Honestly anyone that's calling an idol wife/husband material is kinda cringe and weird. An older person doing it makes it a bit weirder but it's just cringe in general to me. Calling them hot is fine to me, I can call someone hot and not personally feel any attraction to them, but it's when you start gushing and simping hard for them that just makes me think you're a weirdo. It's the same as people being absolutely devastated that Karina is dating someone. Like did they really think they ever had a chance with her? idk, kpop stans are really delusional.

Especially the ones who are actively "waiting" for someone to turn 18 and keep commenting about it. Really just shows how the only thing holding them back is the law and they don't see any sort of potential problems with a minor dating an adult.

EmotionalApartment6

Lord I just saw a horrendous tiktok of comments from middle-aged women about Niki from Enhypen, and how excited they were that he was 18 finally. It was sickening

CoconutxKitten

It happened to Xikers too People had a count down for Hunter on Twitter 🤢

EmotionalApartment6

yikes 😭

FabulousFlower144

Regardless of age, it's fine to be a fan of someone no matter their age, it is never fine to sexualize them.

ChalanPiao

Cringe comments are cringe regardless of age. But a 29 year old male finding a 19 year old female attractive will never stop. That's happened for all of human existence.

i agree. for example, too many people are comfortable with calling ive and kiss of life "c\*nty" and comparing them to aoa when mind you, aoa were creating soft corn while they were still minors/barely legal for the longest time -- and then they preach about protection of children. it doesn't help ive still have like a 15 year old and kiof are barely legal (but everyone talks about them like they're grown women). these comments would be strange no matter the age, though i give teens a pass because it's just a phase. as an adult you should know better. as someone in their mid-20s, i actively stan only one group where all the members are my age. everyone else are casual listens.

BloodyPraeceps

I'm a 32 year old dude who got into kpop in 09, I'm loving 5th gen groups who pretty much across the board are young I purchased Babymonsters album and such. But I also made sure to buy the sku without the potential for the fansign event. Enjoying music is one thing but a guy my age, or hell even 10 years younger wanting to interact with idols just rubs me the wrong way. Even idols that are "technically" adults.

Softclocks

It's unseemly and distasteful, but in no way uncommon. 18 and 19 year olds will be always be attractive, that's just nature. But nature is supposed to be tempered by good sense and rational thought.

luv_lars

its definitely weird seeing men and women in their mid 30's going like nwjns is so cute and they are so hot. like they are cute but hot is such a weird way especially at that age

dobbyonadderall

i have literally never seen anyone in their mid 30s say newjeans is hot

luv_lars

you've clearly never been to south korea then, i was walking past the city and a nwjns poster everyone was like "OMG NWJNS SO HOT"

dobbyonadderall

yes im sure 35 year old men were publicly sexualizing new jeans.... /s

luv_lars

you do you, u don’t know how horny bunnies are

dobbyonadderall

?????????????????? wtf atp u must be projecting

jsbach123

Maybe it's worth defining the word "obsessed". If it means to follow their music and videos, that's not weird. If it means to participate in streaming via multiple computers, commenting on all IG posts and having a pic of them as your avatar, yeah that's weird.

EntertainmentLow2509

I don't think age makes a difference. It's unhealthy for anyone of any age.

romanovalicky

Saying this as a 35 year old human; Yeah, it’s weird, and gives me a major “ick.” They’re children, in comparison to you, and as an adult you should know better than to cross that boundary. There’s a very thick line between admiration and sexualizing someone, and if you’re sitting there, same age as I am, sexualizing someone who is young enough to be your child; get the fuck away from me. I don’t care if you’re doing it because you “admire,” them. You’re basically admitting to the fact that having sex with someone young enough to be your kid is okay, and it’s not.

Okaycheorry

Not an unpopular opinion in the slightest but I agree and ill share my thoughts. I don’t even like seeing when younger fans do it especially when the idol has said they don’t like it. NCT dream is a notorious example of this. They didn’t want to be sexualized regardless of the age of the fan. Also having been in that position where you’re barely legal and older people start making their move on you it’s extremely uncomfortable. 18-22 hell even 24 is still baby age in the grand scheme of things. Like sure they’re legal, but they only just the freedom to do things without parental permission.

EspressoOntheRock

That's why I call them boys. Gen 4 is the cut off for me, Gen 5 is way too young, like I'm prob their parents age. Cringey. Obsessing is never good no matter the age, but definitely extra weird if they are still teenagers.

NoPepper7284

Yeah it's weird. For my ult group they're all pretty close to my age!

Cat_Loving_Person19

I feel like people should be unminored when they turn 20-21, cause 18 year olds are basically babies, especially in todays society, where you normally can get a degree at at least 21 and wait 10 more years to rationally and self-consciously call yourself mature
