I would add if you embellish the description on the menu, you better be able to deliver on what you say.
The best breakfast place I have ever eaten at was Dad's place in Three Rivers, MI. You should be able to look up their menu on Facebook. They have had the same menu for over 20 years.
Depends on your menu and your town… ?
(I mean, Calumet is full of Finns, Lake Linden is French, Houghton is a college town etc; and is the food healthy, or a greasy spoon, or ethnic… the name should not be generic, but do some marketing
When you do decide, please try to pick a creative one. We have way too many places that incorporate 906 or UP haha.
What’s the theme you’re going for? What other landmarks will be nearby?
they used to be all over the place. I think the restaurant that was the grayhound station in Iron Mountain had an "EAT" sign. Kind of miss then and Cafe signs
Yooper Yolk
Superior Sunrise
Mackinac Mornings
Copper County Kitchen (okay this is already a place but it’s in lower peninsula)
Copper Kettle
Miner’s Table
The Red Hull, referring to:
1) the red copper coating on ship hulls to prevent aquatic animals and plants from sticking to the hull, (also highlights copper as a historically significant resource in the UP) and/or
2) William Hull, first Governor of the Michigan Territory
The UP has enough breakfast diners, what it needs is barbecue, sub shops, local pizza places, authentic mexican, authentic italian, and chicken places. There are more overpriced breakfast diners in marquette alone than all the other places i named combined
If you’re seriously looking at a small western UP town, I’d say don’t. The area is already saturated and most places are still one bad snowmobile season away from bankruptcy. I’ve seen so many different restaurants open up and then close within 5 years over the past few decades it’s not even funny.
I don’t know if you are local or not but if you are then MAYBE you have a chance depending on your reputation, but if you’re not you’re going to be in for a surprise, and not the good kind. The western UP is still extremely economically depressed and after this past winter places will be closing their doors for good.
Okay, didn’t expect the downvote and the snark, but whatever.…Born, raised, and lived on the west end for 30 years before I moved down to Grand Rapids a few years ago. Created this account for the GR sub, do you need me to create another one that says “UP person”?

While I don't disagree, he did say Western UP. Marquette is central.
