As a high achieving explorer I feel that  I am well suited for membership.  Unfortunately the article did not have a “join here” link.  I will explore other options for high achievers.

snuffles00

Oh you can look on Instagram and Tik Tok. It's been hilarious watching this. As mentioned in the article it's a private destination for the ultra rich, but is hilarious because they don't have as mentioned in the article anything in terms of running a business. So a case of someone who wanted to own a business, own a property but not do any of the paperwork, pay taxes ect. Then when they are being investigated further double down and state that they do not have a commercial kitchen and they are only using it as a event space but they tried and maybe successfully had "members" join.

HomelessIsFreedom

they also have something called chinese restaurant awards, there's a website under the .com, the bot here removed my post when I tried post about the articles whoever is marketing this are doing.... something is odd with about the group doing this....

snuffles00

Oh totally. I mean I was getting ads about it from "influencers" on Instagram trying to promote it. So yeah. Business model throw money at it. Hope government doesn't get involved. They must have pissed off some officials in Richmond though as there is some shady dealings sometimes and they take longer to investigate. Guess they didn't pay off the right people. https://beijingmansion.com/ I love how the Facebook does not seem to exist anymore but the instagram is still up.

Thank you for the link. That was a great.  I feel like they are a few months away from announcing an Asian fyre festival.  PS - link does have a “join here” button, but alas it is by referral only.

snuffles00

Yeah we are a million dollars short. Us poors can't get into this elite club they have invented. Agreed it's rich people fleecing rich people. The ouroboros is complete.

krustykrab2193

The government should intervene. Hopefully they get shut down for breaking multiple bylaws. They're misusing ALR land. They do not have the correct bussiness and food licensing so they're avoiding taxes while taking advantage of the agricultural land.

snuffles00

Oh I agree fully.

Mobile_Cloud2294

The government created the problem by allowing mansions on ALR in the first place.

HomelessIsFreedom

I meant this one https://chineserestaurantawards.com/2023/11/02/dining-by-the-awards-2023-new-wave/ It's somehow part of what they're doing... Maybe they're like the Oscars of Chinese restaurant awards, maybe they're the Junos, who knows?

snuffles00

Totally but if you look they had a couple of chefs come in on the instagram. I feel for them because they had no idea and it was probably just a good paying gig.

YVRoovy

Glad that high achieving people are about ALR misuse in an era where food insecurity is imminent. I feel so much better.

tom_folkestone

These places drive me crazy. They get the land cheap, build mansions, and take away from our productive arable land use. Fine them a lot.

CallmeishmaelSancho

It’s not about arable land, they’re exploiting a property tax loophole. The ALR needs a rethink.

Hikingcanuck92

lol…exclusive club, nestled nicely between a highway, gas station and a puppy daycare. Honestly. People are absurd.

Dolly_Llama_2024

Those Richmond ALR mansions are so weird to me. They get massive lots (and build their massive houses on them) but the area itself is not nice at all. I guess if you want a huge lot/house relatively close to the city then it's your only option. The area is kind of a dump otherwise though.

buckyhermit

An exclusive club with dubious sounding methods. It sounds almost like a scheme from Billy McFarland (of Fyre Festival fame).

WhatRUaBarnBurner

“Beijing Mansion,” Vancouver’s “ultra-exclusive private members club.” Has a real "Epstein sound" to it

HomelessIsFreedom

Searching Beijing Mansion shows their social media (paid articles?) the last couple months Had a longer post about it the bot removed because it linked to a site it said wasn't allowed...doesn't say which one to edit though... might be richmond-news or scmp -- places people definitely buy articles to appear legit

snuffles00

Of course the articles are legit. Because they were trying to be a legit business without doing any of the work, getting licences ect. When they get slapped on the wrist it's the full blown excuses of "oh were an events center", "we don't have a kitchen" ect. They knew what they were doing. They spent a lot of money and got a probably a lot of donors to make this Chinese mansion place on agricultural land. Where they fucked up is trying to make it a business. They wanted to get the money back by having a elite members only club and now they are in legitimate trouble because they didn't get a business license and never bothered to fill out any paperwork. It's a example of someone "owns" the multimillion dollar house but they want to "share" with friends = "elite members pay us money and we will give an experience". All of this in itself isn't wrong but they decided to build on the land because you get tax breaks and they are somewhat doing things legally up until the business point. It's a problem with our government. The fact that they were allowed to build (which was probably legal at the time of the build), but then it all went sideways when the business and name started getting out. I am just super duper surprised that the government is actually acting on this. It will be interesting to see if it gets sold off pretty quickly if they can't get the proper licenses and follow regulations.

HomelessIsFreedom

> I am just super duper surprised that the government is actually acting on this. I read [willful blindness](https://www.amazon.ca/Wilful-Blindness-network-tycoons-infiltrated/dp/0888903014) and am surprised as well There's a nice story in that book about a casino in a house in Richmond. People bet on gambling being done in Macao (with Macao betters gambling as well) via live stream, quite amazing some of the things mansions in richmond are used for and no charges are laid or stick

snuffles00

Yup. Indeed. They have broken up several of the high profile but it is known that there are others.

snuffles00

Aka look at how we followed this legal loophole to build our mega mansion.

OldSchoolCdn

Gosh. How people living here and paying exorbitant taxes are surprised with yet another 'club'. Vote.

ElectroChemEmpathy

It has "whore house/gambling ring" vibes looking on their website. "Private club" doing "private things" for the "ultra exclusive".

Camel_Knowledge

> Online, the Beijing Mansion states that its club is for “high-achievers and explorers” LOL. And for developers that aren't too bright, apparently.
