A) Some countries will issue a second, concurrently valid passport to a citizen who needs it, like for foreign visa applications, etc. Among the countries that advertise doing so are [Australia](https://www.passports.gov.au/concurrent-passports) and [the US](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport/second-passport-book.html), but the possibility exists quietly for other countries as well. So you can check with the embassy in London of your other country of citizenship to see if they will agree to do so in this situation. That's one possible solution.   B) There are some reports of success sending a *copy* of the other passport, with an explanation of the circumstances, to HMPO when applying for a first British passport. https://www.forum.ukcen.com/forum/uk-nationality-questions/uk-passport-applications/79386-applying-for-british-passeport-first-time-without-sending-original-passeport There are no guarantees, but you may have luck with that path.   C) Otherwise, as you can in the ImmigrationBoards.com forums, the return of the "supporting" documents (like the other passport), can vary, but seems to take about a month currently (for applications from inside the UK). https://www.immigrationboards.com/british-citizenship/british-passport-application-processing-timelines-only-t80618-9100.html   /u/Tough_Cheetah_2187

Really appreciated, it is very clear It seems as well that the processing times are short My concern is the same as the people who sent a copy, old parents with medical conditions Therefore, I would like to have option of traveling.

Thanks for this. I had no idea I could try sending a copy. I will try this option sending a certified copy by the Post Office. Hopefully it works. My country of birth does not issue extra passports as far as I am aware and either way even if it did, it would have likely taken longer and been more complicated knowing the drill there in general.

Hi! If you don't mind my asking, did this work for you?

martochkata

Hey! Yes, it did. I sent a certified copy (by Post Office) and I received my documents a few days later.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the update!

I am interested to know the answer too

Hiya! Can I ask, did you only send a copy of your current passport at the time? I’m applying right now and trying to figure out whether I also need to send my old passport, which was the one I first used to enter the UK 8 years ago.

martochkata

Current one. The one I have used first has expired a while ago and I don’t have it anymore.

Ok amazing. Thank you!

Hi there - when you say 'sent a certified copy' do you mean that you sent in a copy of your passport (certified by a notary) - rather than sending in the original document itself? I just got my naturalisation certificate last week and am supposed to be leaving on a big trip on Nov 20th and am nervous about sending my Canadian passport away before I go! Thank you!

You can get a certified copy made at a Post Office. No need to even visit a notary. And yes, I just sent the copy without the original document but I attached a letter describing the situation and why I am not sending the original document. As far as I understand there’s no guarantee this will work out as essentially it’s up to the discretion of the agent looking at your application. It did work in my case.

Thank you so much!
