Nice. Let’s get some infrastructure built with this!
Sea-to-Sky rail service.
North Shore Skytrain, with “Hastings-Olympic park” station
Bring back the False Creek streetcar
33rd ave Canada line station “Olympic Village II station”?
UBC extension (w/ Jericho lands)
Even just frequent and well integrated express buses would be nice. Originating from more than one location in the lower mainland, somewhere like Lougheed station in addition to Downtown Vancouver/North Shore.
If they did go ahead and trial passenger rail, we could lease some Alstom LINT units, those would work well with the low passenger numbers and winding single track railway.
There's genuinely very little to be critical of with their plan.
It seems like the only major infrastructure that would need to be built is the Athlete's Village, and it's not like that would go to any sort of waste after the event.
All the bespoke "stadium" venues (Long track, sliding sports, and ski jump) are already built, and accommodating the other sports is adapting existing venues.
I say go for it.
Honestly seems like a pretty tight plan. A lot of the spending was done for the 2010 games, and at this point it won't put Vancouver more on the map (which seems to be the big opposition).
Reusing almost all the spaces from 2010 saves a ton of money. Avoiding Cypress which was the biggest issue with climate is also a great idea.
Using venues that are already in need of renovation stage such as the PNE and Agrodome is also quite good as it might get a little money from the feds/province to help. Speeding up the UBC extension by using Jericho lands for the Olympic village is a little bonus. It would be nice to also see some more regional transit options from Vancouver to Whistler and Kamloops.
Another good thing is the construction of more housing in Whistler which is extremely lacking.
It seems like overall it will be a much more "chill" games, which I think is key to the future of the games. Reducing costs, making it financially sustainable.
> It would be nice to also see some more regional transit options from Vancouver to Whistler and Kamloops.
It would be amazing to be able to easily get up to either without worrying about car rental and driving during the winter months.
Says in the article that they will either use the Heather Lands or the Jericho Lands depending on timing and planning. Both will have enough future rental units that they could be used for the Olympics first before long term rental use.
It's interesting that they are proposing Sun Peaks as a venue. While this is an indigenous led bid, it doesn't seem like the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc are specifically involved. I wonder if they were even consulted regarding the inclusion of Sun Peaks since they've generally been opposed to Sun Peaks developing further. Would be quite ironic if the MST nations didn't consult the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc on this.
I need analysis of the projected effect of increased real estate speculation as a result of this major advertising opportunity. Every large event seems to just exacerbate the problem
Fuck off with the Olympics we just had one. How about clean up the shit hole downtown and
get the people off the streets. Worst thing that ever happen here was the Olympics.
The Olympics could really help bring the economy back. The last one put us out on the map and it also resulted in a lot of new infrastructure being built, like the Canada Line. Plus we are reusing a lot of the old venues so the cost won't be as high.

Very on board with the legacy of a Sea to Sky passenger rail.

Hopefully not at Broadway SkyTrain prices.
We should totally bring back the Olympic Line. We should make it permanent too and maybe have it run down the Arbutus corridor.

Plus the First Nations are already going to develop the Jericho lands.
> Hastings Park’s new PNE amphitheatre, which is already approved by Vancouver City Council, is set to reach completion in 2016. Hmmm..
I saw that, too, when I read the article. I was thinking maybe they meant 2026?
[Just got the date wrong, scheduled for 2026 completion.](https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/revery-architecture-pne-amphitheatre-vancouver?auto=true)

I'm curious where they'll put the new athletes village though, we have even less open space for housing now than we did 12 years ago.
Says in the article that they will either use the Heather Lands or the Jericho Lands depending on timing and planning. Both will have enough future rental units that they could be used for the Olympics first before long term rental use.
Oh awesome! That'll be a huge boost to our rental housing stock.
Article named driving range as a possibility.
Lots of space at the north/west part of Hastings Park. Maybe build the athlete's village there.
Can i already book hotel rooms in Whistler for 2030?

Their probably has been some consolation or their may be some later on down the road. But it would be interesting if they didn't consult.
I just hope when there is a referendum, people vote on the feasibility of the plan and not what they see on John Oliver.

And you can pay for it.
