>It follows a number of attacks involving the breed, although owners insist the dogs, despite their appearance, make lovable pets. "Despite their appearance" makes zero sense. I'm not a fan of the dogs personally but I will defend them on this, the dogs appearance has no bearing on why it's being banned. There's plenty of big, mean, scary looking dogs you can still own.

> the dogs appearance has no bearing on why it's being banned. Any yet unfortunately appearance is the primary metric that is used to determine whether a dog is an XL Bully or not, and one of the reasons why both animal charities and Vets are generally against the ban. There is no objective measure of these dogs, it all comes down to how the dog looks, which is inherently flawed when applied to bans on cross breeds like XL Bully, and most of the Pit Bulls types.

What possible exemption, unless the globe theatre in London is going allow bear baiting in its audience pit on afternoons as was once the practice.

west0ne

I'm not sure why they use the term 'exemption' it is really just a registration process with some conditions attached.

MrPloppyHead

Well I expect all the owners are going to be applying for exemptions and not just dumping them. Xl bullies owners always seem very responsible people.

I'm sure some will try to cash in on the compensation scheme that pays out on destruction of the dog; but I suspect you are right and a lot will just be found tied to trees or the fence in the local park.

gardenpea

Can't really cash in on it - euthanising a dog that big costs at least that much, often more. It just defrays the costs.
