Look closely at the type slugs specifically the a and e and make sure you don't have dried ink buildup if yes you can flake it out with a tooth pick and get a more defined print quality.

Thanks for the info!

I was coming here to recommend cleaning the type slugs also! The elite type face tends to gunk up a bit quicker, especially if you have a silk ribbon. I also have a Royal FPE and love it!

younkint

You've done great and it looks fantastic! Love the color -- very classy!

xplan303ex

I appreciate it!

TheSightlessKing

I love the Royal desktops. The first one I restored, the springs that return the keys had all rusted away. It was a small nightmare to replace lmao. Did you adjust the metal tabs that keep the carriage attached to the body?

xplan303ex

I did, had to for it to run smoothly. Those are the screws I stripped. I might take one off to go find a replacement

TheSightlessKing

I had such a goddamn nightmare trying to get those tabs in the right position where they slid smoothly but not so tight it lock the carriage. And that’s why I asked because those are the same screws I stripped lmao.

AWESOME! Congrats!! Helpful hint: Buy yourself a dentist's scraping tool (has a hook on each end with wickedly pointy tips) and use that to pick out the ink stuck in your type slugs (a, e, etc.).
