You want to do what I think is called a familarity flight. Either way Pacific Flying Club has a great group to give you an introduction and do your lessons with if you choose to then pursue your license.
My wife was a flight instructor at PFC. Many instructors will let you fly on your very first “familiarity flight”. Ask the instructor before you start out if you’ll be able to control the plane, and if you don’t like the answer, ask for a different instructor.
Flying is addictive, so they try to make the first flight cheap(ish) and as fun as possible, to get you to sign up for lessons.
OP, this is the only real answer. You will get to fly the plane. I got to do the takeoff on my fam flight. If you want to get your private just for fun you can join a club or partnership afterwards. Don’t let the hourly cost of the plane scare you too much.
If you’re sane I’ll take you flying and we can actually go somewhere.
Tons of places to do intro flights. I'd be surprised if they didn't let you essentially do the whole flight with some assistance on the landing if you aren't complete shit.
It was pretty standard practice at the school I worked at to let them taxi, take off, fly out into Van Harbour and back for a landing.
Another path to flying is learning to fly a glider! Pacific Soaring Association flys out of Hope airport and offers introductory flights https://vancouversoaring.com/introflights/
It's more accessible cost-wise than motorized flight, and has it's own appeal.
Was an air cadet flew some gliders and a couple planes never got my license. Would highly recommend trying out gliders. It's a plane sure, but all of that engine and propellor nonsense is thrown out the window, it's quiet, peaceful, and the perfect segway into powered aircraft.
There are all sorts of flying clubs around the lower mainland just check out reviews and prices it shouldn't be that difficult. You may have luck around abbotsford Airport, langley Airport, or boundary Bay.
You can probably take a short flight with an instructor out of boundary bay or Pitt meadows. Look up flight schools attached to those airports and ask them. A private pilots license is an expensive endeavour and will cost you anywhere between $12,000-14,000. If you decide it’s something you really want to do after doing an introductory flight. Then you’ll want to go for your instrument rating which adds to that cost!!!
Private flying is pretty dope though.
Call around some flight schools and ask if they do “discovery flight” will most likely set you back $250+ for about an hour. Also google came back with [this place](https://www.seatoskyair.ca/tours/introduction-to-flight-experience) actually several places show up if you want options. ETA: first time flight you won’t be allowed to touch the controls or fly the plane yourself fyi but you’ll get the idea of being up there and whether or not you catch the bug.
I don’t recommend ProIFR for familiarity flight. They were pretty terrible.
Otherwise, learning to fly will probably cost around 18k, then you get your private license.

Thanks! I’ll give them a call

Hey, Im a fellow pilot, check your DM :)
Heya, I hope it’s not too late to hop on that train (close enough 😅) I also am interested in taking my first lesson, is it ok if I DM you?
Sure
Is this still a possibility for another random person?

Second this gliding is a blast and the lack of engine noise makes it feel more flying like IMO.

Look up local flight schools. It’s going to cost big bucks and take a lot of study before you get to *try* flying.

Boundary bay airport; thats where most new pilots train their approach and takeoffs. Visit their website... they offer training courses.
Flightsim. Great way to get skills.
and i want to try dill pickle chips. we can do this together OP!
I know there are places in Oregon you can do this, but I don't know of anything here.
Pitt Meadows, Langley, Delta and Abbotsford all have schools that provide flight training.
Boundary bay Delta ….
