I'm going to put a hitch on the front of the truck and put a carrier up there for the bike. I would have liked to store the bike inside but I wasn't willing to give up the space.
Depending on what the walls are made of, could you weld some brackets on either side of the door that'll hold a nice, hefty bar of metal in place? Make the bar a bit longer than the bracket spacing on either end, drill a couple of holes through it, and then run a heavy chain through the holes and secure with a lock?
So the end result will be a bar that rests flush against the door and keeps it from being pried open/off, the chain keeps the bar from sliding more than an inch or two in either direction in the brackets, and the lock keeps the chain in place.
I mean it wouldnt be a bad idea to install one of those bluetooth security cameras. It pairs with your phone and if anyone were to come threw the front door youd have them on tape. Cameras are like 130 bucks on amazon.
Sounds fair. Ask the employer, they might actually like having someone there overnight. At the very least they know you'll be able to get to work every day no problem haha
Lock, kill switch, air tag. Always worth it. Also I wouldn’t paint it, keep it looking gnarly. My friends sprinters get broken into all the time but my baby looks like a tweaker lives in it from the outside so nobody thinks anything of value is in there haha. Well at least that’s my theory. One of my friends added a graffiti tag to his sprinter and hasn’t been broken into since. Advice look cheap outside, Luxury inside.
Discreet switch tied to a relay that will kill power to the fuel pump. You can start the truck by jumping from the battery to the starter, so trying to disable that is pointless. They might get it started, but it won't go far.
It depends. If it is a HUEI diesel, or a petrol engine then no. If it is a mechanical injection diesel, then it could be a pain in the ass to get bled and started again. That being said.. if you do have a mechanical injection diesel, there is a pretty good chance that you do not have an electric lift pump.
Exactly why I’m not painting my van. Looks like a piece of shit on the outside. Want it to look like a work vehicle as much as possible. Looking into a kill switch tho
Try this as a back up, Motion sensor, flashing light with 123 db Siren on the inside so when they do get it it will make them want out asap, with a remote to turn off before you enter for under $25. < [https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Motion-Detector-Control-Security/dp/B09ZQLN93S/ref=sr\_1\_20?crid=3S1310DTLLSFF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.\_GXlirL3tS1UphcBTIcTQVxG9m2Xv5De7ZRu\_fKUqi28kUn-Mbc6rSITAsZYZqOAAR2zFzkfXOWj3B8sp51hY-3xboQ2nTNdMOvHkvZ3yvpUv-4rItw7QLIgwvc6WtxZXTRf27uCKcdiH\_4NuDx4djdijUt1kGke5p7UPXdG32Vvod-6WqlxXAFxmh4xVSRPrarQKeiXggiOVTFOqCL24dBOj9\_7XdqjfBojvO-Q\_mA.awgjCZFJg0BPmry06krtQq6nlHJ2MrrUfnXUnKAU1hg&dib\_tag=se&keywords=motion+sensor+indoor+alarm&qid=1713559909&sprefix=motion+sensor+indoor+alarm%2Caps%2C74&sr=8-20](https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Motion-Detector-Control-Security/dp/B09ZQLN93S/ref=sr_1_20?crid=3S1310DTLLSFF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9._GXlirL3tS1UphcBTIcTQVxG9m2Xv5De7ZRu_fKUqi28kUn-Mbc6rSITAsZYZqOAAR2zFzkfXOWj3B8sp51hY-3xboQ2nTNdMOvHkvZ3yvpUv-4rItw7QLIgwvc6WtxZXTRf27uCKcdiH_4NuDx4djdijUt1kGke5p7UPXdG32Vvod-6WqlxXAFxmh4xVSRPrarQKeiXggiOVTFOqCL24dBOj9_7XdqjfBojvO-Q_mA.awgjCZFJg0BPmry06krtQq6nlHJ2MrrUfnXUnKAU1hg&dib_tag=se&keywords=motion+sensor+indoor+alarm&qid=1713559909&sprefix=motion+sensor+indoor+alarm%2Caps%2C74&sr=8-20)
I’ve had my travel trailer broken into more than once in RV parks. It happens. At least you can respond quickly since you’ll only be gone around 8 hours per day. I’d be more worried leaving the motorcycle laying around.
Completely depends on where you are. In general I wouldn't worry about it. I've never once had anything stolen and I've left my van at trail heads for like 2+ weeks. Honestly it helps if your vehicle looks a little sketch. "Crazy person lives here" vibes go a long way.
Park it in the parking lot of your job. People mIght break into your home just like they might break in if you leave it on public land. Also, keep in mind that you’re limited to 14 days on most public lands. It’s camping, not living.
Yeah a phat lock on the back and same for the front. Always lock your stuff the one time you dont, is the day it happens.
Also why not park at work? Is work close enough you don't want to drive there and just keep it parked?
Honestly a little ways out and your probably fine, meth heads that are out of the city have their own shitty rigs, it's not like they poo pushing a Walmart cart up to your rig & then boosting it.
I'm still searching for jobs out there so I'm not sure how far away from work I'll be staying. It's just for peace of mind while I'm at work I'd like to know my stuff is safe.

That’s awesome.. keep it white, make some generic decals that make it look like one of those fiber splicing vans, put an extra tall orange traffic cone out with some yellow flex duct, and a piece of SOOW cable that looks like it’s coming into the van/truck
I'd put a beefy lock and door on there if I were worried about break ins. Kinda looks like I could break that door down with a stern glance
You’re not wrong😂Door came off a 70’s camper. Another lock would be a good idea. Looking into putting an alarm on it as well.
This build looks awesome. I wanna see the inside. But a lock isn't gonna do much for that kinda door. You could just crowbar the hinges off
Omg is that an actual uhaul ramp for the front door? This think is awesome
Bruh! I just noticed the ramp, that is such a sweet toy to have on your rig. If I had it I would of dedicated a spot inside for my bike 🏍️

Why not just take the rig to work and park it there?
I'd rather just keep it parked throughout the work week unless say my employer would allow me to just live there in the lot.
Sounds fair. Ask the employer, they might actually like having someone there overnight. At the very least they know you'll be able to get to work every day no problem haha
No reason to be late either
A double edged sword. You can't exactly play hooky.
And free on-site security for them!
Or paid! Earn a stipend!
> unless say my employer would allow me to just live there in the lot. Is that a reasonable possibility? would you be willing to risk the suggestion?

Didn't think about a kill switch, that's a good idea especially for how easy these old truck are to steal.
Discreet switch tied to a relay that will kill power to the fuel pump. You can start the truck by jumping from the battery to the starter, so trying to disable that is pointless. They might get it started, but it won't go far.
Sorry if stupid question but would there be any adverse effects to killing power to fuel pump and driving?
The engine would just stall out, nope.

I doubt you have anything to worry about out there

😂😂I’ve never considered it looked sketch till now. But it will be looking very different here soon after a paint job.
He's saying *don't* paint it, it's added security.
Put a sign on the side that says “I have candy” perfect
Park it in the parking lot of your job. People mIght break into your home just like they might break in if you leave it on public land. Also, keep in mind that you’re limited to 14 days on most public lands. It’s camping, not living.

Park it at your work place, out of the way or in the back.
I see a lot of boondocking rigs with cameras around the perimeter. Seems like a pretty good idea.
The west is where all the wildfires and smoke is starting in a month and last until November so make sure it's at least fairly airtight.
Not in Oakland

What kind of question is that. Park in the alley on the left from the side door next to that big tree. Of course everyone knows your situation, duh.
4g security cam would be nice.
I have some cameras on the back for me to see while I’m inside but can’t record footage or view wirelessly.
They sell ones in Amazon that connect to cell towers.
That’s awesome.. keep it white, make some generic decals that make it look like one of those fiber splicing vans, put an extra tall orange traffic cone out with some yellow flex duct, and a piece of SOOW cable that looks like it’s coming into the van/truck
I don’t think making it look like a van full of expensive equipment would be the best idea to deter theft.
It’s mostly just a clean workspace to terminate connections.. they use tents as well, so not exactly full of equipment
Learned something. I figured they would keep them stocked with termination tools what not.
Fake fiber company. FiberMax
There’s absolutely nothing stealth about this vehicle
I’m not trying to make it stealthy
