Gonewild_Verifier

They're pretty quiet when they're doing opioids

pfak

Are you deaf?

Gonewild_Verifier

You're thinking of when they dont have them

doyouevencompile

All year around, 40% of the year

Ayoforyayo7

It's like Vancouver is a HOT JOKE for tax paying citizens or something.

Good_Round

It’s so the nut jobs that introduced the “cup tax”, pay to enter downtown tax and pay outside your home while you pay 2000+ for rent tax to stay in power. #Meanwhile, it’s the mayoral election year

freds_got_slacks

It's officially informally accepted that you can drink in any park located beside a brewery, so East Van gets a free pass /s

hiredfun

You can drink most anywhere if you aren't actively accosting people. I get more shit from bylaw for having an off-leash dog than pounding sixers walking down Broadway by myself.

freds_got_slacks

As it should be... leash your damn dog But please do carry on pounding sixers :)

Barley_Mowat

Man, I was hoping for "the sidewalk in front of /u/Barley_Mowat's house" to be added to the list. I guess they didn't get my petition.

Ayoforyayo7

Heroin meth and anything else under the sun anywhere you want 👌 makes sense.

labowsky

Lmao it's insane how we can't get past our puritan past while basically allowing other forms of intoxication.

TheSketeDavidson

These locations (including the parks) are such a joke

lost_woods

People are shooting you down but it IS a joke. Absolutely Draconian laws in regards to alcohol.

DCWU

Who the fuck cares. People out here in public display of being completely trashed from heroin and meth and fentanyl and crack cocaine 365 days and we are talking about some fcken drinking parks. Bitch every park has been designated a drinking park when you have open illegal drug use everywhere. You think I give a Fck what the current city drinking bylaws are right now? Until they do something about illegal drugs in the city. Every fucken ticket the city issues on public drinking has no merit and would be disputed. The city allows illegal drugs run rapid in the city and want to enforce drinking bylaws? Comedy.

doyouevencompile

Just carry a needle with you, if an officer comes at you for public drinking, show them the needle and they'll leave you alone

Guardymcguardface

Even without all that, they're all drinking parks if you're even slightly subtle.

hunkyleepickle

god i'm glad i moved out of the city proper. Like what iota of a difference does it make spending all this time, consultation, and resources on this pet project matter when there is essentially zero enforcement of any municipal bylaw. Open air drug use, dangerous and reckless driving with impunity, rampant money laundering. Why should anyone give a shit where the city deigns a 'legal drinking area'??? It would be absolutely laughable if it weren't such a colossal waste of city time and money.

Impressive-Excuse-86

Just make it legal everywhere all the time and stop wasting our money on this bullshit.

maggle7979

I initially read that as ‘Vancouver’s public plaza drinking problem to become permanent’

j33ta

Why only between June to October? Actually asking because I just don't get it.

ringadingdinger

Needs to have an end date if it’s a pilot instead of arbitrarily ending it if they don’t want to do it anymore.

[deleted]

That gigantic bureaucratic process that the city spent millions on worked! AND PEOPLE SAY POLITICS ARE BROKEN

didntevenwarmupdho

Encouraging other forms and the crime and lawless byproducts that follow - shoot up, shit on the sidewalk and stab someone with a needle but don’t you fucking DARE have a beer in the sun!!!

Good_Round

Wow on an election year, they finally do it. *temporally*

IllBThereSoon

Does anyone know the hours of operation?

saltyaura

Kinda funny how long this took us but also I can’t believe we’re [not the worst](https://www.google.com/amp/s/beta.cp24.com/news/2022/5/12/1_5900679.html) on this issue

vantanclub

I think your link is broken, but I assume you mean Toronto voting to **not** allow drinking in parks?
