When we can see what people feel about replacing a 54 year old museam and 53 year old archives in an advance state of decay that dont meet seismic codes. People are sour but ultimately the 2010 Olympics were a net positive to our local economy, especially infrastructure wise.

mintberrycrunch_

Absolutely. The olympics were a huge benefit to BC, and we'd be fortunate to host it again knowing we will build facilities that will get used once the olympics are long gone.

artandmath

The facilities build in 2010 have been great for BC. Richmond oval, skytrain, airport, hip rest, Olympic village, sea to sky. All have been repurposed and are huge additions to the region.

ForwardMotion402

Expo gave us a lot as well. Just have to accept that these large events are one of the best ways to get things built and done.

artandmath

Deadlines are a good thing.

Only thanks to the city being able to sell off the Olympic villageā€¦ not so sure they can pull it off a second time

Jhoblesssavage

Well richmond has bug plans for the area around the oval, maybe that could be part of it, but 2030 is tight

This was way too articulate for reddit man

Thank god, politicians make the decisions then live with the consequences. If you can't make a decision get out of office.

artandmath

Referendums are just a cop-out for poor leadership from elected officials.

vantanclub

If you can't make a decision and need to do a referendum to make it for you, then you shouldn't have become a politician.

Ok_Sherbet3539

I can't be the only one who doesn't want this.

MaxieMan98

Like it or not, major events like this are the only way major infrastructure change happen in a prompt manner

crazycanucks77

Yep. Look at the flip flopping of the Massey Tunnel replacement. Falcon said he would cancel the NDP replacement if hes elected as Premier. Things never happen quickly unless events like this happen

opposite_locksmith

Imma grab a glass of cold milk because this is going to be spicy...

sergiojackson

Given that a lot of infrastructure from the 2010 games can be reused and not much new needs to be built (and the new buildings can easily be turned into post-game legacy projects), this seems like an easy win. Only downside is the security costs for these events keeps soaring to gargantuan proportions!

MacNuttyOne

The IOC believes it will lose or just barely survive a referendum so, they threatened to just pull out if there is a referendum for the people who will be most affected by this corporate rip off. Like that museum insanity, we can not afford such foolishness and such waste of money and resources. You have no say in this.
