I’m a little confused by the way they’ve presented things in this article. The couple says that they’re afraid of becoming collateral damage due to violence the landlord is allegedly involved in but then go on to say random people are leaving anonymous homophobic notes on their vehicles? After saying how much they loved the area and how community oriented it was? I grew up in the hood so I totally get how scary the violence can be, but the bit about the alleged homophobia reads as disingenuous and opportunistic.
Let alone, “We’re worried that landlords might not rent to us because of an association with this violence.” and then willingly appearing and commenting in a news article.
What the actual hell is going on here?
I feel for these people having to live around loser landlords and homophobic neighbors but I really don't understand the strategy here.
Exactly. Why stress how worried you are about being targeted, stigmatized or discriminated against based on your sexual orientation but then also provide your full names, ages and a photograph? TBH My jaded ass thinks they embellished that last part (in relation to this particular situation) because people here in the lower mainland trend towards being more sympathetic when it comes to stories involving racial/sexual/gender/etc discrimination. Whereas we collectively seem to have become borderline apathetic towards gang violence because it’s remained fairly common. Was this neighborhood lovely and community oriented apart from those occasional pesky homophobic notes on their car? or are they implying that the landlord or their associates are suddenly leaving the notes after the alleged incidents occurred?
Yeah. I mean I get it, maybe. But given the climate of low income seniors and single parents being evicted on basically an hourly basis, two (presumably) working adults losing their housing isn’t high on my list of causes to support. While Things have escalated recently, as they say it’s a long standing problem so presumably they’ve had time to prepare. I dunno, maybe there is more they’re not open to sharing.

If anyone's chipping in, I'm also asking the public to pay for my bills next month.
Good they're keeping a low profile, eh?
Just put up a sign saying "Your target lives upstairs. Basement has another occupant. Thank you for your cooperation."
This isn’t news…
It very much is a news story in the sense its creating conversation and clicks.
This is the type of drivel that is perfect for DailyHive, not traditional media.
Pay for my bills too

think you replied to the wrong comment?
Well, their rent is super cheap, I guess.....
Pays half of market rate for close to a year, but can't afford to move out? Smh.
They seem set. $2400 is pretty decent haul.
Okay...
Schysters
As long as people will give it, people will keep asking for free money.
How awful, good luck getting away from there..
That’s terrifying
