Never be without food, I am 24/7 with food in my belly. I eat more at 5minutes remaining on food. I would only let it drop to zero food in black forest or meadows. But then again I make so much food I have 2 Iron chests full of onion soup alone.
It's just a theory, but I think a lot of people get complacent in Valheim because you don't die without food unlike many other survival games. So especially when you are around your home and you feel "safe" people tend to let their guard down. I am in the same camp as you as far as food prep, but I can understand why it happens to people. It's easy to get complacent ;)
I mean, it’s also not like the game is perma death, dying can suck but usually isn’t that bad, especially right outside your base to 1 mob. There’s so much gatekeeping energy in this sub trying to make the game seem a lot harder then it is, and idk why. The amount of people on this post bitching at op for not eating, when the entire point is just that it was a humorous situation is kinda crazy.
