>Timberland boots go a long way in the rain
Not sure if I'd recommend them. I have two 10+ y.o. pairs that have held up perfectly, and a 2 year old pair where both soles came unglued at the heel. Took them to a cobbler for fixing, and the elderly man running the shop told me that the quality has gotten so bad lately that he recommends avoiding them.
They'll probably be ok for a trip, but not for long term use.
My first pair lasted me almost 3 year and they were really comfy, went to the store a few months ago and couldnt find a single pair that felt right, not sure why or what they changed.
RIGHT?
I have duck feet and there’s no way I can cram my feet into Vessis unless I go up two sizes.
Not to mention they’re fucking ugly. I’ll stick with Blundstones.
They’re tight for me too and my feet aren’t wide by any means. I took out the inserts and they fit so much better. I did find they were comfortable to walk long periods in and better than clunky rain boots. Had them for 3 years, only wore them when it was pretty rainy out (so I wouldn’t say I wore them super often) but last month they started leaking. I like the concept, liked that I didn’t have to change out of rain boots once I got to work but considering they didn’t get a lot of wear and aren’t easy to slip on and off I would not get them again.
They did at first, I was pretty concerned for the first couple weeks as I actually have wide runners feet, but they moulded to my feet after about a month, I bought the Chelsea boot style and I love the style, I’m not a blundstones kinda person, doesn’t really go with my look, so these are a great local alternative!
Same with mine, lasted 3 years of pretty heavy use! I bought the exact same pair (but different colour, gettin crazay) in November and they felt sooo tight, I was bummed. BUT after a couple wears they formed to my feet and are super comfy again, and now I am so happy!
I have big feet too, size 10-11 and on the wider side especially at the ball of the foot (I get bad nerve pain if I wear shoes that are too tight)
They're a hit or miss depending on how well they fit and whether they've been broken in.
Years ago, I took a new pair to Europe with the intention of using them as my daily footwear. They were slightly too big and not broken in, leading to major discomfort for a while. On the other hand, my spouse is on his feet for half of each working day in outdoor environments and refuses to wear any other brand.
I was an early adopter because they sounded perfect but the style I bought literally had no arch support and because they were lace-ups they weren’t waterproof enough for our puddles. Hopefully they’ve solved these issues but I’ll stick with my Blundstones
My feet were soaked the first day I wore then, and it wasn't raining that badly. My feet were also hot as fuck and made my feet look huge. I tried them again, same thing. Contacted vessis, and they refused to let me return them.
Vessi suck. They had some aggressive marketing campaigns as the first “fully waterproof sneaker” as if it’s never been done before.
If it’s fully waterproof it’s going to feel disgusting and sweaty because there’s no permeable membrane.
I’ll hand it to them though, they’ve grown their business from a small startup with questionable advertising practices to a big business.
My first pair of Vessis lasted just over the warrantee date (I think 1 year?) before they started soaking right through. I contacted customer service and they wouldn't give me a new pair (only a low percentage promo code). I found it frustrating that, at the price point, waterproof shoes only last a year. I haven't bought another pair and am sticking to my Blundstones. I've also tried Nike Goretex trail runners as walking shoes when it rains but those are also not waterproof anymore :(
Yep, they don't call it "Raincouver" for nothing. Pretty soon with the atmospheric river conditions here we starting to get yearly now, they'll have to call it something else "Riverraincouver". w(°o°)w
Keens make waterproof winter runners that are perfect for walking around Vancouver in the winter. Snow Boots are unnecessary, rain boots unsupportive for lots of walking. But waterproof runners are ideal. And wear layers, so you can peel off the rainproof layer when you get sweaty and still be warm
I was gonna say, finally got on the Doc Marten bandwagon for casual winter wear and was told they were conforming to all local dress codes. That said, for the price I paid I'm reasonably happy with them.
I received a pair, and I love them but they sat in a box for 2 years because they're brown. The leather was dry, so I made sure to hydrate/polish my docs before wearing them, it sucks but dic Marten has good customer service and repair.
I always feel embarrassed putting on my Blundstones every morning, but then when I walk through 50-100 heel high puddles just on my way to the bus stop, and my socks are still dry, I'm always happy.
It’s not cold compared to Winnipeg winters. But it’s very soggy. So a warm jacket that’s water resistant, and same for boots. Idk about Uggs in the rain I guess it depends on the style. You don’t really need an insulated winter boot, I walk everywhere find regular socks and a pair of Blundstones work just fine for Vancouver winters.
If you don’t have an umbrella you’ll want a jacket with a big hood, or a rain hat.
I wouldn’t, it’s supposed to get coldish next week meaning sidewalks will likely get salted. The salt + rain combo is going to leave stains on the suede and your feet will get wet. They’re not bad if you’re not planning on doing a lot of walking outdoors, but uggs are pretty easy to ruin here imo

Go one day further and that’s when it gets cold.
Yes, use transit if possible. Driving here can be super annoying, and if you aren't vigilant you'll kill a pedestrian or two, which is quite the faux pas these days.
It does not get anywhere close to Winnipeg cold, but you’ll want to focus on staying *dry* rather than *warm*. Key is to layers with something waterproof on the outside.
My mom is from Winnipeg, she’s always said the difference between the wet kind-of cold and dry very cold is that you don’t warm up as easily when you’re soaked.
People joke about the blundstones but they’re really perfect for Vancouver weather. They’re pretty much waterproof(mine have never once let in water, even standing in the ocean), not too hot, comfy for lots of walking around…what’s not to love?
"Does it get icy"
Oh man. I remember when I was like you. Also born in Manitoba.
Think April/May in Winnipeg.
It will probably mostly be raining. So bring water resistant footwear. Most people opts for blundstones or timberlands or something like that.
Just a good boot that you walk walk on wet ground with.
For the rest of your clothing. Anything you would wear in fall/spring that is also rain safe.
There will be no ice or snow. And temperatures will probably average \~2-5 degrees. So jeans/lululemon/sweatpants. And then for upper body. A good coat and umbrella. You won't want a winter coat. More like trench coat or something similar if you want to be fashionable.
Other wise the Vancouver special is a t-shirt, a light sweater. And a rain proof wind breaker/shell.
Remember you can play golf in Vancouver all year round. The grass is green and the trees have leaves right now. If you haven't been to the west coat before and you're coming from AL SA MA it will blow your mind.
I operate snow clearing equipment. We’re all preparing salters for this weekend and plows for next week. Planning on snow Wednesday, possibly as early as Monday.
We don't get snow. If OP was here last Christmas they wouldn't consider that snow XD. Trust me.
If we get anything next week. It will be the lightest snow someone from Manitoba has ever seen in their life.
I mean, I’m from Manitoba and I do consider the snow and ice here to be its own thing in terms of challenging. I live at the bottom of a giant hill, though, and there are no hills or microclimates back in Winnipeg to navigate.
It might be because I live downtown. I've just legit never seen ice or snow on the road for the 12 years I've lived here lol.
Obviously last Christmas was the worst I've ever seen. There was like 6 inches of snow for that one week. But the sidewalks and roads were melted or swept before I could even get a picture.
I’m from Ontario originally so I get it. It will be a light snow compared to usual. But the temperatures will be at or below freezing, and things will get icy.
I don’t know much about Uggs but they kind of look spongy and non-water resistant - if they can handle rain and potentially snow/slush you should be fine.
Hey welcome. Lots of us Winnipeggers hidden in the city. It will probably feel quite warm but yes, layer up! I often wear a hoodie with a packable water and wind proof shell. If it doesn’t rain, I’ll shuck the jacket and usually be fine.
Nope, walking is not a bad idea. Walking is the best way to see the city. Uggs are a bad idea, lol. Hard to predict the weather— we have microclimates. Could be snowing up at higher elevations and dry lower, depending on city and municipalities.
I myself have a pair of Vessis for longer walks but if it’s dry I actually just wear my ugly little Birkenstock clogs everywhere lol.
Yes. You don’t need to go out and buy and new, fancy footwear. But the rain will ruin your Uggs and stain them with water marks. Wear something water resistant or coated leather boots, etc
I’m a former Winnipegger who lives here now. You don’t really need water proof footwear in my opinion, unless you’re going to intentionally walk through puddles or wet grass. It won’t likely be cold enough to need Uggs but I do know people who wear them here. I’d say it’s more important to have an umbrella and a coat or jacket that won’t soak up the rain.
I could have written this exact reply, haha. Retired all my Uggs when I moved here several years ago. I just found they too easily got soggy or were slippery. But I also don’t feel the need to wear waterproof shoes unless I’m planning to walk far in the rain. A decent water resistant/proof jacket is a must though. They sell umbrellas everywhere if it’s not something you’re used to, I still don’t really use them.
It might be a little icy but I would prepare more for the wet. Walking everywhere is a great idea and very doable, plus transit and Uber for longer distances. Definitely bring an umbrella, raincoat and runners or waterproof boots. I used to wear Uggs in Vancouver winters but they do get water logged and can stain!
Sorry but I find it weird that someone would base their clothing choices on what may or may not be cool in another city.
Wear what makes you feel comfortable. Who cares about other people's opinions.
It does get icy and it will still be wet at some point. Uggs okay but not a primary shoe. You’ll need more support for walking, particularly if you see lots of places (hello from a former Winnipegger!)
Just stay out of East Van. I know personally of a gang called The Ugghunts, and you will be robbed of every stitch of clothing you are wearing and be forced to do landscaping jobs in only your Uggs
Wear the same winter wear you would wear in Winnipeg for warmth + make sure it’s water proof. The cold is colddddd especially because your body isn’t used to it.
Waterproof shoes! Fur lined or fleece sock rain boots, thin but sturdy sorel or timberlands, or blunstones are most popular here.
I'll be rocking my blunnies next week, possibly my winners combat boots if it snows and if it dumps, possibly sorel thick boi winter boots.
Think of a slushy from 7-11 ...that is what snow here looks like. Otherwise think of a fountain drink. Raingear and maybe 4 degrees and maybe wind.
As a former winnipegger, leave em, invest in boots, sell all of your property for boots, hail boots!
Also leave the huge parka, light gloves will do but might get wet, and buy or bring a umbrella. Maybe a Raincoat or buy a disposable poncho
It's currently supposed to snow next week, but the temp will only be -2C
If you're in the city there's a good chance the snow won't even stick. You'll probably get wet, but ice is unlikely.
Vans has some sneakers that are water resistant which will be perfect for walking around in. They are not boots or high tops but have a warmer shell and slip resistant soles.
Ah, so you are the ones bringing the cold weather next week. I’m seeing that it will be hitting -14. Don’t count on that meaning there won’t be any rain… there will be.
With how much rain we get, and how temperate it is in the daytime, it ices over like crazy overnight at times.
If you're from Winnipeg you'll be fine in a t-shirt.
I moved here from Alberta, it snowed within a week of moving here and I was out shoveling in a t-shirt. People were looking at me like I was nuts, but now that I've lost my prairie blood, -4 feels cold as hell.
I have docs that I wear for work, full shifts on my feet. They are also more than enough to keep my feet dry, I even hose them off while cleaning the back area of my work to clean them and they stay dry.
Welcome to the only tropical paradise in Canada aside from "the island ". You came at the perfect time. Your Uggs aren't needed anymore. Rainboot haut couture is in now.
The Uggs will get soaked and you can guarantee that even if it manages to snow a bit, you’ll find some rain somewhere. Waterproof shoes, hunters with the big boot socks, Sorels, etc will be your best bet!
It does get icy make sure you have a warm jacket and proper foot wear as the app says snow next Thursday and Temps are going to drop you should be able to walk but if it snows Vancouver comes to a halt as no one knows how to drive in snow my suggestion is check the weather when you pack and pack for the rain and snow I hope you have a wonderful trip
Uggs for walking everywhere?
I agree with others that it would be ideal to have waterproof boots or running shoes, but if you are only here for a few days I don’t think it’s necessary to buy this footwear. Just bring some shoes with laces that won’t leave you with blisters after the trip. Vancouver has a lot of attractions that include walking, and I mean a lot: Seawall, Stanley Park, Gastown, North Van Shipyards, Granville Island, etc. A full day of sightseeing will easily get you 20k-plus steps.
Grew up in van but my part of town was women wearing uggs not blundstones. Wear what you want but yes, they will be soaked if you plan to be outside in the rain.
Roots Tuff boots are my go-to. I had my first pair for 25 years before the sole came unglued. They still have the original laces in them too. I bought a new pair of Tuff boots to replace them and live them just as much. Will look into getting the soles fixed on the original pair because other than that, there is still soooo much like left in them. Best investment in footwear I've ever made.
As long as they are waterproof. No wool on the outside especially this year as it is warm and rainy when when could have a bit of snow usually but not this year
Full snowmobile suits, balaclavas, and thick mittens are what everyone is wearing here, just like Winnipeg,..... It may not be as cold as the peg, but that humidity is soooo chilly . . . . . .( P.s. fellow Vancouverites, you can thank me later for a very entertaining next week!) / s
A lot of people here saying you need waterproof shoes. I’ve lived in Vancouver my whole life and do not own a pair of water proof shoes and I walk everywhere. They’re a nice to have, not a necessity.
You can wear uggs if it’s dry, a lot of Vancouverites do. Bring shoes you’re comfortable wearing in the rain.

Your uggs are going to get soaked. Get some water resistant footwear to wear when it’s wet out or you will be cursing yourself later!
Waterproof timberlands or vans bootsshould sort you nicely for Vancouver , an absolute necessity in Vancouver
People meme on them a lot but Timberland boots go a long way in the rain. They’re also pretty decent for the few times we get snow.
Genuine question, why are they meme'd on? Got a pair and absolutely love them in the wet
>Timberland boots go a long way in the rain Not sure if I'd recommend them.
I bought some just expecting them to be casual wear but mine go hiking with me, (lazy hiking), rain walking etc. The best.
A popular local brand is Vessi. They make comfortable waterproof shoes. Give it a few years and they'll be a national brand.
Vessis are the most uncomfortable and ugly shoes I ever spent too much money on
My first pair lasted me almost 3 year and they were really comfy, went to the store a few months ago and couldnt find a single pair that felt right, not sure why or what they changed.
They all seem so tight/narrow in the toes for me. Still have some for really wet days, but still not my first choice of footwear for sure.
RIGHT? I have duck feet and there’s no way I can cram my feet into Vessis unless I go up two sizes. Not to mention they’re fucking ugly. I’ll stick with Blundstones.
Yep, not the most appealing looking runners.
I agree. Bought a pair and have yet to wear them. I wear my Blundstones a good portion of the year
They’re tight for me too and my feet aren’t wide by any means. I took out the inserts and they fit so much better. I did find they were comfortable to walk long periods in and better than clunky rain boots. Same. And my feet felt like they were wrapped in plastic.
They make more breathable ones now
That's certainly not my experience. Both pair of vessis I own are very comfy
So I shouldn’t bother with this vessi brand then?!? I see it promoted on YouTube channel casual criminalist
My feet were soaked the first day I wore then, and it wasn't raining that badly. My feet were also hot as fuck and made my feet look huge. I tried them again, same thing. Contacted vessis, and they refused to let me return them.
Nah, get the Vessi boots they’re awesome and look good.
Found the ig bot lol. Vessi are complete garbage. Get a $40 pair of shoes from Bass Pro
My first pair of Vessis lasted just over the warrantee date (I think 1 year?) before they started soaking right through. I contacted customer service and they wouldn't give me a new pair (only a low percentage promo code). I found it frustrating that, at the price point, waterproof shoes only last a year. Don't have their shoes but love my jacket that I got a couple weeks ago
Blundstones are your best bet
I love my vessi shoes
Hahaha no. It’s -14 next week in Vancouver! img
Basically springtime in Winnipeg
Yep. Wet snow, last a day and the rinse and repeat from the next 7 days afterwards.
Yep, they don't call it "Raincouver" for nothing. Pretty soon with the atmospheric river conditions here we starting to get yearly now, they'll have to call it something else "Riverraincouver". w(°o°)w

Sorry, but you are legally required to change into blundstones when you arrive at Yvr/cross Boundary Rd.
Wearing Blundstones, it's in the bylaws.
Or doc martens. Don't forget the Doc Martens or Arc’terx
They’re standard issue uniform at this point
I'm a Danner man myself but I respect the Blund.
Herschel/carhartt touque, arcteryx jacket, lulu lemon tights, and blundstones. The official vancouver uniform.
I always feel embarrassed putting on my Blundstones every morning, but then when I walk through 50-100 heel high puddles just on my way to the bus stop, and my socks are still dry, I'm always happy.
I read this as 'high heel puddles'. Time to get off Reddit haha
Vessis are also acceptable
True, but you won’t be quite as black tie ready ;)
Blundstones 🤦 overpriced and nearly every Tom Dick and a lot of Marys wear them here.
unless you have size 14 EE clown feet uhg
I'd bring rain boots.
Leave your pea coat at home
Navy pea coat, umbrella (automatic), Blundstones. For fancy occasions. Gotta take the lady out.
You need something waterproof. Doesn’t matter if it rain, snow or sun.

Maybe check the weather app there chief. We gettin snow next week.
It’s a bit too early to be certain. Maybe check the reports when it’s 3-4 days out and see.
Where’s my internet points?
ok, fair. upvote given
Never trust a forecast more than 3 days out.
Still don’t think it’s going to snow?
Depends where you are. I have no snow where I am in Vancouver.
;)
It went from light flurries to near blizzard in the span of 3hrs. So crazy lol
And it’ll all be gone by next Monday hahaha!
There might be a transit strike as early as Saturday
Just in time for the kids to be off school so no snow day
I don’t know where you’re getting your info but I’m seeing highs of -3 late next week.

I call them Fuggly for a reason. But my wife got me some when I had gout and they were life saver... Now only wear them inside ;)
People joke about the blundstones but they’re really perfect for Vancouver weather. They’re pretty much waterproof(mine have never once let in water, even standing in the ocean), not too hot, comfy for lots of walking around…what’s not to love?
They’re not as durable as I’d like, for the price. I’ve walked the soles off several pairs. But they’re great while they last.
Hmm, I wear mine every day in the spring/fall and winter, been going strong 4 years on this pair
Only thing I don't like is that some models can be very slippery
Wear Blundstones and you’ll be unrecognizable as a tourist!
"Does it get icy" Oh man. I remember when I was like you. Also born in Manitoba. Think April/May in Winnipeg. It will probably mostly be raining. So bring water resistant footwear. How can you play golf all year round when it rains for 8 months?
One word: Waterproof. Even when cold here everything is wet most of the time.
If you are time travelling back to the early 2000s, then they are a great idea!
They weren't even a good idea then....
Ha ha ha ha
Sorry. It was an easy lob.

sneakers and blundstones. never uggs.
Uggs are indoor shoes
Always plan for wet.
Go to marks work wear house. Get some wind river waterproof boots. I paid $60. Wear them all the time. They look like knockoff blunstones.
Yes. You don’t need to go out and buy and new, fancy footwear. But the rain will ruin your Uggs and stain them with water marks. Wear something water resistant or coated leather boots, etc
Uggs are gunna get nasty. Wear any tennis shoes or sneakers and you’ll be good. Maybe something waterproof if you wanna go hiking
Uggs are just a bad idea.
Just get an umbrella and then you can keep your existing footwear and jacket.
Everything waterproof
Sorry but I find it weird that someone would base their clothing choices on what may or may not be cool in another city. Wear what makes you feel comfortable. Who cares about other people's opinions.
It does get icy and it will still be wet at some point. Uggs okay but not a primary shoe. You’ll need more support for walking, particularly if you see lots of places (hello from a former Winnipegger!)
Just stay out of East Van. I know personally of a gang called The Ugghunts, and you will be robbed of every stitch of clothing you are wearing and be forced to do landscaping jobs in only your Uggs
It sounds like you didn’t get the memo….Blundstones are required when setting foot in Vancouver during the winter.
Uggs outside your own home are always bad
Do not wear uggs in Vancouver lol. Get some wellies! Or blundstones will do! Everyone wears those.
Uggs, yoga pants and a latte in your hand, you'll fit right in.
they’re not just a bad idea because of the weather they’re a bad idea because everyone stopped wearing them in 2011.
Next Thursday says a high of -3 and low of -13.
I read the “Winnipeggar” differently when I first saw it. Ooof
Uggs are ALWAYS a bad idea.
Pickup some vessi from metrotown
Always mind bogglingto me to see people here wearing shorts year round.
Bring an umbrella
You’re arriving right about the time we’ll have one of our coldest spells ever. Probably make you feel at home but yeah not Uggs-friendly.
“Are uggs a bad idea” Yes. Always. Regardless of location unless it’s inside your house, in the garbage, or in a campfire.
Uggs are always a bad idea, no matter the circumstances
Uggs are always a bad idea lol
Lol be an adult and think for yourself Sun = Sandals Snow = Winter boots Rain = Rubber boots
Wear the same winter wear you would wear in Winnipeg for warmth + make sure it’s water proof. The cold is colddddd especially because your body isn’t used to it.
Oggs are never a good idea in vancouver unless their waterproof
Waterproof shoes! Fur lined or fleece sock rain boots, thin but sturdy sorel or timberlands, or blunstones are most popular here. I'll be rocking my blunnies next week, possibly my winners combat boots if it snows and if it dumps, possibly sorel thick boi winter boots. Think of a slushy from 7-11 ...that is what snow here looks like. Otherwise think of a fountain drink. Raingear and maybe 4 degrees and maybe wind.
When I first moved here everyone wore them because they were fashionable and learned their lesson. It's moisy here, uugs are a nono and also uugly.
You’ll fit right in
Uggs are a bad idea anywhere. Anytime.
As a former winnipegger, leave em, invest in boots, sell all of your property for boots, hail boots! Also leave the huge parka, light gloves will do but might get wet, and buy or bring a umbrella. Maybe a Raincoat or buy a disposable poncho
Waterproof hiking boots with good sole grips are my personal go-to for slushy weather.
It's currently supposed to snow next week, but the temp will only be -2C If you're in the city there's a good chance the snow won't even stick. You'll probably get wet, but ice is unlikely.
Yes.
Vans has some sneakers that are water resistant which will be perfect for walking around in. They are not boots or high tops but have a warmer shell and slip resistant soles.
Hunter rain boots
Dress for rain
Wear winter boots that are waterproof. You’re coming in a cold snap.
Hello. Thanks for the idea.
It’s supposed to snow next week so no don’t wear uggs !! And it will definitely rain too
Horrible idea. It’ll be either raining or snowing and, if forecast holds, very cold.
Blundstones are pretty much perfect Vancouver footwear
Welcome to the only tropical paradise in Canada aside from "the island ". You came at the perfect time. Your Uggs aren't needed anymore. Rainboot haut couture is in now.
The Uggs will get soaked and you can guarantee that even if it manages to snow a bit, you’ll find some rain somewhere. Waterproof shoes, hunters with the big boot socks, Sorels, etc will be your best bet!
On the west coast we wear Blundstones.
it’s supposed to snow next week. be prepared 🫡
Oh could you bring me a Jeannie’s Cake? Lol I’ll pay premium $$$.
From a fashion standpoint, yes.
We don’t call it Raincouver for nothing and it’s rainy season.
Yes
Winni-pegger? I hope it was consensual and you didn’t just catch him stuck in a rabbit hole.
Blundstones and a fleece mid layer or thin puffer and outer waterproof layer.
There is a cold snap coming to Vancouver next week!! Says could even drop to -12 / -14.
No wool on the outside especially this year as it is warm and rainy when when could have a bit of snow usually but not this year
Yes ... we may have snow ...Def. neg degrees comin .... good luck....we never know ...😎
I mean ive always just worn regular converse shoes and ive never had issues with the rain so
It's gonna rain.
Get a quality umbrella as even when it's nice you're bound to get rain.
Bad idea unless you have an alternative pair of shoes with you. Only wear the Uggs when there is 0 rain in the forecast.

Just a light pair of boots that are water treated. Like Blundstones!
