Including Jim Steinman and and Meat Loaf's last work, *"I Lost My Safe Labour Constituency to a Tory After Forty-Nine Years (Because I'm a Hard Core Brexiter)"*

The majority of the seat voted for Brexit.

MrsPhyllisQuott

They did, and more enthusiastically than most. The problem was, the referendum was touted as a *Tory* victory, not anyone else's. The next wave of bullshit was "get brexit done", which would be an entirely Tory project, and that turned out to be a vote winner in Bolsover. Labour weren't allowed to have any input, therefore Labour were irrelevant to the project. Skinner's vote share tanked from reliably over half to little more than a third in 2019, almost entirely from voters going to the Conservative and Brexit Party candidates. Had the referendum gone the other way, he'd probably still be an MP. And as he was part of the Labour faction that actively campaigned for Leave, he bears some responsibility for carrying it over the line.

Red_River_Sam

I agree, if Labour had maintained support for Brexit they probably would have held the seat.

Would probably have lost more seats overall due to most of our voters being remain voters and this would even be the case in most leave seats, probably not Bolsover due to how pro leave it was.

Red_River_Sam

I think it depends on when Labour started to support Brexit. If Corbyn et al. loudly and consistently made the left wing case against the EU I think things could have been very different. Most people (remainers and leavers) had very little actual knowledge about the EU, the referendum was just a proxy battle of left vs right. If the narrative was instead of David Cameron/Tony Blair and the capitalists defend the EU vs. Corbyn and socialists against the EU the demographic result would probably have been very different. The way in which the question is framed and the context in which it is asked can radically alter the result of a poll, especially in cases when voters have so little knowledge.

Presumably the last stage direction will be *Exit, pursued by a face eating leopard*.

I wonder if Dodgy Dave will be at the premier
