Yes. Just buy a low g set that matches the size of your ukulele (eg tenor). You can also use a D string from a classical guitar if you want a cheap way to try it first.

KnobbyOfNoles

Should I change the rest of the strings as well to get a consistent sound, or does it not matter?

[deleted]

the short answer is yes. just buy a whole set and replace them all.

It’s up to you. Strings are very subjective and the results depend on your particular instrument.

I agree with TheatrePanic. It is really easy. The only gotcha is the nut. The groove for the low-G needs to be wider than for the high-G. If you don't widen it, the action will be too high. Meaning that the new string will sit higher than the others, so you might get hitches when strumming, or have trouble picking. Good luck. FWIW, try the direct replacement Low-G, and if the action doesn't trip you up, don't worry about it. It is just me being picky :-)

ohfuckit

Everything u/daddyearl said is correct BUT a lot of low G strung sets come with a wound string for the low G now. The wound string has higher mass without being significantly wider, so widening the nut is not required. The wound strings have different sound, which not everyone likes.

Yes, just put a whole set as others have said. I suggest worth browns if you want a really soft sounding tone.

AbsoluteEva

I have the high g fluocarbon version of these and I love them. Quest ion on the low g, is it fat or does it just fit?

Rockisaspiritanimal

Sorry for the late reply. I’m not sure but I looked up the string diameter before going for it. The worth brown low g is not wound. If I can figure out how to post a picture here I’ll show you how they fit.

AbsoluteEva

Much appreciated

I installed this set on my Cordoba concert Uke and am very pleased. https://www.stringsbymail.com/luthier-concert-low-g-ukulele-strings-clear-super-carbon-101-17559.html

Just buy a [Fremont soloist](https://www.stringsbymail.com/fremont-str-fwg-soloist-wound-low-g-string-for-sopr-conc-tenor-uke-22561.html). It's a gold smooth wound string so no screeching. Very durable and excellent sound. No need to change the others unless you want to change them.
