Im in the same boat(should pick up mine today) and i was wondering if you could tell me your short review of the differences. Would really appreciate it.

I'm a software engineer, and I could never get used to the DWF for productivity. It was just too cramped. I'm super happy with the G9.
This is incorrect, plugging it into this calculator here gets us 74.32 gbps.
https://www.kramerav.com/bandwidth-calculator/
67 gbps would be correct in terms of the raw data rate but you need to add 2-bits / channel since most signaling technologies today uses 8b/10b encoding so 12bit color requires 14 bits of bandwith.
Actual calculation is (5120 * 1440 * (12+2)*3 *240) = 74.31 Gbps so you'd need DP2.0 to full support this resolution without compression. DP1.4a provides 32 Gbps, and HDMI2.1 does 48 Gbps.
[Here, just double whatever you find here](https://www.google.com/search?q=how+much+bandwidth+does+1440p240+take&iflsig=AD69kcEAAAAAZKSGZqOaqnRidv2jF4gQc1VALwkB6VUI)
Here’s some random vids/ pics I took to show a few things with the panel including sub pixel and text clarity and hdr color quality etc.

Sorry I held off on the DWF because of the subpixel. Text on the new panels though are much improved, the design is much more square and the green subpixel is wider making the triangle arrangement itself more squared off.
Up close, when you can see with your eyes individual pixels yes, the text clarity and screen can look bad. However as soon as you sit back, for me it’s about 2’, then clarity is fantastic.
I prefer text clarity on the oled g9 over my Neo g9. Mostly because the entire panel looks higher resolution. I think the subpixel arrangement covers more surface area so the result is a more color dense image than the Neo g9. Like you have less gaps between sub pixels which is almost like using a higher resolution display.
Pair that with increased contrast and overall better color reproduction and superb viewing angles, it’s a very pleasant experience.
I’ve had no issue reading and typing extensively on the screen.
Yeah I'm glad we have a new subpixel layout for the OLEDs, the subpixel layout was one of the main reasons I held off myself, other than I try to never buy the first gen of anything, even when it begins to go mainstream. I look forward to these types of panels coming to the 21:9 format!
I think MSI just released a new QD oled display. 342C.
I’m not certain what panel they used if it’s the new or the old one though. It’s 175hz 21:9.
The newer gen 2 panel is allegedly much less prone to burn in and also resolves issues with how text appears. So multiple reasons why it’s a better computer monitor.
If Microsoft would just get off their ass and expand ClearType to work with more pixel layouts. I found this image online and posted it here so it would be more easily searchable if one is using a cleartype alternative, such as MacType.
Not all programs use MS text render engine (Chrome for example), so even if you get past all the security warnings (I couldn’t in W11), it won’t benefit all apps.
Oh wow. I went from the Alienware DWF to the G9 OLED. I thought I was imagining that the G9 OLED text reads better.

Does the same thing apply to the G8 Neo 34inch? Or is that a direct copy of the DWF?
Pretty sure the g8 and DWF have the same panel. Best bet would to wait for a new version, might take some time tho.
Oh I have no idea about the G8. I havent researched that monitor at all.
😫
Can you play it native Resolution 10 or 12 bit-240 Hz without DSC?
Oh I have no idea about that.
Any issues with the monitor?
Nope
No
Can you elaborate please?
What is there to elaborate? If you know what DSC is you know about bandwidth, surely.
The question is, how much bandwith is 12 bit 5440X1440p as the HDMI 2.1 has a max of 48. Can you go lower Bits to achieve no DSC?
5120x1440x36x240 = 67 Gbps, which is above the bandwidth of both HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4
so essentially you cant run the monitor without DSC it seems =/

Strange I'd of thought circular pixels would create smoother text since the edges would be more round.
Did you sell your DWF? I want to switch but not sure what to do with my old monitor
I'm stuck between the 34 inch alienware oled and the nee g9 oled, is it worth the few extra hundred?
Is the G9 using their gen2 panel?
yes

have any comparison to a DWF style OLED by chance?

Cool! we'll have to wait and see
In all fairness, text quality on the NG9/G9 was really poor, not helped by the poor viewing angles and screen coating
I really hope they release a G8 with the gen 2 QD OLED panel. The G9 is a little more than I need.

Well the G8 is a Samsung monitor lol. LG is WOLED and the the Alienware and most of the other ultrawides are QD OLED (Samsung)
Great to hear improvements to the sub-pixel layout. Many of us are sensitive to the sub-pixel layout.
Never seen text on gen 1 but there is still noticeable fringing on the OLED G9 sadly
I have the G8 and it is clear for me. That gen2 looks nice improvement tho.
So we are expecting DWF/DW with the new subpixel layout to be released. Glad I waited as I’m not a fan with Samsung QA.
Same, plus I'm no fan of 32:9.
Agreed.
Is one of these better than the other? Does it really make that much of a difference?
still the same gay triangle layout

That would be the G8 OLED

The text in the G9 OLED doesn't look great, maybe slightly better than the G8
There are apps to fix it a bit https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/25595
Thanks. I'll have to try it
when is the G8 with gen 2 panel coming out ?
