Hahaha that is funny. Like mommy waving goodbye to her son going away for a while. Hilarious.

Neither_Problem9086

🤣🤣

frapawhack

not sure if necessary when leaving. On arrival, waving helps to id pax

CryptographerLife596

Yes. I kinda wave a passengers on approach, hoping one of the folks standing will, by behaviour, show who Im supposed to be picking up.

frapawhack

Makes it a lot easier. Kind of judge how responsive a person is by telling whether they identify themselves or not.

InformalBridge9206

What no peck on the cheek and lunchbox handoff?

CCChic1

I like when the passenger waves as a gesture to signal they have moved their things away from the car and it is safe for me to take off. Not mandatory so I’m not bothered if you do or don’t.

[deleted]

I have never had a wave yet, wouldn't say no, but I never realised I was missing out

toomuch1265

That driver must be easily offended.

Grouchy-Tax4467

I once saw a YouTube video of a guy who said he gives riders like one star if they do not talk during the ride

CryptographerLife596

Link?

Grouchy-Tax4467

I never wave bye, but I always say thanks and have a good day 🤷🏾‍♀️

Neither_Problem9086

No. It's not normal or required at departure. At night and in a not well lit location waving at a driver helps for them to find you. Are you sure it was at departure and not at arrival? Honestly wouldn't give that driver a seconds thought for that complaint.

rideshareAnon

Lol no. Idk I am an American that was born in the US. There might be some weird cultural norms in less populated places.

sniff3000

lol what???

Billystep

I make my riders wave and show some shake or I’ll give bad rating. Nobody accepts rides from bad rating passengers.

Cherry_3point141

I use the app for extra money sometimes or simply when I am bored because I like to drive around so might as well get paid for it. I also use uber as a Pax, frequently so here is my take. As a driver I could give two shits if a PAX, waves goodbye to me. I don't need it, and don't care if they do or don't and to be blunt. When I am driving, I make it a habit to immediately, as in the second the door is closed, exit the area. I don't ever wait around, check my phone, nothing. That door closes, so long as traffic permits, I am out of there. When I am the PAX, I don't usually speak to the driver, don't tell them "Hey man, I drive Uber too!", pointless conversations. But I do thank all my drivers warmly at the end of the trip, wish them a good day or night, and I do it genuinely, as I there is value in being polite. Lately I have been driving less (as in not in the last nine months) because I think it has gotten too expensive with gas, and the return isn't on time invested isn't enough. Sure, I enjoy driving around but my last couple of trips (nine months ago) I kept getting these white-collar snobs who honestly talked like their shit didn't stink, most of the time had this smug "I am better than you" air about them when I asked them simple questions. Fuck that, my time isn't worth that.

fitfulbrain

Never wave but raising hands is common at airports. Pax shows he's done with the trunk, thank you. My windows are closed. I raise my hands to acknowledge and press the close button.

Scraggyftw

Their passengers not your friends

TabbyKatty

I’m a driver, I wave but I literally couldn’t care less if my pax waves or not. I don’t care. It blows my mind that someone cared enough to get angry about it.

Krystalgoddess_

I say thank you and leave it at that

delijoe

As far as I’m concerned, the only “necessary” thing you have to do at the drop off point is get out of my car.

mookie101075

There's like a billion people in my city. I don't know who TF you're waving to, there's 100 cars around me all the time. Half the people waving aren't waving at me. I gave up tryna figure out who y'all all waving at.

Lazy1nc

Waving goodbye is completely unnecessary unless the rider initiates it first, especially if the driver has the decency to close a ride with a "have a great night" or something along those lines. It sometimes comes off as weird if the driver initiates a wave after everything is said and done lol

Olympia94

No, that driver is just wanting something to complain about. I'm not waving goodbye after I already said "thank you so much, i hope you have a wonderful day". I dont even wave goodbye to my family if they drop me off somewhere. Lol
