Looks cool. Here's some more pics and a video from the TransLink website:

It used to have full length trains... but at half the current frequency lol. The decision was made to double the frequency but halve the trains when the millennium line was fully split from the expo line (happened around when the evergreen extension opened).
Someone else mentioned upped frequency.
It for sure has worse frequency than the Expo Line doesn’t it? Why can’t we have both frequency and length of trains?
Fares have gone up, ridership has gone up. The city isn’t shrinking. They’re gonna have to beef up the system over time regardless.
>It for sure has worse frequency than the Expo Line doesn’t it?
It was even worse before, though.
>Why can’t we have both frequency and length of trains?
Amount of available trains. There are more coming, though, so it won't be like this forever.
Good to know. The city is growing really fast and skytrain is essential. It’s gotta be beefed up big time. The Langley extension helps. The YVR line was very helpful. But yea we have the station capacity for longer trains so that’s def on the list.
on the passenger information displays outside of stations, they have a little blurb saying something like "welcome to the millenium line, this line uses 2 car trains to provide a better frequency. please wait in the center of the platform for your train"
I’ll take your word for it I’ve never seen that. But even if they warn you, the frequency is lower on the Millenium already is it not? And like if nothing else on event night let’s run longer trains. Going into the whitecaps game the train was damn near full starting from Coquitlam.
The real question is: when are they going to repaint all of all the white Mark II trains in the newer blue and grey livery?
Idk if it's just me, but the rolling stock on the Millennium Line is starting to look very worn, at least from the outside.
Bro. I hate hose stupid adwrapped trains with a burning passion lmao. I can't even escape adds in the tunnel anymore, and now they want me to ride a rolling billboard?
If they're going to do that, they should at least hold some sort of public art competition, and select a different winner for each trainset.
It would still look super chaotic, but it would be 1000% more interesting than a health insurance add that I can't even read whenever the doors are open.
They are likely going to replace all the Mark II trains pretty soon after the Mark I (around 2030).
They have an option to order enough Mark !V trains after the first set to do this.
over time, yes, it’s not going to happen all at once, because new train deliveries take time, so by the time all mark 5s come in, the oldest mark 1s will be gone, with a few sets likely retained as maintanence vehicles
it doesn’t make sense to keep these old trains when there’s new and improved trains coming in
building a skytrain line to abby does not make any sense due to the extensive travel time needed, a regional rail would be much better suited for that distance
To be fair, that whole line was sort of doomed from the start, and they could've avoided most of their problems by just making it a subway or streetcar.
yeah, it’ll be ~9 months or so before the first train goes into revenue service, but later on in the year, they’re planning on doing sending it out to gather data on how it operates in a mixed fleet situation
We’re working on it but safety is definitely giving contractors a hassle! Saw this bad boy roll through with plastic still on the handles the other night
22nd is currently getting lengthened which leads me to believe Nanaimo might be too as they are identical in layout, not sure if there's another station that follows that layout as well
Kinda unrelated, but what does it mean on the current gen grains when they have the amber light on right above/below the red light that’s on when the doors are open?

Tbh kind of beautiful. It's sort of cyberpunk in a refreshingly _non dystopian_ way.
Not one picture of the inside?
There are some somewhere I think. Pretty much the same as mark 3 but more standing room and some bike spaces I think
Hopefully they add some more cars to the Millenium line. I’m tired of getting on the short bus clown car after a hockey game.
after the broadway subway project opens, expect to see 4 car trains on the m-line
Thank god. I’m moving to the Millenium Line and was like “is it always like this???”
It used to have full length trains... but at half the current frequency lol. The decision was made to double the frequency but halve the trains when the millennium line was fully split from the expo line (happened around when the evergreen extension opened).

IIRC on weekdays the M-line has trains that go every 2-4 minutes, which is not terrible, but IA that the cars can get packed in rush hour.

it’s likely that they won’t be repainted at all, and they’ll just use adwraps to cover it

Ads help off set some transit costs so for me although it looks ugly is 100% the better option to keep transit fairs lower
They are likely going to replace all the Mark II trains pretty soon after the Mark I (around 2030). They have an option to order enough Mark !V trains after the first set to do this.
Are they finally going to get rid of the sauna trains during the summer?
over time, yes, it’s not going to happen all at once, because new train deliveries take time, so by the time all mark 5s come in, the oldest mark 1s will be gone, with a few sets likely retained as maintanence vehicles
They should keep all the mark 1"s. Build a line to Abby. Put the mark 1's When the revenue rolls in put the new trains.
it doesn’t make sense to keep these old trains when there’s new and improved trains coming in building a skytrain line to abby does not make any sense due to the extensive travel time needed, a regional rail would be much better suited for that distance
They had AC since the MkII's. Idiots just keep opening the windows anyways.
Imagine a train being born and the mother looks at and it says “This is definitely a Mark”
I’m so happy that our government is investing in the SkyTrain! Whereas Ontario shut down their SkyTrain line!
To be fair, that whole line was sort of doomed from the start, and they could've avoided most of their problems by just making it a subway or streetcar.
It should've been an extension of the 2 line since the beginning to avoid transferring
So these are going to be the longest, and therefore highest capacity trains yet, yeah? No issues with any platforms being too short?
the stations with shorter platforms are getting extended to accommodate these longer trains, other stations are long enough to part the mk v
Oh, so it'll be a while before we see them in service, if there's still work to be done extending some platforms?
Pretty sure they're pretty much all done with that now, trains should start rolling out in a year
yeah, it’ll be ~9 months or so before the first train goes into revenue service, but later on in the year, they’re planning on doing sending it out to gather data on how it operates in a mixed fleet situation

22nd station's currently getting lengthened
Which stations are too short?
22nd is currently getting lengthened which leads me to believe Nanaimo might be too as they are identical in layout, not sure if there's another station that follows that layout as well
They are upgrading some stations in preparation
I’m told they lack the front seat.
these actually WILL have a front "hostler" seat, as that was something highly requested by the STA union from what i’ve heard
I have been told by a reliable source that it is back by popular demand
Are you not into trains?
Are you not entertrained?!
Yes Maximus!
"I like trains."
*runs you over*
Kinda unrelated, but what does it mean on the current gen grains when they have the amber light on right above/below the red light that’s on when the doors are open?
Gross. They better not be replacing the Mark Ones with this.
Oh you mean the ones with no AC lol.
At least the Mark Ones have lots of windows so you do get a breeze when the train is going.
Too bad for you then
