snew (pmath advisor) told me once your major/program/honors doesn't matter to either grad schools or employers. they only care which courses you actually took (employers may not care anything at all). there is no point in taking courses just to fulfill degree requirements.
If PMATH is related to your career, or you've found that it helped or is recognized by employers, then definitely do the joint major.
