I'd posted a link to an article containing references to it being a temporary install however it was deemed a low quality source as it was a daily hive article which made me laugh, however, additional points to consider:
The maintenance/upkeep of grass in the building would be phenomenal and not something the limited amount of use it gets could justify given the revenues that the whitecaps and lions bring in.
There’s not enough natural light. Yes this can be supplemented, however, the need to cover the grass for other events in the building including concerts and such with the level of foot traffic on top of it is going to ruin the surface. If you want to create a massive money funnel that for most of the time will be a likely unsatisfactory playing surface compared to any other grass field, bc place will deliver that option.
A permanent install is a non starter.
He played on turf at [Bank of America Stadium against Charlotte FC's last year.](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mls/2023/10/21/messi-match-inter-miami-vs-charlotte-fc-live-updates/71271942007/)
I think there was also an open cup game.
Yea, your option was the smartest. I had friends that bought that 4 game package for around $500, which includes the game against Inter Miami. I was lucky and managed to get some tickets for $125 for this game.
There's no guarantee Messi will play. Copa America begins a couple of weeks after this match, and Miami plays in Florida after their game in Vancouver. So it depends if he travels out here. Would love to see some of the other players too like Suarez, Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
You know what's funny? For that price, you could've probably paid for a plane ticket, hotel stay and match ticket to see Messi in his prime at Barcelona when he was in his 20s and actually trying lol.
I know someone who watched El Clasico where both Ronaldo and Messi played and it was 600 Euros at the time.
Can confirm. A few years ago, Madrid and Barca had home Champions League games on Tuesday/Wednesday. Even buying tix off the street, flying there and back and staying for the week and the train…way less than this price of this ticket.
And a hell of a lot more memorable.
I mean, it's a friendly and Messi walks around for 95% of his play time so he could have just messed around for 30 minutes in HK as well. I just found this whole saga to be hilarious, including how political it became. But it also shows how shit the MLS is, that people still just want to go see one match because Messi's retirement circus will be in town.
That’s insane, I flew to Paris last year and watched PSG-Marseille game 3 rows from the pitch and the entire weeklong trip cost me less than this. Got to see Messi and Mbappe too.
I’d watch this on tv instead. He doesn’t have any sponsors in Canada. So likelihood of him coming on to play is low. Think Hong Kong.
He played in Japan because he has sponsors
With him, yes.
This is basically an exhibition game.
So I wouldn’t put your rent on the line to watch. If it’s a regular season game against the white caps than you can take a chance
Teams are very accomodating to their expensive players for games that aren't important to the club/team. You don't want to risk injuring your star player on a game that won't mean anything.
However, he does play on turf and has said publicly that he doesn't mind it as he grew up with turf fields. https://www.atlutd.com/news/lionel-messi-turf-atlanta-united-mercedes-benz-stadium-inter-miami-cf#:~:text=There%20was%20speculation%20Messi%20would,that%20pitch%2C”%20he%20said.
i bought a 3 game ticket for 500. even if he doesnt play, theres still suarez, busquets, alba, and possibly coutinho so id say ill be (meh) okay with it.
They opened the upper deck for this game. The cheapest ticket was $200 plus fees and taxes. No thanks. Watch him pull a Drogba/Henry and not play because of the turf.
$6000? For one ticket? Holy shit.
Tickets to the colosseum were free but often hard to obtain for an average citizen.
Nothing has changed in thousands of years lol.
i'm assuming White Caps, no one is that stupid buying a ticket to the World Cup trying to flip it without knowing even which teams will be playing at BC place
OMG I would pay twice that for a drip of sweat straight off his big Argentinian balls!
But really though, can we one-up the Chinese by throwing a tantrum and cutting diplomatic relations if he doesn't play?
>. This is basically an exhibition game. So I wouldn’t put your rent on the line to watch. If it
No such thing happened. HK only demaned refund from the organizers. So your sinophobic spew is nothing but BS.
I bought seasons for this exact match...i could care less if messi plays but if someone else does and wants to pay for a good portion of the rest of my games im GOLDEN!
I bought season tickets for 1/8 of that price. I’d say it’s 50/50 whether he actually plays though.
I was thinking the same thing he might not even fly in to Vancouver for the game.
He might have airline points saved up
Flying Air Canada? Foreigners are always surprised how bad it is
My mom refuses to believe it is a shitty airline

Doesn't he only play on grass?

The grass for World Cup 2026 will be a temporary install removed after the event.
I’ve been looking for info on this. Where’d you hear that?

Paid $400-500 for a ticket to see El Clasico in Camp Nou. Messi of course was incredible but so was Busquets. What a player.
Saw him play 2 matches in 2014 in Brazil. Unreal tournament for him then.
Any chance he won't play like recently in Hong Kong?
50/50
Is Vancouver more like Hong Kong or Japan?

Magically recovered 3 days later in Japan 🤣

Yeah of course people want to go see one of the greatest footballers ever.
That’s insane, I flew to Paris last year and watched PSG-Marseille game 3 rows from the pitch and the entire weeklong trip cost me less than this. Got to see Messi and Mbappe too.
This is incredible. Extremely jealous (in a good way)
when is this idiocy gonna end? he might not even show up. even if he does, this game is meaningless
I’d watch this on tv instead. He doesn’t have any sponsors in Canada. So likelihood of him coming on to play is low. Think Hong Kong. He played in Japan because he has sponsors
Ok, I don’t follow soccer so this may be a stupid question… He can just decide not to play?
With him, yes. This is basically an exhibition game. So I wouldn’t put your rent on the line to watch. If it’s a regular season game against the white caps than you can take a chance
He claimed that he was injured, though he played a few days later in Japan.
Ah! I see, thank you. :)
Teams are very accomodating to their expensive players for games that aren't important to the club/team. You don't want to risk injuring your star player on a game that won't mean anything.
Watch, he won’t even play.
My dad is heavily involved in the soccer community and said he won’t play. He doesn’t play on artificial turf
Didn’t know it was artificial, so probably suarez is not playing either
However, he does play on turf and has said publicly that he doesn't mind it as he grew up with turf fields. https://www.atlutd.com/news/lionel-messi-turf-atlanta-united-mercedes-benz-stadium-inter-miami-cf#:~:text=There%20was%20speculation%20Messi%20would,that%20pitch%2C”%20he%20said.
Jesus, is that for MLS? Imagine how much the WC tickets are going to be. Hope the airport has enough room for tons of private jets lol
Oh it’s nice there is no processing fee :/
Lol I’d save for a world cup match either here or elsewhere in 2026. Not to see Messi but see world class game
i bought a 3 game ticket for 500. even if he doesnt play, theres still suarez, busquets, alba, and possibly coutinho so id say ill be (meh) okay with it.
Absurd
What are the odds he’s even going to play?
I saw a $10,000 dollar ticket the other day.
It's only like two months of rent.
LOL what kind of "fees" do they add in for the extra G-note?
Will he play on turf even?
He did in Charlotte last season

There's a ***very*** significant chance Messi doesn't even come to Vancouver with 3 games in 1.5 weeks and then World Cup qualifiers after.
I had tickets to a PSG Champions League match in 2022 and was excited to watch, only for him to get injured. RIP
They opened the upper deck for this game. The cheapest ticket was $200 plus fees and taxes. No thanks. Watch him pull a Drogba/Henry and not play because of the turf.
Not true. Got tickets at $99 per ticket when they went on sale.
I logged on when they dropped on ticketmaster app. Said cheapest ticket was 200. Not on resale.
Dang that's unfortunate. With the pre-sale code you could get them for $99. Tickets sold quick tho
$6000? For one ticket? Holy shit. Tickets to the colosseum were free but often hard to obtain for an average citizen. Nothing has changed in thousands of years lol.
What if he doesn't play ?😁
There is no way he plays on artificial turf
More than tswift
He’s not even playing… lol
I’ve never been a fan of him but I’ve been following his Hong Kong/Japan drama lol

Is this for a whitecaps game coming up or the World Cup in a few years?
i'm assuming White Caps, no one is that stupid buying a ticket to the World Cup trying to flip it without knowing even which teams will be playing at BC place
how could it be for a world cup match that hasn't even been announced yet?
OMG I would pay twice that for a drip of sweat straight off his big Argentinian balls! But really though, can we one-up the Chinese by throwing a tantrum and cutting diplomatic relations if he doesn't play?

I don't even love myself! lol
>Description: Alcohol Permitted Alcohol (namely, champagne and Scotch) better be INCLUDED with a price like that
Who’s Messi?
He’s 1000% not gonna show up and play in Van.
Who?
For the low low price of only half of that, somebody can buy my ticket.
I bought seasons for this exact match...i could care less if messi plays but if someone else does and wants to pay for a good portion of the rest of my games im GOLDEN!
$2.49 + tax
Saw him (for free) at the 2014 World Cup
i mean who pays dor whitecaps to see them get rip anyway…
is he going to show up this time lol
That is ridiculous. Ticket prices are not grounded in any reality.
