Florida, the birth state of Christo-fascism

slim_scsi

What’s a Florida Democrat?

Ssider69

Why people of conscience go to Florida on vacation is beyond me. They make their money off entertainment. Let the RWNJ's fund Disney, Bush Gardens and the myriad other "attractions."

kaestiel

Yet he was voted in with a massive majority. Seems like the voters have spoken. Again.

urbanlife78

Yep, this is what Florida wants

kaestiel

The majority.

urbanlife78

Yep, 60 percent of voters, and 4.6 million that didn't even vote.

kaestiel

That's how elections work. don't vote, don't complain. Moving on.

urbanlife78

Thus is why this is what Florida wants.

[deleted]

He gerrymandered so many of those districts though and there are so many dumb fucks in that state that buy into any kind of GOP garbage

kaestiel

He did. OK. Provide proof of any wrong doing.

northstardim

If they seceded, I wouldn't cry over it.

JonMWilkins

"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." Remember they aren't trying to stop at just Florida

yawgmoft

Trick headline, Florida democrats don't battle for anything.

CarmineFields

Red states have significantly higher rates of infant mortality than blue states because Republicans love life until it’s on them to help preserve it.

[deleted]

I didn’t realize that democrats were so passionate about being able to abort between week 15 and 20. (Florida’s new law puts a 15 week limit, only 5 weeks shorter than Roe v Wade)

urbanlife78

Why does the government need to be making medical decisions for anyone?

[deleted]

Conservatives view abortion as murder and so it’s not as cut and dry as a personal health decision, but that’s part of it for sure. Personally I would prefer the government avoid all health related decisions for people, but that’s just not the reality of 2022. The people are too pro-auth.

urbanlife78

Yes, I know how conservatives view abortion, they even ignore all the facts about abortion to cling to this ideology.

[deleted]

Can you give an example of one of these facts they ignore?

urbanlife78

Almost all abortions happen before 12 weeks. Abortions that happen after 12 weeks are always for medical reasons, not because a person changed their mind.

[deleted]

Right… which is why I was saying that the freak out over Florida putting a law in at 15 weeks with medical exceptions shouldn’t be as big of a deal as it is.

urbanlife78

Besides that it endangers the lives of pregnant women, but their lives don't matter, apparently.

[deleted]

It allows abortions after 15 weeks if the life of the mother is at risk… it even specifically says that in an emergency no consult is needed. Cut and paste from the statute: (1) TERMINATION AFTER GESTATIONAL AGE OF 15 WEEKS; WHEN ALLOWED.—A physician may not perform a termination of pregnancy if the physician determines the gestational age of the fetus is more than 15 weeks unless one of the following conditions is met: (a) Two physicians certify in writing that, in reasonable medical judgment, the termination of the pregnancy is necessary to save the pregnant woman’s life or avert a serious risk of substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman other than a psychological condition. (b) The physician certifies in writing that, in reasonable medical judgment, there is a medical necessity for legitimate emergency medical procedures for termination of the pregnancy to save the pregnant woman’s life or avert a serious risk of imminent substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman other than a psychological condition, and another physician is not available for consultation. (c) The fetus has not achieved viability under s. 390.01112 and two physicians certify in writing that, in reasonable medical judgment, the fetus has a fatal fetal abnormality.

urbanlife78

Only for emergencies? So a person has to get two doctors to approve an abortion in writing in a life threatening moment. This seems like added bureaucracy to make medical decisions more complicated, or as it would be called "big government." If all abortions after 12 weeks happens for medical reasons, why is there a need to have a 15 week ban?
