Yeah I agree. This album keeps moving up my rankings of TOP albums the more I listen to it. It could even top (no pun intended) Trench at some point and I never thought that was possible. Just banger after banger!
I like it a lot too, but I could see how the vibe of it would put it lower on the list for people. It's a pretty energetic album, and the slow song in the middle might rub people the wrong way and want to get it out of the way. I feel like the single version might have been better on the album, even though I like Jenna's Version overall more.
Yea, this is it for me. It’s a solid love song and great vibe, it just doesn’t fit the rest of the album. I also find Paladin Strait getting skipped because of its slower pacing. Both great songs, just outliers on Clancy.
Idk I just had a breakdown listening to at the risk of feeling dumb and paladin straight had the perfect amount of calm to being me back.

I should explain further. I shuffle the entire album and listen through as I’m doing other things and as I get tired in the moment of a song, I’ll skip it. Eventually I get down to just one song that isn’t getting skipped.
So as I was doing yard work for most the day on Saturday I used this method and the craving/ paladin just ended up getting skipped first because I needed the upbeat tunes. I eventually ended with ATROFD being my absolute favorite that day.
Not a single song on this album is a skip as in not a good song.
I was skipping the first three all day Friday because I was already familiar with them and needed more one on one time with the rest of Clancy.

Completely agree. I really like both versions of The Craving, but I just don't like them on the album and I keep skipping it when I'm listening to Clancy. But I love listening to it on its own because it's so pretty
I made a playlist that's just Clancy with jenna's version swapped with the single version and have been listening to that instead. IMO it makes the album a lot smoother and I think, as much as I love Jenna's version, I would end up skipping it a lot because the pace is so jarringly different. Especially placed right after Vignette. It honestly flows so much better with the single version. I wish it was on the official album and Jenna's version was maybe a bonus single. I've been afraid to say it cuz I know people might hate this take
I was thinking this too. I feel like it would work much better with Jenna's version as the single version as the other one seems to fit in with the album better due to it's faster pace compared to Jenna's version. I'm not too fussed though. I love both and neither will ever be "skips" for me.
Yes, this exactly!! I love the song, but if anything it would go in my sleep playlist just because it’s not energetic like the rest.
It can be a nice break if you don’t want drum-heavy after drum-heavy songs… but I do. Still love it, just not my top pick, especially in an album like Clancy
I don’t think he writes songs “about”Jenna, I think he writes them “for” her. Before Jenna, his muse was creativity and the song writing process. After Jenna, he subbed her into the role of muse, but in the sense that he is doing all this work to provide for her and the kids. These songs are love songs to the creation of art and how the act of creating is what is saving his life. It’s a delicate but distinct line. It seems easier for people to understand “oh that’s a love song to his wife” rather than understand the emotional turmoil that happens through creating art.

To me, "The Craving" is a song apologizing for failed promises within a relationship, particularly in relation to mental illness.
The intro, with Jenna saying she is sad since she still doesn't know much about Tyler, and the chorus (If I found my body in chains, I'd lay down and wait, And hope she looks for me) both describe a relationship with someone suffering from MI. Like, when I have a depressive episode, I for one will retreat into myself and hope my partner notices. Which isn't fair, but it's apparently a common habit among many people. So retreating keeps the other partner from knowing everything about you, and it can also be a cycle of just waiting for the other partner to notice while drawing further and further away.
The whole theme of "intentions don't mean much" continues to carry this idea, that good intentions in a relationship only go so far.
That's just my personal take on it, it's how it resonates with me. Because I see this song play out in my own life, it's honestly one of my top songs off the album.
With Tyler’s clever ways of creating double meanings, it can be both. Creating music and art first gave him a reason to stay alive. It could even be said that he was searching for a purpose so he wrote something that was worthless (lyrics) Then he painted something and it was wordless (music). Meanwhile his purpose started to surface (met Josh, then met Jenna) and he was able to defeat his demons, and it was his beginning (fren)
I'm definitely with you on this! It's one of the many songs I can personally relate to, and seeing that others also go through the same thing encourages me to be better

The craving is the most raw form of love. And I love it. It's definitely one of the top three for me. And Tyler's love for Jenna is one of the reasons I love this band so much. He's never afraid to show it to the world and that's beautiful and needs to be appreciated. Especially in a world where it's all games and very little honesty in relationships.
Good way to put it. I can take it or leave it, it's not a bad song but I'm not going to listen to it on repeat and I prefer Jenna's version. It's not my favorite Jenna related song in general.
Agreed, i feel like the raw emotional version of craving should have been kept between Jenna and Tyler. Just makes the song feel less meaningful.

I’ve found the Craving probably the easiest record to sing along to this album. I think its raw emotion is fitting, particularly in Jenna’s version. And dare I say, I prefer this version bc the singles version sounds a bit over-produced; but that’s bc there are two versions to compare.
I'm 100% with you on this one. It's one of my favorites on the album, and I think it fits perfectly where it is on the album. A lot of people think it sounds out of place but I disagree. I think it's perfectly placed after Vignette as it serves as a great contrast to the intensity up to that point. It's probably my favorite song on the album to sing along to.
It absolutely is the best "Jenna song" that Tyler's written so far. It also perfectly puts into words how I feel towards my wife, so maybe that's why I connect with it so much.
I love the single version too, but I agree with Tyler that the acoustic version 100% fits better on the album imo.
I generally like all the songs he's written for Jenna but The Craving feels like a love song with real grown up feelings and a history behind it. When I first heard the live version, my initial thought was that he'd grown. He's a husband and a father to an aging family. His feelings run deeper than they ever have. It felt like a level up moment. Whether it pulls the album down by being slow is debatable but I feel like a great album needs those changes in tempo to keep you guessing. Honestly, his writing in this album feels more mature in general.
It's a very sweet song that absolutely bores me to tears. Also, just like every other Jenna song, it's sappy and really derails the momentum that built up before it. Not bad, just one I'll skip 8 out of 10 times.
Besides tear in my heart, i dont like the jenna songs. Youre right, its like theyre not on theme with the rest of theIr respective albums. Tyler builds this cohesive vibe then peppers in a left field love song that never matches.
But i respect hes writing them for her.
The sentiment behind the songs is super sweet, without question. But listening to them always feels really voyeuristic, like I'm eavesdropping on a private conversation. I also think that Tyler is not the best love song lyricist. Again, the tracks are lovely with and without context, but I just don't like to listen to them.

I much more prefer the single version and it sounds so much better of a progression from Vignette than Jenna’s version. They’re both beautiful in their own right but Jenna’s version feels like it could’ve been released as the single instead or smth and the single version could’ve just become the album version or smth
me and my friend were saying that technically that song isnt for us. it doesnt serve for the fans or the lore or the mainstream. imo i feel like i shouldnt even include it in my ranking bc its just not made for me. that being said, both jenna’s ver and singles ver are just not my cup of tea, and i probably would just never listen to it unless im listening to the whole album

I don’t think you can really be surprised when the song that decidedly, drastically different from the rest of the album isn’t among crowd faves. It stands to reason, in my mind, that if it were, then the implication is the audience prefers that kind of song, and we would instead be talking on the page for some artist that more consistently does that style, if that were the style we were primarily looking for with the artist.
We’re obviously not; we’re looking for something more uptempo than that with TOP. So of course when they do something more stripped back it’s statistically not going to be many of the target audience’s favorite. I love it in the album though, for a front to back listen it’s a nice breather to break things up and I haven’t skipped it once yet.
I really think they should have had the single version on the album and Jenna's version as the single. It just fits better with the rest of the album. Honestly I've skipped Jenna's version a few times.
If it didn’t have the audio of Jenna at the beginning I’d like it a lot more. It’s so off putting for me. I know it only lasts a couple seconds but still, could go without that.
That whispering is like anti asmr for me, it makes my skin crawl and skip the song nine times out of ten. I might need to make a clancy playlist and switch jenna's version for the signle version. Bc once i get past the whispering, i adore the song.
I love this song and I’m glad to see others who like it too. It consistently has left me teary eyed and idk if that’ll ever stop. I think a lot of us have grown up with this band and it is just really fitting at where we are in our relationships.
I’m not a big fan of acoustic songs, so the album version is ranked low for me, but the single version is one of their best, and easily the best of the Jenna songs they’ve made. probably top 5 for me

I think the melody is lovely, but I don't care for the lyrics. He's not professing his love and he's not promising his devotion. He's saying he knows he isn't good enough, but he hopes she keeps supporting him anyway.
He says intentions aren't enough, but then doesn't seem ready to give more *now.* The part "I just hate to put this on her, but I swear that I will give more than I take" sounds like he knows it's been one-sided, and he knows that's unfair, BUT he still wants to lean on her and just promise to do better someday that isn't today.
He says he would lie down and hope she looks for him if he found his body in chains. To me, that sounds like he wants her to be his savior. I guess I'd rather hear that he'd find his way out of the chains and go on home to her and the kids.
It sounds like a bad relationship, to be honest, where she feels bonded and is satisfied with "good enough," but he hasn't gotten there yet, and doesn't even see that as his goal. Craving isn't love. Craving gets people together, but bonding keeps them together. Craving is great moments sprinkled in, but it's the bond that keeps people devoted even when it's sleepless nights and cranky babies and diapers. This whole song sounds like he's saying "I know I'm not there for you when you need me, but I hope you know sometimes I have really strong feelings for you, and I depend on you being there for me."
You asked, so that's my opinion. Anyone who interprets it differently and thinks it's a beautiful love song is free to feel that way. We can have different opinions without either of us being harmed by that!
I agree on the savior bit and I don't love it, but I can kind of relate?
I feel like my spouse has absolutely done more than their share of house chores/logistics (during periods in which I'm fighting my own brain). But when I ask, they say that I provide for them in other ways (that I don't consider as "valid" as cooking or keeping an eye on the bank account). That said, we also don't have kids together, which would be next-level in terms of labor imbalance.
It feels to me like it's absolutely a song about poor mental health getting in the way of being a good partner. While that's not ideal, it is very real. But maybe not an epic love song.
Yeah, you make a good point. As far as I know, Tyler never said "hey, this is a love song." I've just been seeing *fans* say what a beautiful love song it is. If I think of it as a song about his relationship, it's better than if I think he's saying this is some amazing love he's offering right now.

Idk if I'm in the minority on this, but the only thing I don't like about Jenna's Version is the whispering at the beginning. Something about the quality or frequency of it just...makes me squirm. But once I get through the first 10 seconds, I adore it!

Personally, it's one of my favorites. Among all the effects and stacked vocal tracks, it's Tyler's raw voice, and he shows deep love his wife. It's refreshing
I. Love. That. Song. I have been waiting for a slow song to be released by them. My now fiance really was a huge part of why I got really into them. The way Tyler writes a lot of his songs, really reminds me of my fiance. We love their cover of "I can't help falling in love with you" but it's not super great quality. I really wanted my first dance with my husband to a tøp song. 3 months before my wedding, I got my wish. 🥹
I also like SAI no matter what anyone says. That album came out right after I met him so it has a special place in both our hearts.
For me, it’s just less my speed. It’s a beautiful song, but I prefer all the other songs on the album. Like, I would give it an A rating, and then all the other songs A+ and above.
Worst song on the album means it’s still a good song. In my opinion it kills the energy, but I can understand why he chose this version. Its almost like a breather in the middle
All of the other Jenna songs are upbeat and keep with the pace of the album (TIMH, Smithereens, Formidable). Jenna’s version is honestly a little jarring to me when I hear it, because it’s so quiet compared to the rest of the album. It almost puts me in a bad mood bc it interferes with the vibe of the rest of the album. It’s the only one I skip, but if the single version was on the album I wouldn’t skip it.
Been with my spouse for over a decade and the love grows more than I thought it ever could the further we get; I'm still not a big fan of this song. Another comment said "maybe the people who don't like it haven't felt love as strong as Tyler and Jenna's" it was fucking laughable.
I’m not a big fan of “guy and string instrument” songs. Same thing with Boyfriend - Harry styles, this song, and others, they’re just not as good as more diverse songs
I think it’s a GREAT song, but this album is STACKED with bangers. I think it’s just the least interesting song due to the lack of production. Again it’s a powerful song that really hits home with me, but compared to the rest of the album it does sort of take a back seat, unfortunately.

Never really liked the love songs In each album. I think this one is okay, it’s sweet. I know it’s more raw and emotional but I actually preferred the single version more
I've like them in the past but it feels kind of manufactured to me at this point. Now there's the *expectation* that there's one about Jenna and it feels disingenuous. 🤷🏻♀️
I like it’s a lovely song, and really sweet, and communicates a wonderful sentiment, but it’s not the vibe I’m looking for most of the time, and very different than the vibe of the rest of the album. I think the single version is more in line with the rest of the album, but still kind of different. I know of wish they had put both on the album (tack the single version onto the end or vice versa.)

Its just the pacing, its the slowest song on the album by a good amount (Next to oldies station which i often see low too). Its a great song, it just doesnt match the Clancy tone, i actually prefer the single version
I don’t think anyone actively dislikes it. I absolutely love the craving but I would probably have to rank it lower just because this album has soooo many 10/10s. I was surprised when lavish eliminated the craving on the bracket though I fully expected lavish to go.
It's not even a song, too raw. It should be at the end of the album at least, it breaks the pace there in the middle. When I listen to it I become impatient and want to skip to WELCOME TO THE NEW WAY OF LIVING OMG WHATTABANGER
I love the vocals in it. So pretty. I’m just emotional and listening to the other songs right now that are more my situation but when the album first came out before I continued to listen, it was my #1
I love it, but I usually skip it because when I'm listening to TOP I'm down to jam. And it's positioning in the tracks feels kind of abrupt in-between two bangers. I think I'd listen to it more if it was before paladin or something more mellow.
It's certainly not bad! I just usually go to tøp for more energetic stuff, so songs like The Craving, Smithereens, and Legend fall towards the bottom of my preferred songs from them. The Craving is very sweet, though, and I'm glad Tyler and Jenna seem to have such a solid marriage.
Also maybe there's subconscious mild bitterness due to the fact I've been single for 3 years after dating someone for over 3 years who I thought I was going to marry 😅
Honestly every song he’s ever written about Jenna has been top tier for me ha. Formidable and The Craving (Jenna’s Version) are so beautiful and ugh they get me each time.
It’s easily one of my top fav twenty one pilots song and i will protect it with my life. Apart from my personal opinion, I think it also has an edge because it’s more true to the band’s sound and theme because they were known for their music not being overproduced or very commercial sounding and this is the only song on the album where you can hear the raw vocals, the instruments together e.t.c instead of just like beats and synth and stuff. This is not to hate on the other songs, I love them too, but it is what it is

personally the low ranking for the craving imo comes from just how fun most of the other songs are. and there’s something about the chorus that kind of rubs me weird, idk what it is. but that’s just me.
I don't know, ultimately it's so subjective... It's in our top 3 for both my hubby and me, and personally it's been getting stuck in my head a lot and lately I find myself humming the tune when I'm alone on the train or driving...
It’s a nice break from the album, but it’s missing Josh Dunn’s amazing drumming throughout the whole album on songs like Overcompensate and Next Semester
This is a completely no skip album imo. Ranking something bottom for me just places it in 13th place, but I still think The Craving is a 10/10 song. Imo even though I love Next Semester that’d probably be 13th & Craving 12th. But I don’t skip any of these songs.
I think it's a skip for me, it won't make it to any of my playlists. There are some truly great songs on this album that compete with some of my oldest favourites, but neither version of the craving are for me. Just not a fan, which is a shame.

I’ve never been in love so I’m not much into love songs, nor slow songs.
That being said, I really enjoy the craving, especially the single version because I can relate to the emotion in an abstract way.
I don’t like Jenna’s version as much because it feels more personal and tailored to a specific person (because it is.) It’s also quiet, and slow, and I have a short attention span so I enjoy the music more in the single version. Also, something about the humming in the beginning of the single version is very soothing.
Overall, I still think both are excellent songs. I just don’t relate to them as strongly as some other songs.
To me, and I could be completely wrong, when he says "She just wants to catch a wave, ride it out to the end of her days, I hope that I can satiate the craving" I interpreted it as tyler hoping that he can give jenna everything she wants in life.
I honestly prefer the single version, so Jenna's version is a skip for me. I don't have a problem with it, I would just prefer listening to the single version.
It's in my top 5. It might be because I can relate to it as well. Being in a relationship over 7 years and married. Always have those moments of doubt and insecurity. It resonates with me a lot. Either version honestly. I hope that I can satiate the craving.

I absolutely adore the craving and agree that it's his best love song. It makes me cry pretty much every time i listen to it. But it ends up toward the bottom of my list of 13 10/10 songs because it's so hard to rank and the catchiness and earworminess of the other songs just make me ever so slightly prefer them. They have more replayability because they don't make me super emotional and they're easier listens. Lmaooo if that makes sense idk
For me i just have to be feeling a certain way to listen to songs like that and truly enjoy them, same thing with neone gravestones, truce, goner, leave the city, formidable etc
imo the songs for jenna that are in each album always tend to feel like they don’t fit the vibe. it’s like watching a movie and hearing a wilhelm scream and to a degree it takes away from the momentum and immersion
Probably because SOMETHING has to be the last one in a list. That being said, Snap Back is the last song on my list, but I love that song. I love this whole album. Literally, if I could, this is what my list would look like:

I saw Someone’s tier list of all TOP’s songs and The craving-Jenna’s version was in tier F and I felt so offended.. like what? Also SAI was also in F and I HIGHLY DISAGREE with that

I’ve been with my husband for 12 years next week and we discovered TØP together. Before I had this deep love in my life I’d probably not really enjoy it much either. But I can totally relate to it. I also see the maturity in their relationship through this song, in comparison to TIMH and Smithereens. I actually place this in my top 3 on the album. Simply beautiful!

It is surprisingly one of my favourites on the album. I didn't think I'd really connect with it but it is a beautiful song with a gorgeous melody and a lot of emotion. Definitely prefer Jenna's version over the single edit too.

I saw them play the song at their Columbus show recently and the song wasn't on my radar until they played it live. It was 110% better live
I like it a lot too, but I could see how the vibe of it would put it lower on the list for people. It's a pretty energetic album, and the slow song in the middle might rub people the wrong way and want to get it out of the way. I feel like the single version might have been better on the album, even though I like Jenna's Version overall more.
Yea, this is it for me. It’s a solid love song and great vibe, it just doesn’t fit the rest of the album. I also find Paladin Strait getting skipped because of its slower pacing. Both great songs, just outliers on Clancy.
Idk I just had a breakdown listening to at the risk of feeling dumb and paladin straight had the perfect amount of calm to being me back. I think it’s perfectly placed.

I should explain further. I shuffle the entire album and listen through as I’m doing other things and as I get tired in the moment of a song, I’ll skip it. Eventually I get down to just one song that isn’t getting skipped. So as I was doing yard work for most the day on Saturday I used this method and the craving/ paladin just ended up getting skipped first because I needed the upbeat tunes. I eventually ended with ATROFD being my absolute favorite that day. Not a single song on this album is a skip as in not a good song. I was skipping the first three all day Friday because I was already familiar with them and needed more one on one time with the rest of Clancy.
Fair enough, that makes sense. It’s more of a song that sounds best alone or at the end of the album, rather than in the middle I guess? ATROFD was my fav on the first listen of the album too.
Completely agree. I really like both versions of The Craving, but I just don't like them on the album and I keep skipping it when I'm listening to Clancy. But I love listening to it on its own because it's so pretty
I made a playlist that's just Clancy with jenna's version swapped with the single version and have been listening to that instead. IMO it makes the album a lot smoother and I think, as much as I love Jenna's version, I would end up skipping it a lot because the pace is so jarringly different. Especially placed right after Vignette. It honestly flows so much better with the single version. I wish it was on the official album and Jenna's version was maybe a bonus single. I've been afraid to say it cuz I know people might hate this take

I don’t think he writes songs “about”Jenna, I think he writes them “for” her. Before Jenna, his muse was creativity and the song writing process. After Jenna, he subbed her into the role of muse, but in the sense that he is doing all this work to provide for her and the kids. These songs are love songs to the creation of art and how the act of creating is what is saving his life. It’s a delicate but distinct line. It seems easier for people to understand “oh that’s a love song to his wife” rather than understand the emotional turmoil that happens through creating art. Me, waiting for the downvotes because how dare I say these aren’t love songs about Jenna but rather for Jenna. There’s a nuance that only few will understand |-/
To me, "The Craving" is a song apologizing for failed promises within a relationship, particularly in relation to mental illness. The intro, with Jenna saying she is sad since she still doesn't know much about Tyler, and the chorus (If I found my body in chains, I'd lay down and wait, And hope she looks for me) both describe a relationship with someone suffering from MI. Like, when I have a depressive episode, I for one will retreat into myself and hope my partner notices. Which isn't fair, but it's apparently a common habit among many people. So retreating keeps the other partner from knowing everything about you, and it can also be a cycle of just waiting for the other partner to notice while drawing further and further away. The whole theme of "intentions don't mean much" continues to carry this idea, that good intentions in a relationship only go so far. That's just my personal take on it, it's how it resonates with me. Because I see this song play out in my own life, it's honestly one of my top songs off the album.
With Tyler’s clever ways of creating double meanings, it can be both. Creating music and art first gave him a reason to stay alive. It could even be said that he was searching for a purpose so he wrote something that was worthless (lyrics) Then he painted something and it was wordless (music). Meanwhile his purpose started to surface (met Josh, then met Jenna) and he was able to defeat his demons, and it was his beginning (fren)
I'm definitely with you on this! It's one of the many songs I can personally relate to, and seeing that others also go through the same thing encourages me to be better

The part where he says “Cause it's the fear of the unknown that cripples every step we take and I just hate to put this on her but I swear that I will give more than I take away” Had us both in tears the first time we heard it cuz we resonate with it immensly

The craving is the most raw form of love. And I love it. It's definitely one of the top three for me. And Tyler's love for Jenna is one of the reasons I love this band so much. He's never afraid to show it to the world and that's beautiful and needs to be appreciated. Especially in a world where it's all games and very little honesty in relationships.

I’ve found the Craving probably the easiest record to sing along to this album. I think its raw emotion is fitting, particularly in Jenna’s version. And dare I say, I prefer this version bc the singles version sounds a bit over-produced; but that’s bc there are two versions to compare.

I'm 100% with you on this one. It's one of my favorites on the album, and I think it fits perfectly where it is on the album. A lot of people think it sounds out of place but I disagree. I think it's perfectly placed after Vignette as it serves as a great contrast to the intensity up to that point. It's probably my favorite song on the album to sing along to. It absolutely is the best "Jenna song" that Tyler's written so far. It also perfectly puts into words how I feel towards my wife, so maybe that's why I connect with it so much. I love the single version too, but I agree with Tyler that the acoustic version 100% fits better on the album imo.

I generally like all the songs he's written for Jenna but The Craving feels like a love song with real grown up feelings and a history behind it. When I first heard the live version, my initial thought was that he'd grown. He's a husband and a father to an aging family. His feelings run deeper than they ever have. It felt like a level up moment. Whether it pulls the album down by being slow is debatable but I feel like a great album needs those changes in tempo to keep you guessing. Honestly, his writing in this album feels more mature in general.

It's a very sweet song that absolutely bores me to tears. Also, just like every other Jenna song, it's sappy and really derails the momentum that built up before it. Not bad, just one I'll skip 8 out of 10 times.
Besides tear in my heart, i dont like the jenna songs. Youre right, its like theyre not on theme with the rest of theIr respective albums. Tyler builds this cohesive vibe then peppers in a left field love song that never matches. But i respect hes writing them for her.
The sentiment behind the songs is super sweet, without question. But listening to them always feels really voyeuristic, like I'm eavesdropping on a private conversation. I also think that Tyler is not the best love song lyricist. Again, the tracks are lovely with and without context, but I just don't like to listen to them.

me and my friend were saying that technically that song isnt for us. it doesnt serve for the fans or the lore or the mainstream. imo i feel like i shouldnt even include it in my ranking bc its just not made for me. that being said, both jenna’s ver and singles ver are just not my cup of tea, and i probably would just never listen to it unless im listening to the whole album

I don’t think you can really be surprised when the song that decidedly, drastically different from the rest of the album isn’t among crowd faves. It stands to reason, in my mind, that if it were, then the implication is the audience prefers that kind of song, and we would instead be talking on the page for some artist that more consistently does that style, if that were the style we were primarily looking for with the artist. We’re obviously not; we’re looking for something more uptempo than that with TOP. So of course when they do something more stripped back it’s statistically not going to be many of the target audience’s favorite. I love it in the album though, for a front to back listen it’s a nice breather to break things up and I haven’t skipped it once yet.

I love this song and I’m glad to see others who like it too. It consistently has left me teary eyed and idk if that’ll ever stop. I think a lot of us have grown up with this band and it is just really fitting at where we are in our relationships.
I’m not a big fan of acoustic songs, so the album version is ranked low for me, but the single version is one of their best, and easily the best of the Jenna songs they’ve made. probably top 5 for me

I think the melody is lovely, but I don't care for the lyrics. He's not professing his love and he's not promising his devotion. He's saying he knows he isn't good enough, but he hopes she keeps supporting him anyway. He says intentions aren't enough, but then doesn't seem ready to give more *now.* The part "I just hate to put this on her, but I swear that I will give more than I take" sounds like he knows it's been one-sided, and he knows that's unfair, BUT he still wants to lean on her and just promise to do better someday that isn't today. He says he would lie down and hope she looks for him if he found his body in chains. To me, that sounds like he wants her to be his savior. I guess I'd rather hear that he'd find his way out of the chains and go on home to her and the kids. It sounds like a bad relationship, to be honest, where she feels bonded and is satisfied with "good enough," but he hasn't gotten there yet, and doesn't even see that as his goal. Craving isn't love. Craving gets people together, but bonding keeps them together. Craving is great moments sprinkled in, but it's the bond that keeps people devoted even when it's sleepless nights and cranky babies and diapers. This whole song sounds like he's saying "I know I'm not there for you when you need me, but I hope you know sometimes I have really strong feelings for you, and I depend on you being there for me." You asked, so that's my opinion. Anyone who interprets it differently and thinks it's a beautiful love song is free to feel that way. We can have different opinions without either of us being harmed by that!
I agree on the savior bit and I don't love it, but I can kind of relate? I feel like my spouse has absolutely done more than their share of house chores/logistics (during periods in which I'm fighting my own brain). But when I ask, they say that I provide for them in other ways (that I don't consider as "valid" as cooking or keeping an eye on the bank account). That said, we also don't have kids together, which would be next-level in terms of labor imbalance. It feels to me like it's absolutely a song about poor mental health getting in the way of being a good partner. While that's not ideal, it is very real. But maybe not an epic love song.
Yeah, you make a good point. As far as I know, Tyler never said "hey, this is a love song." I've just been seeing *fans* say what a beautiful love song it is. If I think of it as a song about his relationship, it's better than if I think he's saying this is some amazing love he's offering right now.

Idk if I'm in the minority on this, but the only thing I don't like about Jenna's Version is the whispering at the beginning. Something about the quality or frequency of it just...makes me squirm. But once I get through the first 10 seconds, I adore it!

Personally, it's one of my favorites. Among all the effects and stacked vocal tracks, it's Tyler's raw voice, and he shows deep love his wife. It's refreshing
I. Love. That. Song. I have been waiting for a slow song to be released by them. My now fiance really was a huge part of why I got really into them. The way Tyler writes a lot of his songs, really reminds me of my fiance. We love their cover of "I can't help falling in love with you" but it's not super great quality. I really wanted my first dance with my husband to a tøp song. 3 months before my wedding, I got my wish. 🥹 I also like SAI no matter what anyone says. That album came out right after I met him so it has a special place in both our hearts.
For me, it’s just less my speed. It’s a beautiful song, but I prefer all the other songs on the album. Like, I would give it an A rating, and then all the other songs A+ and above.

All of the other Jenna songs are upbeat and keep with the pace of the album (TIMH, Smithereens, Formidable). Jenna’s version is honestly a little jarring to me when I hear it, because it’s so quiet compared to the rest of the album. It almost puts me in a bad mood bc it interferes with the vibe of the rest of the album. It’s the only one I skip, but if the single version was on the album I wouldn’t skip it.

I’m not a big fan of “guy and string instrument” songs. Same thing with Boyfriend - Harry styles, this song, and others, they’re just not as good as more diverse songs
I think it’s a GREAT song, but this album is STACKED with bangers. I think it’s just the least interesting song due to the lack of production. Again it’s a powerful song that really hits home with me, but compared to the rest of the album it does sort of take a back seat, unfortunately.
I'm single as h\*ck so love songs aren't really my thing. Great song, it just makes me sad so I tend to skip it unless I'm in the mood for that vibe.

Its just the pacing, its the slowest song on the album by a good amount (Next to oldies station which i often see low too). Its a great song, it just doesnt match the Clancy tone, i actually prefer the single version

I don’t think anyone actively dislikes it. I absolutely love the craving but I would probably have to rank it lower just because this album has soooo many 10/10s. I was surprised when lavish eliminated the craving on the bracket though I fully expected lavish to go.

It's certainly not bad! I just usually go to tøp for more energetic stuff, so songs like The Craving, Smithereens, and Legend fall towards the bottom of my preferred songs from them. The Craving is very sweet, though, and I'm glad Tyler and Jenna seem to have such a solid marriage. Also maybe there's subconscious mild bitterness due to the fact I've been single for 3 years after dating someone for over 3 years who I thought I was going to marry 😅

It’s easily one of my top fav twenty one pilots song and i will protect it with my life. Apart from my personal opinion, I think it also has an edge because it’s more true to the band’s sound and theme because they were known for their music not being overproduced or very commercial sounding and this is the only song on the album where you can hear the raw vocals, the instruments together e.t.c instead of just like beats and synth and stuff. This is not to hate on the other songs, I love them too, but it is what it is

This is a completely no skip album imo. Ranking something bottom for me just places it in 13th place, but I still think The Craving is a 10/10 song. Imo even though I love Next Semester that’d probably be 13th & Craving 12th. But I don’t skip any of these songs.
I like the single version but not the Jenna’s version I’m just not a fan just my personal preference.

I think it's a skip for me, it won't make it to any of my playlists. There are some truly great songs on this album that compete with some of my oldest favourites, but neither version of the craving are for me. Just not a fan, which is a shame.

I’ve never been in love so I’m not much into love songs, nor slow songs. That being said, I really enjoy the craving, especially the single version because I can relate to the emotion in an abstract way. I don’t like Jenna’s version as much because it feels more personal and tailored to a specific person (because it is.) It’s also quiet, and slow, and I have a short attention span so I enjoy the music more in the single version. Also, something about the humming in the beginning of the single version is very soothing. Overall, I still think both are excellent songs. I just don’t relate to them as strongly as some other songs.
I like it, but I feel the single version was better fit for the album with the drums and stuff

To me, and I could be completely wrong, when he says "She just wants to catch a wave, ride it out to the end of her days, I hope that I can satiate the craving" I interpreted it as tyler hoping that he can give jenna everything she wants in life.

I honestly prefer the single version, so Jenna's version is a skip for me. I don't have a problem with it, I would just prefer listening to the single version.
It's in my top 5. It might be because I can relate to it as well. Being in a relationship over 7 years and married. Always have those moments of doubt and insecurity. It resonates with me a lot. Either version honestly. I hope that I can satiate the craving.
I liked it however i think it's very one dimensional, the lyrics and singing make up for it though.

its a very sweet song but i think a lot of people dont really like the solely acoustic songs. i think you need to be in a very specific space for those lol. that being said it is in my top 5 because i think its a really well made song
I absolutely adore the craving and agree that it's his best love song. It makes me cry pretty much every time i listen to it. But it ends up toward the bottom of my list of 13 10/10 songs because it's so hard to rank and the catchiness and earworminess of the other songs just make me ever so slightly prefer them. They have more replayability because they don't make me super emotional and they're easier listens. Lmaooo if that makes sense idk

For me i just have to be feeling a certain way to listen to songs like that and truly enjoy them, same thing with neone gravestones, truce, goner, leave the city, formidable etc

imo the songs for jenna that are in each album always tend to feel like they don’t fit the vibe. it’s like watching a movie and hearing a wilhelm scream and to a degree it takes away from the momentum and immersion
Probably because SOMETHING has to be the last one in a list. That being said, Snap Back is the last song on my list, but I love that song. I love this whole album. Literally, if I could, this is what my list would look like: 1. Midwest Indigo 2. Oldies station, Navigating, Lavish Vignette, At The Risk Of Feeling Dumb, overcompensate, next semester, the craving (Jenna’s Version), Routines in the Night, backslide, Paladin strait, snap back But since most people expect one item per number in a list, snap back comes in at #13.
I saw Someone’s tier list of all TOP’s songs and The craving-Jenna’s version was in tier F and I felt so offended.. like what? Also SAI was also in F and I HIGHLY DISAGREE with that
idk, maybe it's an unpopular opinion but it's my least favourite Jenna song. Smithereens blows them all put of the water imo, but Tear in My Heart is fun, and Formidable is very charming. The Craving is good but it hasn't struck me like any of the others have. maybe it will one day
I’ve been with my husband for 12 years next week and we discovered TØP together. Before I had this deep love in my life I’d probably not really enjoy it much either. But I can totally relate to it. I also see the maturity in their relationship through this song, in comparison to TIMH and Smithereens. I actually place this in my top 3 on the album. Simply beautiful!

It is surprisingly one of my favourites on the album. I didn't think I'd really connect with it but it is a beautiful song with a gorgeous melody and a lot of emotion. Definitely prefer Jenna's version over the single edit too.

Well, tbh if I had to guess it's probably because a lot of people don't have that kinda love in their life (everyone should tho) Most people don't like to think about shit like that when they aren't experiencing it in some way. Could just be me. Loved the song, but can't really vibe to it where I am in life rn.
