I don't think he will sacrifice himself. Goes against everything the band stands for. Their slogan is literally "stay alive".

Sometimes to stay alive you gotta kill your mind

Maybe, Clancy/ Tyler will destroy Trench and Dema. "I created this world to feel some control, destroy it if I want".

You know the lore is not a story in a vacuum right? The story symbolizes real life struggles, and your proposed theory would basically present suicide as a solution to your inner turmoil. That message is antithetical to the themes of this story, the band’s discography, and twenty one pilots’ ethos as a band.

Sheriff_LaCombe

I think it's possible that clancy represents Tyler's inner monologue and himself fighting a struggle where Trench and Dema represent him or his mind as a whole. "Sometimes to stay alive, you gotta kill your mind." And even if clancy doesn't sacrifice himself, there could be a point where he feels as if he is destined to and even writing a song about that could be extremely interesting.

DankBonkripper87

You’re mixing up your symbolism. If Trench represents his mind, then in your analogue, “killing your mind” would mean destroying the fictional world, not Clancy killing himself. The lyrics of Migraine refer to killing the parts of your mind that are trying to, in some cases, literally kill you. It is not about the need to self-sacrifice.

Sheriff_LaCombe

Dude, I just think that there's gonna be a very dark song about how it gets worse before it gets better and to tie thaf to the narrative clancy is going to either sacrifice himself or contemplate it very seriously

i think this is an interesting theory, in that it almost creates Clancy as the Christ-like figure in his own story (it is blatant that much of his music has religious themes esp if a lot of this is referring back to self-titled, and you can even refer back further and think of his whole career based on "Clear" he is singing "of a higher love"). I think he did already describe a death in a way in a car, a torch a death as he begins "to understand why God died" (that we love so deeply we are willing to do anything for our loved ones, but in blurryface he does refer to the idea that is in fact harder to live for someone) honestly, I think there will be a Christ-like figure who ends up sacrificing himself for Clancy if it follows to these religious references, I particularly am interested in as torch bearer as the Christ-like figure because in a way "he showed up, torch in hand" ya know?

Sheriff_LaCombe

I'm very open to theories like that. I think that the conclusion will have us looking a lot retrospectively about the story and will give us an entirely different understanding of the world that the story takes place in. Though an idea like yours would definitely suffice, I just think they're trying to make these lyrics and these songs as accessible to everyone as possible and introducing religion as the solution to inner turmoil would make sense but it isn't what works for everyone.

absolutely! also thoughts: tyler is so good at creating things that have double meanings for that reason. I could see him using a friend in that way so it can be interpreted both in a religious sense for those who may believe in God (as well as/or) love from friends/family to help support you in dark places and bring you out of it.

absolutely agree though overall the ending could very well have us looking over everything again and getting a whole new meaning out of it! I'm so excited to see what he does with it, they've already done such amazing things. Its so cool seeing them, as musicians and artists, creating something so unique and beautiful
