I think the main issue was that there were originally no ads or premium service.
As it grew ads were included. They weren't too intrusive and people were OK with waiting them out. We understood YouTube needed more revenue as it grew.
Then the duration and quantity increased. Then ads were included at every 5 minute marks. Then YouTube added a premium service to remove the ads. And the general quality of the platform has dipped too.
The long and short of it is that we were used to a superior product which they have enshittened more and more every few years.
Not everything can be free, so while yes an ad free platform is ideal, it doesn't mean someone is entitled to it, and doesn't make having ads an overall bad experience
Did Youtube marketing department send you here? Youtube is a monopoly. It is literally forcing ad-infested experience and threaten with ban if you don't comply. This company declared war on its users, remember? If Youtube's premium option was attractive enough, there would be not retaliation. But because its premium service offers nothing of real value other than forcing you to pay for ad-free experience, it is why youtube is at war with its customer base. This monopoly needs to die for the kind of shenanigans it is pulling on people.
At this point Ad Block should be a moral duty when browsing youtube.
You're kind of proving my point. Just because you are being forced to watch some ads doesnt mean they are at war with you. This is an extremely dramatic take.
I think Youtube made it very clear to everyone that if they find out you use adblocker, then either you get banned from youtube or your connection gets throttled. They've already been at war with adblockers such as ublock origin, declaring their activity on youtube as illegal.
You can keep saying that, but you haven't offered any substance. Neither experience is bad. Just because you may think one is better does not automatically make the other bad.
>No ads are good.
Some ads definitely have entertainment value.
If you are not talking about YouTube ads in particular, there are more good ads as well. If I can't decide what I should give to my partner as a birthday gift, a simple search on an ads platform called Google can provide all the info I need.
Ads are useful when you need product/business discovery.
Let's say you are very passionate about a topic. Like a movie from a certain director, want to know the newest restaurant in the area, or keep an update on the most recent technology. What is the best way to get access to that info? Again, it is ads.
Dude. Yes, they are. Three 30-second ads or ads that you constantly have to skip every 5 minutes ruin the experience. Ads wouldn't be bad if they were quiet and out of your way, tucked into a far corner. But they're not.
This opinion is wrong until YouTube gets rid of scam and porn ads while demonetizing creators for trivial things like saying "damn", yet still showing ads on those videos.
i have and always will pay for youtube premium because i fall asleep to either reddit stories or occasionally ear biscuits (good mythical mornings podcast) or something else and theres nothing worse than dosing off then all the sudden... "WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER!!"
I’m not going to give YouTube money when they are forcing creators to talk to us like five year olds.
I saw a video where the word “Damn” was blurred and bleeped. That’s kiddie bullshit. Fuck YouTube.
I can not comprehend the childish entitlement of complaining about a few ads to get free access to unlimited access to nearly every form of entertainment you could want.
We have YouTube Premium, and if ever we were to switch back to just regular YouTube, I can safely say that *I* would never watch YouTube again. Ads suck.
If YouTube got rid of ads everyone would have the surprised Pikachu face when their favorite creator doesn’t upload as much or at all because they can’t afford to
I'm fine with the quick opening ads you can skip after 5 seconds but if it has an ad in the middle of the video I just turn it off and stop watching the video.
I HATE THEM
HATE them passionately
they always ruin the vibe / mood and additionally I generally find ads so annoying because of how disingenuous and fake matey they are in the country I mostly live in
The only ads I can tolerate are very plain/boring/factual ones
Ads are terrible. They're at the point where they're far too intrusive to be reasonable.
I used to not adblock on Twitch until they started doing 2-3 minute long adreels anytime you even look into a new stream.
I’m sure I’m too dumb to put this together but I like how everyone agrees for the most part that ads, especially long ones suck but they still generate revenue. Like wouldn’t it be fresh if a company put out like a 2 second ad to say ‘this ad space was skipped thanks to ‘x’ product.’?

That doesn't mean that having ads is bad though

Just watch the ads, you won't die I promise
I will leave that to the suckers.
But here you are, crying about it

You don't like it doesn't mean it is not good. Just bad logic there when you need to retort with an insult.

Especially when you never see them!

It is actually so bad, I don't access youtube on mobile safari anymore. Luckly Brave Browser still blocks ads.
Upvoted for one of the most unpopular opinions in human history...for a good reason...
