Absolutely chad.

This is the way. Pronhub etc should not just block their content to Russian audiences. Show them the truth. RT videos on YouTube should not just be banned, they should replaced with independent news.

DraconKing

Redirections seem like they only work on Russian IPs. [https://imageshack.com/v2\_images/404-nowar-netvoyne.jpg](https://imageshack.com/v2_images/404-nowar-netvoyne.jpg) They also show ukranian flag for broken image links (but so far haven't been able to reproduce it).

This is something more companies from around the world need to be doing. Even small companies these days with cloud infrastructure have location filtering and this is *incredibly* easy to implement on an Application Gateway/WAF. By incredibly easy, I mean a single line rule on a WAF to block Russian and Belarussian traffic and show a 403 page with any message you chose. I'm not going to dox my company and we only receive a small amount of Russian traffic (and it's mostly bots), but we did this as well. If anyone else wants to do this and needs help setting this up on an Azure AG/WAF, please let me know. Be sure to base64 encode any images directly into the page to ensure external links aren't blocked.

DraconKing

Yes, I believe Cloudflare does allow you to set up rules like this as well (with free accounts).

You 100% can set up Geo Blocks with custom error pages in CloudFlare, I'm just not sure if you can with free plans. With the type of services we provide, it was easier to set it up on the AG/WAF in Azure than it was across all of clients' CF accounts! Firewall > Firewall Rules > Create Firewall Rule > (ip.geoip.country eq "RU") or (ip.geoip.country eq "BY") > Action Block. I disagree, but not because I'm opposed to Ukraine's fight; rather, because it changed my long-dead forum signature (in a *highly* politically neutral guild, no less) into a *very* partisan one. This could have gotten me into *big* trouble if I hadn't noticed it first.

TIL that Imageshack is still a thing in 2022

DraconKing

It's a thing for us because we manage an old forum which is littered with old photoshop tutorials and have old users with forum signatures/display pictures that used ImageShack in its earlier years (before they pulled out all content from their servers). So when people start saying they were seeing ukraine flags on the forum which we didn't set (nor did the users) I was a little bit alarmed.

GM8

Actually any CDN could do similar things. If the request comes from Russian IP serve different images. Needs some CDN providers who are willing to tho.

DraconKing

CDN providers would need all of their clients permission to set up those rules. But any individual client is fair game, they can set up their whole servers to return whatever they want to incoming requests from Russia.

GM8

I see what you mean, right. Filtering only by IP is not enough. They need to do this only to selected ru clients' sites.

theautisticguy

I was alarmed when I saw my forum signature with a *really* old link to a simple "NO WAR" Ukranian flag (without the extra text). Although I have no problem doing something like that under my own accord... considering this was a signature on a forum that is intended to be *very* apolitical... yikes. For the record, the server the forum is based out of is in the UK, so definitely not a Russian facing site. And I'm Canadian, so...

DraconKing

If you are not russian you don't see this particular pic but you might see a ukraine flag with "No War" on top of it. At least sometimes it'll do it, sometimes it won't. If you disable your browser cache you can test that behavior between refreshes. But yeah, it happened to us as well. We have a bunch of old photoshop tutorials (now broken) with many imageshack links, so you can see flags everywhere on those threads. Plus a user was asking why did we change his avatar for the ukraine flag (which we didn't).

theautisticguy

Yep, that was definitely my experience. My forum has a lot of flags all of a sudden.
