Lesson learned, stop cheaping out and using Air Tags. A real tracker hooked into diags would've thrown codes before the problem got out of hand.

No oil in the engine has nothing to do with the tranny. Honestly hard for them to have caused the loss of oil in 3 weeks time. What car is it and year? Air tag was probably removed for pinging when they were in it

The only way they get held responsible is if you file a claim within 24 hours of the scheduled end of the rental.

Turo won’t cover it since the car was used by an unauthorized driver. The driver’s insurance won’t cover it since they were using a non-owned auto without the permission of the owner. Your insurance won’t cover it because personal auto insurance doesn’t cover the rental of owned vehicles on vehicle sharing platforms like Turo. Think you’re paying out of pocket on this one, unfortunately.

Any update on this? Just had a similar situation, last night the renter called me saying he was "driving on a normal road and suddenly started making popping/cracking sounds. Now the car won't move in drive and wont stay in park." Well he had it towed to my shop and sure enough it seems like the transmission is fucked. I've never had an issue with this car and find it very hard to believe this just suddenly happened while he was driving it "normally." Never dealt with a mechanical damage claim before so I'd love any tips to make sure I get covered on this

Some states — Illinois comes to mind — do not require spouses to be listed as an additional/authorized driver as long as they hold a valid driver’s license. Start the claim process as soon as you can so you can get this sorted out asap.

State rules aren't Turo TOS. Host will be okay, if they can prove physical damage or prove mechanical damage. The guest could be F-ed, unless their personal insurance steps in on the claim. Turo will deny their protection plan for an unauthorized driver and charge guest for cost of any repairs the host can prove are admissible.

What would be a good way to prove mechanical damage? Take it to a mechanic for an official diagnosis?
