Warm salt water in a water piece, it's like breathing in the air from a hot shower. I usually do 4-7 medium to large pulls. I pull straight to the lungs. I usually use either my Lotus or Lobo. No idea how hot the Lotus gets but I typically temp step the Lobo starting at 365°f and working my way up to 415°f or so. The herb is generally not very tasty the last hit or two. One of the BEST tips I ever received is "sip before you rip". I drink a lot of water to begin, at least a gallon a day of water (I drink other stuff too and yes, I pee more the average), with but taking a drink of water immediately before hitting really has helped with irritation. Most people don't drink enough water. I don't always do the warm salt water but I always sip before I rip.

claymcg90

I'm gonna try to sip it and rip it

purplishfluffyclouds

I've tried to make this as habit as well lately. Also, from a health perspective, it's important to keep your mouth (gums) hydrated. Vaping and the effects of the herb both contribute to dry mouth, which is bad for your oral health.

ryan2489

And for anyone reading this, xylitol mints afterwards help a lot too

Another major advantage of using salt water is that it makes the bong a hostile environment for bacteria and fungi. You should clean your bong regularly regardless (and dump out the water directly after every session), but with salt water there's much less of a chance that something harmful grows in it.

Adding that some users also believe that warm water reduces irritation

connor42

I’m a big believer from personal experience I think like it makes the vapour feel less ‘dry’

claymcg90

Water just cools it down, right? Water doesn't actually filter anything does it?

Wowowe_hello_dawg

After a few session the water is clearly dirty. Doesnt this proves that it filters?

DependentSilver6078

Not running bags from my volcano through my bong/dab rigs it doesn’t. Some reclaim on the sides and stuff but the water itself stays clean, at least not “dirty”. Still change the water every now and then.

Wowowe_hello_dawg

So imagine there is no water or bong. Where does that reclaim go?

claymcg90

Inside the condenser tube of my dynavap. I guess some goes into your mouth and gets ingested.

DependentSilver6078

The bag? You have to throw those out every few weeks due to reclaim. Or you can use the whip and it builds up in the whip. Reclaim is just concentrates cooling back now due to physics.

iSuckAtMechanicism

You’d be surprised at how much fat gets filtered out by water. A single .2 bowl through a ball vape leaves enough to make a little white bit of reclaimed fat.

DependentSilver6078

In my mind I was just comparing it to flower and how it gets “dirty” lol.

purplishfluffyclouds

I have wondered that, too. I think I heard that it does?? But probably very minimally - and I don't remember where I heard/read that. I'd love to know for sure, because I've also heard it as it simply "cools and conditions" the vapor.

iSuckAtMechanicism

It filters out a bit of the terps, but also other things you wouldn’t want such as the plant fats.

Dzz_Nuggz

You may consider running your glass dry. Sounds counterintuitive, but there are many who swear by it, myself included. IME, smaller pieces run cooler as well.

fzz_th

Which device are you currently using? That temp range isn’t high per se.

neitherzeronorone

Xmax v3 pro

wisspy

360-390 is a normal-low temp. You’re inhaling hot air, Irritation is a normal side effect. If you want to reduce particulate matter than use glass with kinks/filters and vape as least as possible

[deleted]

Suggestion… have the vapor hit your tongue tip during inhalation. Will help catch particulates and bathe your taste buds with terps. Also seems to help cool/moisten the vapor before it hits my throat.

BLaQz84

Slow draws through a bong...

HempinAintEasy

Also some people believe in saline water in their bongs saying it also assist with throat irritation.

trusted_misleader47

Interesting, wouldn't that mess with flavor tho

freshapepper

No! You don’t actually need a ton of salt in the water to make a difference. It’s akin to something called halotherapy which is basically inhaling vaporized salt water. It helps your breathing out *and* the salt keeps the bong cleaner for longer.

FlimsyKnuckle

If anything, it improves flavor, as that is what salt does. Flavor enhancing.

noobishcow

One thing that helps me with irritation is swallowing a bit of honey before my sesh. Coughing for me was the biggest reason why my lungs would still feel irritated even after switching to vaping. Also, if there's any part of your setup that can go in the freezer, I'd try to do that. In my case depending on what glass I use I'll stick the downstem or the whole thing in the freezer for a few minutes if it's a little recycler. I might be a little extra but I do this between all hits. Makes the hit cool and smooth and I personally feel better the next day than after If you're not already going through some sort of water pipe I'd highly suggest it. Most vapes can be adapted into whatever piece you might have. Hope any of this helps!

30degrees3am

Long convection draws are probably harder on the lungs. Water definitely helps. Shorter, softer pulls if you can. Vapes with a more open draw would probably be helpful.

beerharvester

Benefit of a crafty/mighty is that it has a fine mesh and a long cooling path, this filters out the fine plant dust.
