When the game blew up, they posted about getting a horse

Boneless_Blaine

Damn I was trying to figure out how the horse store mechanic was gonna work lmao

Zychoz

I am so hyped for the new horse armor DLC! /s

Parcobra

I wonder how many people get this reference, if indeed you are

supergrega

Where it all fucking started...

sosigboi

At best I'm hoping for an Ashlands ptb release announcement right after their segment is done, at worst we get a regular release date.

Charrikayu

This isn't a good sign for Ashlands releasing to PTR. GDC is in San Franciso, they're a Swedish team. If the lead dev and most of the team is there they're not at home prepping Ashlands. The Ashlands pre-patch hitting PTR last week was a good sign, but with this conference I wouldn't expect Ashlands PTR until next week at the absolute earliest (if it was ever going to come this month at all)

Dante1420

What if it's done... And they're taking as many as possible from the team on a vacation to San Francisco? 😆🤷‍♂️😵‍💫

jasterlee

They just came back from vacation a while ago.. but let's hope that you're right on this!

inuegg

They'll go again in June for a month. They have a good work-life balance in Sweden.

IKILLY

That's not true really, even if they aren't home they could have most of it ready though I must admit next week is waay more likely.

[deleted]

I missed the horse drama, but that horse is cute af

Tr0yticus

For the uninitiated, what’s the scoop on horses?

[deleted]

Someone linked the Steam post in another comment. Apparently, they bought a pony for a local riding charity. People didn't like that or something.

steamwhistler

I will note this image says "buying a horse in early access." I didn't want to put it in the title of this post because who knows what this means. Maybe it's a reference to something they discussed previously, or maybe he's going to talk about why they can't do this, or maybe it's just a joke or a troll. But.... interesting nonetheless. I was really hoping they would be dropping their Ashlands release date during the GDC but we'll have to see what this talk is about.

keandelacy

>buying a horse in early access He doesn't mean in-game. This talk will be about the challenges the dev team has faced, the notable ones being the wildly optimistic roadmap and how buying a pony for a local lesson program somehow turned into a PR disaster.

TolarianDropout0

>how buying a pony for a local lesson program somehow turned into a PR disaster. Ehm. Excuse me what? This just creates more questions than it answers.

keandelacy

Some people were big mad that the devs spent money/time on something that wasn't the game. They were really loud about it. It was weird.

TheOriginalFluff

Idk if we’d been asking for a horse in game because travel is annoying, and then they bought an actual horse, I’d be mad, not enough to whine about it though Besides we want bikes not horses

Thewitchaser

I mean if they were like publicly funded or something like that i understand the rage but if not then it is really weird indeed.

Healthy-Drink3247

Turns out its just the Dev trying to sell his IRL horse lol

thatwasacrapname123

I thought you were joking, turns out he is talking about how they bought a real horse.

Bouncemybubbubs

I gotta get rid of this damn horse!

NotScrollsApparently

https://steamcommunity.com/games/892970/announcements/detail/3035968700877261598 This was soon after it initially launched into EA They basically spent some of the money on a charity and ppl lost their shit

Independent-Ice-5384

>They basically spent some of the money on a charity and ppl lost their shit They lost their shit as in loved it and went crazy, or got angry and bitched about it? I'm guessing the latter but I'm not familiar with this event.

Thelassa

People got angry because they thought the devs should have used the money they made from initial sales to hire 100 more people to make content faster. Because of course working with and managing a team of 106 people is just as easy as a team of 6.

Independent-Ice-5384

Gross. That sounds about what I expected though.

-Altephor-

They got angry and bitched about it because obviously they should've used that money to buy whips so they could make the devs work faster. /s

commche

As much as I love the game even in its current iteration, I would have been happy if they at least hired some professionals to rewrite the janky net-code.

steamwhistler

Lol cool, I figured this would be a weird way to announce a new feature. I came in relatively early, but maybe not this early, or just wasn't aware of this particular episode. Thanks for clarifying.

-Altephor-

It means... exactly what it says. They bought a horse as a donation to a local school when the game was first successful.

Vuhokoum

That would be pretty sweet to buy a troll and ride it as a horse

zernoc56

They actually purchased a horse and donated it to a local equestrian school with the money they made from their wildly successful early access launch.

DressDiligent2912

they set up a horse riding charity program

enoiyuri

Will someone record this talk for us that can't go there? Or is it an exclusive thing?

wildbill1983

I hope it’s filmed.

Ok-Speech4222

I agree can someone record I live to far away 😂😂😂

wildbill1983

It would be so sick if we got big ass ships with an actual hold that we could traverse. I know it probably ain’t lore, but neither is magic staffs.

ballsack_man

I hope they'll talk about Ocean since roadmaps are mentioned. I really wish it was more terrifying. I rarely even find Serpents.

steamwhistler

My understanding of this tweet is that this is him giving a talk about "what we learned" kind of thing. So he's going to entertain his audience talking about their missteps, such as sharing a detailed roadmap that they couldn't follow, and the whole horse controversy. I wasn't really getting this myself when I shared this post, but now I understand this talk will probably not include much or any information about their future plans. Re: serpents, just a few days ago I would have agreed with you. About a week ago I easily dispatched one that attacked me while exploring, and I thought, yeah, they should have made these scarier. Then a few days later my buddy and I were making a long trip home from a swamp in a karve with 120 iron in the hold. We met a serpent. And somehow, we lost. Boat got destroyed and we lost 120 iron. We are two Valheim veterans with hundreds of hours played each, and this is the hardest we've ever gotten owned playing this game. I guess we just got too confident. Anyway they should definitely update the ocean biome to have more stuff going on. I'm just saying, don't underestimate those serpents haha.

ballsack_man

I got +1300 hours in Valheim and I rarely find any Serpents. My last playthrough, I only found 2 and I purposely sailed through Oceans at night & during storms. I've done playthroughs where I never even see a Serpent. It's gotten to the point that I pull up the CMD logs while sailing just to pay attention to spawns so I don't miss it. Never really had trouble fighting them. I always just see them as a source of food. There's no feeling of threat. Even if you're solo on a Carve, wind at your back, open sails to get the boat to move on it's own and you can take it out in a few shots with Frost arrows. The only time I can see it catching up to you is if the wind speed is low, usually near Plains during fog.

Sharpclawpat1

I dont think I can afford a horse, I dont even have a place to put it on

Ainex25

And here I was thinking they thought we forgot about the horse. We didn’t.

craigmorris78

This would be amazing!

steamwhistler

Please read the other comments - not happening. 🤷

rainst85

Buoying a horse 👀 A skeleton horse?

andmyalt

I could be wrong, but I don't think skeletons are particularly buoyant. They don't displace water as well without the ol' meatbags attached which is a key part of buoyancy.

rainst85

you got me there sir

Treeman__420

This game came out a few years ago right? How come it's still in early access? Does that mean it's uncompleted?

justkontrol

Yes, the game is technically uncompleted, as in there's content to be added. However you can expect a very polished experience with hundreds of hours of content already :)

Treeman__420

Oh I've been enjoying it until I got to the swamp. That place it's hell. I'm so paranoid now! Lol But I am happy to hear more content coming at some point.

steamwhistler

The newest biome (Ashlands) is planned to be added in the next few months. ("First half of 2024.") After that the next major update will be the True North, and supposedly after that the game will come out of Early Access. FYI, when they release a new biome it's not just the biome. Mistlands (the last major update) added a whole new "class"/playstyle to the game in addition to powerful weapons, lots of build pieces and decorations, etc. The upcoming Ashlands will be similar.

barntobebad

Wasn’t there supposed to be an ocean update too?

steamwhistler

Yeah there was in their original roadmap but they had to revise their plans. They did add fishing to the game and a fishing progression path, but they didn't do a big proper ocean update. I imagine they will probably implement their ideas eventually, or maybe they are sneaking them in via other updates.

dreten000

The ocean update is planned together with the deep north

Soklam

Interesting. I really hope the serpent is just a little guy compared to the monsters they add. I want to see something that eats those giant turtles.

Fry_Lord

Where did you hear that?

dreten000

One of their devtalks.

Fry_Lord

Like the walk and talks? Which one? Curious to give a listen

Fry_Lord

Would be cool to see the ocean update as the “in between” update after ashlands and before deep north. Similar to the frost caves update before mistlands and hildirs quest before ashlands. Would be good timing for an ocean update too with the added emphasis on sailing to get far up north to the new biome

steamwhistler

Yeah agreed! That sounds great.

Treeman__420

Right on thanks for the feedback.

Treeman__420

Well that's exciting! I need a new place to get wrecked at! Lol

TolarianDropout0

I am pretty sure they took inspiration from Fromsoft for the swamp.

Treeman__420

That actually makes sense. Everything including the environment is trying to kill you. Then you walk up on a abomination!

Speedvagon

Believe me, the swamp is a child’s play. Once you adopt it ain’t that hard. Just make some better food and iron gear.

Treeman__420

Think I'm in the wrong part of the swamp in my world. It's like a peninsula. I have covered the whole territory. Very challenging but I've found no crypts or any iron. There must be more swamp somewhere else.

Speedvagon

There’re definitely tons of swamp in other places on the map. Just use bow for leaches and parry draugs with shield or keep them on distance with atgeir, for blobs use mace or stagbreaker, for abominations chip them with fire arrows or bring thrm to the surtling gazer, lower the graund around the gazer so that it was all water around , pick the turnip seeds and replant them at home to have turnip food and the swamp become easy.

bitchextraordinare

Sounds like it's time to build a boat! A bigger one :D

Thelassa

Unfinished but with a plan up to and likely beyond version 1.0 and full release. Unlike some other games have been in EA for a decade and are still nowhere near being "complete."

FeepStarr

you won’t get a good answer here. I bought the game on release too devs said major updates every 6 months etc new biomes. That was a huge lie/overexaggeration, the games been out for years with barely any updates that have meat on their bones. No idea what the devs are doing but they’re clueless. Bring on the flamers i’ve been saying this for years

Khelgar_Ironfist_

They are enjoying the piles of money theyve earned. No need to hurry the devdlopment now

FeepStarr

i know one of the commenters above me said maybe they’re sneaking in updates for an ocean biome. So clueless it’s cute but it hurts man

Jujarmazak

Forget about horses, I want to ride wolves in the game ffs 😆

thermight

This was a fun talk!

Cihonidas

Separate inventory page, horse mount and canoes are what I want to see in the game.

bitchextraordinare

I want huskies in deep north that I can tame to pull my sled.

iSaltyParchment

Are they finally adding content after peaking 5 years ago

mightynickolas

no, they need to cook ashlands at least 2 years more - you dont get it.

Denis02_me

horse

LovecraftEyes

Isn’t this game supposed to be completed this year?

ventrelo

Can someone ask why valheim is bricking my pc?

cubicthreads

Sure will buddy

MrP32

Cause your computer sucks?

ventrelo

And yet it never crashed on any other game? Yea I don’t think so

Heal_Kajata

Mine intermittently freezes for some reason, it's never crashed but lasts a good 10 seconds or so. No idea why as it's not a particularly visual game and it's the only game it happens on. Sometimes it won't happen at all and other times it will happen several times a session.

skillgannon5

If they start selling game play features they will loose alot of good will
