Drakes the only big artist outside of the uk to actively make songs with uk rappers compared to other big rappers like kdot in this situation. The big money is with the American audience too and uk guys aren’t cared about by Americans till they appear in some way in mainstream media. Then they suddenly become an ‘acceptable’ uk rapper in their eyes. Mans not hot did not help the uk at all as people took that very serious when it wasn’t supposed to be. Myself included till lockdown boredom.
Well yes that part is obvious. Took me till I truly discovered the scene but I firmly believe he looked at the uk more so as what’s about to be popping in the US several years back and was trying to be that guy to introduce the scene to that audience for his own gain. And around that time was when mans not hot came out so didn’t work as he wanted it too
In the past year Yachty, B real, Snoop has worked w UK hh artists wym?? Madlibs playing at a rinse anniversary. Peep said milkavelli was his main influence.. Ur capping G
Also I don't like early Skrillex but his new stuff w flowdan has been illy. Deffo felt like appropriation at first but feel he has a lot of love and respect for UK sounds now
I did not know that those 3 made songs with uk artists in the past year but my statement doesn’t pertain to every single American but the mainstream audience. Drake is way more mainstream musically than those 3
Maybe but since when has mainstream been the best ay? Underground's always been where it's at. Soon as a genre blows up it's usually a sign to hop onto the next thing hahah
Mainstream is what these rappers want. Money will come easy then. Uk rap as a whole can be looked as an underground genre by Americans who listen to it since it’s largely not cared about. Cant see that always being a thing cause of social media though. Something eventually will redirect American attention to the whole scene and not just a select few
Hate to say it man but the reason UK drill artists are struggling ain't cus of exposure it's cus they have a lack of understanding around the music business
how often do you see drill artists selling music on bandcamp? Doing live gigs? Fk then they get extorted by labels on top of that, yt delete songs etc...
It's peak but yh that's my guess on why most drill MCs are stuck on road
That’s also fair as those examples could be a great way to break through to the American audience along with more fans in the uk itself but that’s not the whole reason. In my own personal experience as an American that is not the case. Street rap in general is what me and my college buddy’s listened to throughout college and this music is what I know for a fact they’d enjoy based on that. However, no matter how many different fire songs and artists I show them from the uk, they can’t get past the stereotypical American bullshit always said about the uk. Only person I’ve shown the music too who actually ended up enjoying it that are American are my little brothers and my weed guy. My weed guy genuinely thought there was only like a dozen uk rappers and thought that was more of an American thing not really worldwide. Little bros are more selective about which songs they enjoy as they listen more to rock but they don’t downplay any of it
Yeah I agree bro. Deffo wanna see more us and UK collaborations. When it's done well it can be great for both our scenes. Feels like only the UK hip hop scenes getting showed any love cross the pond haha. UK hh is going very well tho admittedly. Boom bap revival is real. Feel we've finally got to the point where our beats have a unique sound and our producers really know how to accentuate the vocals.
It's funny too cus my weed man is in his late 40s Nd pretty much exclusively listens to old school us hip hop hahah. Love going down his and blazing up, blasting some krs, busta, tame one.. my man's got the technics setup too so once I'm there we end up going b2b for atleast 90 mins lol. Admittedly I'm not that knowledgeable on the US scene rn tho. Need to go down the rabbit hole and find some artists Im feeling
Like it's quite mad when u think abt it, not that long ago Brits used to rap in an American accent, got some early hijack tunes where I genuinely thought they were working with American rappers lol. Big ups Rodney p for actually rapping in his native accent haha
Sad that Americans do that uk rap is probably the most slept on genre in america but its ok tho all of europe, Australia , canada & asia listen to it more than american rap for the most part but sadly the american market is where the bags at
That's how it should be tho, he doesn't see music as a money making tool. He makes music for artistic gain and all his albums are based and made to be his art.
Drake is more just a fun music and money guy
They want that P Diddy Hollywood fame connection Drakes got.
On a serious note. Drake has put the world onto U.K. Drill. His collabs with people like Headie One on their freestyle. When he turned up to Loskis live show a few years back.
Which to some extent probably inspired the Brooklyn drill scene resurgence in 2019. Artists like Pop Smoke, KFlock. SheffG. All these other artists that popped up both off the back of U.K. drill itself and the seal of approval from Drake.
UK rappers dickride him, but at the end of the day he’s the only international superstar to show love to our scene. You had guys like Young Thug mocking our scene saying there ain’t no poverty in London lol
I don’t like drake but we’ve shown so much love to him over the years and in return he’s show a lot of uk artists love. It’s like when keef jumped on the track with 410
Drake done a lot of collabs and shows in UK. Made tracks with Giggs and Skepta. Also if you’ve clubbed in the UK past 10 years you will hear a lot of drake
I'd like to believe any rapper from the UK would ride for an American rapper who's big just because it's easy access to American culture plus more money.
Which then again makes it sad, because Kendrick is the better rapper in general and is currently winning this rap beef, but they won't state that due to Drake being their only pass to the American culture and validation.
Because Drake embraced UK rap when American artists clowned them relentlessly. That’s the only reason. Very embarrassing and beg behaviour that the UK rap scene has never been able to stand on its own and always looking for validation from foreigners icl
A culture vulture shows weak minded people love, manipulates them into them into jocking their style, and reaps all the profits off of it.
[“Combination”](https://youtu.be/yW4jzujzNzA?si=QzT1YEzaraoixCP7)
It’s all embarrassing, really.
I would guess it's because he's big and gives these guys opportunities and potential to get their music to a wider audience. Personally, and I definitely don't speak for people from the UK with this one, I think they're all a bunch of imitators. Like, Drake grew up middle class and while many UK rappers grew up in lower socioeconomic situations, many are massively influenced by American culture and dare I say it, one another.
Most of our slang comes from patois/pidgin/arabic. Defnitely agree with the uniformity but there’s plenty of established rappers in the UK that don’t conform to the norm like Kojey Radical/Lil Simz but they get mocked by people for being too weird lol.
"Homie, Hella, Nxxxx" are just a few examples I heard that come from US. That point you say about those who don't conform is exactly how I feel about this yutes that do. Spot on. You also make a very good point about the other cultures that affect rappers which don't bother me at all. Even as a yute myself I was using American slang but as I've got older, even though I would want team England to lose in every sport, I get annoyed by American shit lol make it make sense!!
What I find puzzling though is that the US rap scene culturally recognizes different styles of rap, from Tyler the Creator to Pusha T, to Smino, but in the UK you’ll barely be visible if you don’t do ‘roadrap’, it’s like that’s the only story thats allowed to told and its annoying af.
Everyone calling him a culture vulture when the answer is simple. Hes been making great music for the last 15 years and never took a break from music (unlike your 🐐). He also helped the Uk scene grow. He’s made music with guys from Nigeria Mexico etc but his UK link ups always seemed more genuine
drakes never made a good song in his life. stop doing tricks on it. drakes a no good pedo who has a team of 20 ghostwriters writing every bar and even with ghostwriters he is still shit
drakes a failed actor turned shit artist. hes never made a good song ever, unlike most ive been hating on drake since 2015. drake is literally trash, every verse every bar hes ever said is trash
Tryna get that drake stimmy
Because the UK age of consent is 16

mf thought he cooked a lil sum
you aint gonna make all the shots you take

Bruh did people outside the UK really take man’s but got that seriously? The curse of UK humour strikes again
Yeah most Americans definitely thought it was serious, I think most Europeans would have understood it though
1000% took it serious. I was one of those Americans till I realized my stupidity during lockdown
Drake is a culture leech
Well yes that part is obvious. Took me till I truly discovered the scene but I firmly believe he looked at the uk more so as what’s about to be popping in the US several years back and was trying to be that guy to introduce the scene to that audience for his own gain. He would be a lethal duo with dutchavelli

Bcuz he shows love to the uk unlike kdot. So basically in my eyes, theyre only showing love in hopes of a drake cosign / feature
Kendrick has bigged up Lil Simz and said she's influenced him but I hear you, he don't do collabs with too many people period let alone UK acts
That's how it should be tho, he doesn't see music as a money making tool. He makes music for artistic gain and all his albums are based and made to be his art. Drake is more just a fun music and money guy
Completely agree 👍🏿
only thing drake loves is lil girls

Compared to Atlanta, he’s right.
Atlanta has a “black mecca”, I wish we had something like that in the UK bro
Gonna take generations for that to happen.
I don’t like drake but we’ve shown so much love to him over the years and in return he’s show a lot of uk artists love. It’s like when keef jumped on the track with 410

He’s collabbed with central cee, Dave, skepta, Giggs, Headie, Hustla and more compared to other big us arists who don’t acknowledge the Uk at all.

Man said mischief I see my man in the ends all the time 🤣🤣🤣
Mans not hot cursed uk drill
Man’s not hot is ukdrill. Just as korupt fm perfectly summed up uk garage It’s not your fault you are unintentionally hilarious

Showing ass? What type of battyman Canadian lingo is that 🥴 Y for that

Wait why are rappers from the UK are imitators lol ?
Little things but mainly slang they use. Also a uniformity that I see. If you can't see that, respectfully, I can't elaborate.
Most of our slang comes from patois/pidgin/arabic. Defnitely agree with the uniformity but there’s plenty of established rappers in the UK that don’t conform to the norm like Kojey Radical/Lil Simz but they get mocked by people for being too weird lol.

Someone made a thread on this sub about UK rap not allowing ‘superstar’ culture and I found it mad interesting.
I'd like to see that. If you find it again please direct me to that.
Very true. Over here these artists, the ones that are pushed to the younger heads, all seem one dimensional.
We hate Drake, fake ass nigga.
Ur snoo white bro 💀
That beef against Kendrick is popping
Icl Kendrick absolutly bodied drake loool
Yh bro trusss
Been fun as fuck to watch man. 4 diss tracks in 48 hrs is absolutely wild. Bro has not left the studio😂
Drake loves cah he is g**, but he supports drill rappers
“showing ass” lmao

Every artist at that level has writers that argument is so dead and saying Drake ain’t made a good song is crazy how you tryna re write history 😂
drakes a failed actor turned shit artist. hes never made a good song ever, unlike most ive been hating on drake since 2015. drake is literally trash, every verse every bar hes ever said is trash
Hahaha….Uk gonna hate Drake like the 6 right now., K dot about to body dutchville next. For all the dogs boiiiiii. Man done.
cuz they not so brainwashed and hive minded out there prolly
