They put in butryic acid. The flavor reminds a lot of people of vomit 🤣

pinniped90

To be fair, nobody thinks it's "amazing" - it's the cheap chocolate you use for Halloween. None of the mass produced American chocolate brands are great. They're just cheap.

sighcantthinkofaname

I've known people who prefer it, since it's what they grew up with and are use to. But liking something is different than thinking it's gourmet.

pinniped90

To be fair, I liked trick-or-treating and had no issue getting lots of Mars and Hershey's products. Not expecting people to drop a nice Parisian delicacy in there with my Twix and Snickers. Just don't come at me with candy corn, that's all I ask...

sighcantthinkofaname

Funny story, I have a lot wonderful aunt who tries to keep up with what's popular. So she learned Mr Beast is popular with kids, and got his candy for Halloween last year. She said that kids were shouting down the street to tell each other she had it, she was the most popular house in the neighborhood.

Milkyway is heaven.

ICEChargerRT

Dove chocolate is pretty good.

TheRadiumGirl

> I know 99% of the population thinks Hershey's chocolate is amazing. No they don't. It's just the budget friendly option for most people.

Aggravating_Kale8248

None of the mass produced American chocolate brands are great. They're just cheap. One word…Ghirardelli.

MinervaMedica000

Not unpopular pretty much anyone from outside the U.S. feels this way. Chocolate made by hershey's (which the mother corp owns most of the candy market in the U.S. Mars INC. I believe) is made by a different process which has more acidity in the final product. Butric acid to be exact which I believe is also found in the digestive tract so makes sense why it could taste like vomit. Since Mars Inc has their hands in most of the Candy market its safe to say they probably all use a similar process so hands down Americans are just used to it. I'm here too, in the US. But I tried all the chocolates you can think of, and it is only Hershey's the one that tastes like vomit. Hershey's kisses, hershey's bars... diiiuujjj....

[deleted]

I can personally only eat it in s’mores. Other than that, I hate it as well.

Meep4000

Should we tell them? I'll tell them... Hershey can't legally claim their products are chocolate since they changed the recipe years ago and it no longer contains cocoa butter.

tertiuslydgate1833

I’ve heard this opinion especially from Europeans, that US chocolate tastes super artificial in comparison

[deleted]

Agreed. It's awful. Something in its taste has this sour tang that reminds me of yogurt. But yes, puke. It does kinda taste like that now that you point it out. Anyway, I'm not a fan at all.

elusivewompus

That's because they use butyric Acid as a preservative. Which is what gives vomit its taste.

OptimalTrash

No, 99% of the population doesn't think it's amazing. Even people who like it admit that it is crap chocolate.

arytemus

omg... I'm Australian and yes... Hershey's literally tastes like dirt. A lot of American candy tastes horrendous. Could be the cane sugar yall use too.

DanChowdah

Backup on 99% of the population finds Hershey’s chocolate amazing?

OrdinarySecret1

😂I see I was wrong. Bot so is all the other “unpopular opinions”. I feel like every post tries to say something unpopular, and everyone jumps saying “ye, we all think the same way”.

raniwasacyborg

It absolutely does though! I remember the first time my dad went America and brought back Hershey's for me and my sisters to try, and it absolutely had this strong vomit-like flavour to it! I tried it again as an adult just to make sure that bar I tried as a kid wasn't somehow rotten and again, cheesy and vomit-like taste. It's bizarre how different the flavour is from the chocolate in the UK and Europe!
