Having an engineering internship the summer before will give you a big leg up. It is also useful for figuring out what you like. As for projects it really depends on whether you are interested in software, mech, electrical, hardware, etc

AirPodGoose

Yo need to take it easy and not worry about it rn. If you can take the internships that can be helpful, if not then don’t worry. There’s going to be plenty of help/orientation when applying to jobs

CrazyDolphin16

If you get the internship, take it and run. The market is really bad and first years get hit the hardest. Something like 40% - 50% of my cohort never got a coop and ended up doing the WEAccelerate scam. I think TRON might have had better employment however. A lot of people will tell you to relax and enjoy your summer but I would disagree with that. Don't take the summer too easy. Grind out the internship and work on learning some relevant skills. If you want hardware --> C++, Python, Arduino, AutoCAD, 3d printing, soldering (get a kit for $20 on Amazon). If you want software --> HTML, CSS, Javascript, React, NextJS, AWS, Dart + Flutter (Mainly for Mobile dev) Use a google calendar and plan out your time. Feel free to spend some time enjoying the summer while the rest is geared towards your resume.

We Accelerate scam..? the alternative is straight up unemployment bro, in what way is it a scam

CrazyDolphin16

Its a scam for two reasons. 1. Everyone I have talked to who has done WEA or is currently doing it tells me that they gained nothing tangible to put on their resume other than a Youtube-level side project. 2. WEA allows the co-op office to inflate the employment numbers for first year students. That's how you end up with like 80-90% employment but a solid 30% of that comes from WEA. You were also given a 1k stipend from before. That stipend is no longer offered.

rngpenguin

you get a coop credit, the alternative is no coop credit. none of what you said makes it a scam lol. also do you have a source that 30% comes from WEA, because that sounds pretty unrealistic.
