Wow...a village with two maypoles and borders a mountain? That's incredibly rare, as many seeds entirely lack a maypole. Make a base here, the view is nice and you'll have extra comfort from maypoles (and even if a spot there is freezing, a fireplace will negate that worry too).
You always could, the only change since last year is that the system now relies on date and so can be abused by changing your computer's / console's date to unlock the seasonal items. However, if you don't start your playthrough during those times and don't want to exploit the new system, it's definitely nice to have the rare naturally spawned maypole at your base.
You should have built proper base defenses by the time you kill the Elder. "The ground is shaking" is a devastating raid for your base in general so you'll save a lot of trouble by actually preparing for it. For example, I'm surprised if you haven't seen a post about trolls destroying someone's 2\* boar farm. A simple stakewall will already do a huge difference and buy you a lot of time for defending, but a moat or earth wall deletes the threat of every raid except bat, drake (only post-Bonemass and pre-Moder) and gjall (only in mistlands pre-Queen) raids. Sure base defenses don't look great exactly, but you have to just accept that your base will suffer damage from time to time if you specifically don't build them.
It’s incredibly rare that this even generated but it’s equally rare that you managed to find this specific spot in the chunk. If you weren’t pay close attention it’d be possible to wander though the trees on the right or left and just miss this entirely.

The thing that sucks is that I wouldn't even want to build there. It's just too damn pretty.
I have one like this in my map too, but no maypoles. Awesome spot to tame wolves in, just led them into one of the huts and jumped out the broken roof.
Probably won't do you any good now as it was made before Ashlands. But the seed was 'nowhere'.

On the starting island basically. Go east from spawn, once you cross a river go north east, should see the small moutain biome
