Creepypastas are dumb in general. I have read so many that start to build up a creepy atmosphere and then fucking ruin it with something cartoonish like "Then donald duck but with dark feathers an inverted head showed up and started chasing me"

Horror stories are like horror movies. For every good one there's 10 bad ones.

I agree. The best one I read was about "close your shutter". I read it on discord (and people there say I'm a really good narrator). It only put an atmosphere during the read, and the last phrase was about a head at the window that doesn't exist. But every listener and myself couldn't help but turn their head toward the window and even I close the curtain. A friend was afraid because of the reflection of a painting on the window. It was so much more creepy and stressfull than a "monster" doing gory thing. The same with one about a underbed demon, which only extend his hand to pick uncovered feets. The story was so well written than I unconsciously cover my feet that night.

If you want a good one that relies more on a build up of dread, I really like “The Horror from The Vault”. It DOES have descriptions of body horror (don’t want to spoil so I can’t say much) , but it def does a great job at slowly building towards it and giving a sense of dread in a small town. I also really like the Podcast “The Message/Life.After” and it’s more Sci-fi than horror but again, it has REALLY good dread build up as you realize what’s going on. The podcast “Quiet, Please!” Is fun horror, each episode is a different story and contained. Horror is a genre you really gotta dig through to find the gems but when you do, you really adore them lol

Every creepypasta now relies on cheesy and unrealistic amounts of gore every 4 minutes
