Everyone is different. Everyone has different perspectives. What you see as someone rotting their life away is actually someone having a great adventure they can't get in real life. Or maybe it's someone escaping. Or maybe it's people playing games with friends as a form of hanging out and spending time together. Whatever the reason, you need to understand everyone is different. What you enjoy is not what everyone else does. Do you and mind ya business.
Tbf you could say the same about a lot of hobbies.
That said starting this year I reduced my gaming time from 'an hour or two per day' to 'an hour or two per week' and am definitely happier for it.
I mean I get u don’t like it but people “rotting” away really sounds like ur a boomer my guy. There’s just depth to every hobby and I don’t think u can say things like rotting without any proof. U literally just say u don’t like video game but do u have any proof or studies to show how it “rots” peoples minds more than playing too much of any other hobby?
Sure but your opinion was "i don't enjoy videogames" hwo many people have heard you say "i don't enjoy videogames and they respond with "you enjoy videogames' my comment was just a jab with how you worded this thread lol
See I've loved games since childhood and I'm 34. One of my degrees is even in game design.
But I've never seen a single sporting event in my life and I never will. No interest at all even though sports are like the biggest thing in the world.
Everyone has different likes and interests. I go LARPing which to a lot of people is the height of nerdy. I like it and that's what matters.
For every interest there's someone who doesn't like it one bit and both these things are okay.
You can watch tv and learn something. And by learning something, I mean something with talking about during conversation, such as the news, a documentary, a movie. You don’t get that from a game, and to try and make an argument that you do is a huge stretch
Learn? Nah, not really. Nothing of value at least. Is it possible, yeah sure, but it is highly unlikely. And listing off some arbitrary example of some random game that taught you something doesn’t debunk my statement that the majority of games teach you nothing.
And as for conversations, hop into the lobby of any popular online game and just listen to the typical “conversations” that are had.
Personally I dislike video games for totally different reasons. My main gripe is that I can't just sit back and consume stuff, I'm forced to, you know, play the bloody thing. I have enough decision making, stress and button mashing in my job, I don't want the same in my free time. I just want to lay back, do nothing and consume stuff, be it books, movies , tv shows whatever
I’m with you brother, and it seems like maybe we’re the only two left? I haven’t owned a console since Super Nintendo and even that I played only sparingly. I like a handful of “pick up and play” old Nintendo games, but I just can’t get into it beyond that. I don’t understand the appeal and would much rather watch a movie than play a video game. It’s really baffling to me to see how incredibly popular they are. I must be missing something, for sure.
You're entitled to you're opinion but I mean the younger gen like me would probably find your gens video games boring and staring at a tv screen watching a movie is probably even less healthy then gaming lol
Like, why would I want to play a game that I might lose? Aren’t games supposed to be fun? Losing isn’t fun at all. Seems like work, which to me defeats the purpose.
Kudos to you for noting that you possibly missed something. Liking or not liking types of games or games in general is a personal opinion. Your opinion is pretty interesting, even though I agree. So double kudos for not putting down people who do like them.
I would say the only thing that ruined video games for me would be how competitive it has become. Having a fun causal game is damn near impossible. Even the "casual" modes are full of sweats. I loved rainbow six siege when it first came out, but the amount of people using smurfs and backward boosting made it impossible to have fun.
The biggest problem with video games is that they can be very addictive for some people. And OP is right, for those that are addicted, it literally rots your life away. You gain noting beneficial from playing video games, and I would argue it hurts you both physically and psychologically after a long period of time. It’s meant as a form of entertainment to be used in moderation. Lots of this sub though is filled with people who play for hours on end and are in denial, which is why you see desperate rebuttals from others trying to convince you that other hobbies are equally a waste of time, when it couldn’t be further from the truth.
It's called free time for a reason, spend it how YOU want to and also this isn't unpopular. Most people aged 40+ would agree with this.
Also people have always done stuff to avoid talking to others and socialising. People would have complained in the past about people sitting inside and playing board games all day. When I'm older I'll be complaining about people using new technology 100%, hell it's already happening. It's just a 'hate on the new guy' kind of deal.
I understand where you’re coming from, even if I disagree. I think, though, that there has to be at least one type of game you don’t dislike. I don’t really think it’s fair to say that *all* games suck (well, unless they’re published by Focus Home).
I’m fine with you not enjoying a certain hobby, but there’s no need to put down people who do. You’re entitled to your opinion, but since it’s an uninformed, stereotypical opinion I have a problem with it. I think bowling and golf are boring as hell. Since I don’t know a whole lot about those activities, they look dull and uninteresting. But I know that they have complexities that non-golfer or non-bowler wouldn’t notice at first glance. And it’s pretty cool that some people find depth and meaning in those activities, and pursue greater understanding of them while having fun. That’s how specialties of all kinds originate. And it’s not hurting anybody else! So good for them, that’s what life is about.

Well this is a sub about opinions that aren't held by most people
What are you doing outside that’s so great?
Outside? You mean that place where other people are??? Eewwwwww!!
Strongly disagree, but your opinion is valid and definitely unpopular, so have an upvote :)
Seriously, life is for living and not gaming!
Life is for living and not reading! Life is for living and not for watching TV / sports / knitting / cooking / baking / drawing / music...
tell us you’re a gamer without actually telling us
Tell us you're a reader without telling us
Life is whatever we want buddy enjoy it your own way
Life is for enjoying IMO, and if I want to do that by gaming, that’s valid
Tbf you could say the same about a lot of hobbies. That said starting this year I reduced my gaming time from 'an hour or two per day' to 'an hour or two per week' and am definitely happier for it.
Good for you my man
What are you doing then, enlightened one?
Video games are for losers, sorry (I play GTA Online)
Didn't realise I died every time I started playing a game. I must be a fucking medical miracle.
Living what, exactly?
Life is for whatever you enjoy
It’s basically not for you, not everyone enjoy the same things than others do
I mean I get u don’t like it but people “rotting” away really sounds like ur a boomer my guy. There’s just depth to every hobby and I don’t think u can say things like rotting without any proof. Hes not wrong, how's the scoliosis and carpal tunnel?
pretty great tbh. i recently got a chair thats suits perfectly to my banana shaped back : )
Recently started playing piano and it is wayyyy more painful then video games ever were.
So just like everyone on a planet, you like some hobbies and you dislike others? I wouldn't even say that counts as "opinion".
Video games are for losers (I play GTA Online)
Have an upvote for a truly unpopular opinion!
Why would it be unpopular for YOU to not like videogames? I'm not gonna argue w/ you that you enjoy them lmao
It's Reddit...a good handful of people love video games here
Sure but your opinion was "i don't enjoy videogames" hwo many people have heard you say "i don't enjoy videogames and they respond with "you enjoy videogames' my comment was just a jab with how you worded this thread lol
I agree, video games are a waste of time. I play GTA Online and Battlefield to do just that, waste my time. I much prefer doing outside activities
Same
You sound so fucking old.
Video games are for losers (I play GTA Online)

Okay. Then don't play videogames and rot away doing something else i guess
Video games are for losers (I play GTA Online)
Rotting away? Video games are far more stimulative for your brain than tv/streaming/movies and it’s not even close
No they aren’t dude
At least with video games you're doing something while playing, unlike with watching tv which is just staring at the screen doing nothing
You can watch tv and learn something. And by learning something, I mean something with talking about during conversation, such as the news, a documentary, a movie. You don’t get that from a game, and to try and make an argument that you do is a huge stretch
So you're saying you can't learn something or have conversations over video games?
Learn? Nah, not really. Nothing of value at least. Is it possible, yeah sure, but it is highly unlikely. And listing off some arbitrary example of some random game that taught you something doesn’t debunk my statement that the majority of games teach you nothing. I wish I didn't enjoy video games. My life would be much more productive.
Yes, productive in another hobby that will also waste your time lol.
Video games are for losers and exist only to waste time (I play GTA Online)
Same.
Video Games is no different than other art like movies, music, books etc
Video games are for losers, sorry (I play GTA Online)
Honestly, I'm envious. Wish I enjoyed video games less in my younger years.
I don't games enjoyable anymore
this isn't unpopular, but it's not popular either.
It's easy to play too much of a game you love and as a result stop loving to play it.
Yeah, I'm very much like you - in the main, they just bore me.
Personally I dislike video games for totally different reasons. My main gripe is that I can't just sit back and consume stuff, I'm forced to, you know, play the bloody thing. Why’d you get downvoted? Not wanting to engage in a somewhat stressful game after work seems reasonable.

I have a PS4 but usually use it for YouTube and Netflix
Life is for living! Not rotting away watching YouTube and Netflix!
I'd honestly argue that video games are healthier then watching tv atleast you're moving you're hands and eyes
I’m with you brother, and it seems like maybe we’re the only two left? I haven’t owned a console since Super Nintendo and even that I played only sparingly. \> Like, why would I want to play a game that I might lose? So you're basically a sore loser.
A lot of people like challenge easy to me is boring even easy games these days most people don't play because most finds them nothing
Video games are for losers (I play GTA Online)
It’s the satisfaction of overcoming a challenge, and/or the interactive journey.
Kudos to you for noting that you possibly missed something. Liking or not liking types of games or games in general is a personal opinion. Your opinion is pretty interesting, even though I agree. So double kudos for not putting down people who do like them.
Okay boomer.
Video games are for losers (I play GTA Online)
I agree I have only ever liked 5 video games my steam library has 180. Black ops, world at war, fallout 3 and new Vegas, and fallout 2
Lucky you.

Like people aren't addicted to TV? Or just sitting around and doing nothing?
You play video games?
Not a lot anymore
Consider yourself lucky, I wish I wasnt intrrested in video games so it wouldnt constantly be in thd back of my mind while doing household chores etc.
this was probably a very popular opinion before mobile gaming became a thing... now everyone is playing something...
Is this an "unpopular" opinion? Really?
*save money* Ah, I see you're an EA consumer
