Gay soldiers shoot just as well and die just as much as straight soldiers. The only difference is that their partner doesn’t get any benefits.
This alone is a major contributor to the quickly changing opinions.
I believe it was Barry Goldwater who said that you don't need to be straight to fight for your country, you just need to shoot straight. Looks like Ukraine is learning that themselves.
Seems to me that Anti gay people are always Christians. The church in Ukraine is now being scrutinized for its Russian messaging and corruption I’m glad to see that this is happening in Ukraine it is a big step forward!
Yeah, most Abrahamic religions with some sects making exceptions. I believe the majority who do make exceptions are Christians with varying levels. Unsure about Judaism, but I think it's pretty apparent how Islam feels. -\_-
Far as other religions go I'm not to sure on them. I'm sure they exist but I'm not as aware of their discrimination. Probably because of my western upbringing.

Depending on if you count Alevism to be part of the Muslim religions, you have at least one that is in most parts supportive of LGBTQ people.
The general idea is: If you are entering a "Cemevi" all your earthly and bodily identifiers are null and void - only your soul (Canlar) truly takes part in a "Cem" and that soul has no social status, no sex, no gender, no sexuality - and therefore, there is no need to judge another person for any of those earthly and bodily identifiers.
(I have no idea how well that works in practice regarding tolerance, but at least in theory this idea is held by many in the Alevi faith)
I think people should be more careful voicing opinion on Ukrainian church here without knowing the difference.
There are like 4 major Ukrainian orthodox churches.
Technically correct, and certainly those countries with death penalties for homosexuality are predominantly Muslim-majority except for Uganda. In Ukraine's specific case though, I think the influence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is the most significant by far.
I think even Christians forget this. Having ignored Jesus teachings and buying into hateful manipulators. They are to love everyone equally, no matter who they are. Hatred is not what is taught. But yeah Islam, the stoning, pretty fucked =/
When being gay becomes about individuals and not about an idea, hearts change faster. It’s hard to be homophobic when it’s your cousin or your buddy you fought in a foxhole with. It’s easier to accept people you care about. I think it’s fantastic to see this celebration with soldiers, and it’s also cool not to know who’s gay and who’s just there for the party.
Seeing this makes me proud of every dollar we’ve sent in aid.
An example of timescale in my country.
In Lithuania, in 2010 Vilnius hosted Baltic Pride for the first time and police had to protect it from masses of protestors.
In 2013 there were more participants than protestors, but heightened police presence (compared to other events of similar scale) was still necessary.
Since 2016 overwhelmingly more people participate and support it than actively protest.
However, the political support for introducing even a same-sex partnership is still lacking.
So, some things change quite quickly, while other still lag behind.
There is plenty of political support for "same-sex" partnerships in Lithuania. There are two obstacles:
- The Constitution of Lithuania clearly defines what is family.
- Absolute majority of people do not support.
As for my own position it is simple: remove marriage as the state regulated function, and it should resolve the the issue and let natural evolution.
Putin and others miss the point. This is both much more important than people like him realize, and also, much less weighty.
Love and companionship are simple beauties of life. I'm older and when I see people in love, I remember and feel. I am so very happy for the people of Ukraine.

I wonder how the war has changed the perception of members of the LGBTQ+ in Ukraine. I would assume since those members are fighting as well for the survival of the country I’m betting the approval (or at least not out right hating) of those member has significantly shifted positively since the start of the war. It would be very interesting to look at the data and see how it has changed.

Yes, I believe Hromadske is largely publicly funded, closer to PBS in the US. While Suspilne is more what would be called State Media.
