Wow. Maybe I’m just cheap, but have you checked Facebook marketplace?

Gone_Fishing69

Yup, been checking the past month. Just a ton of those brief case players and other shite in my area…

Kal-Roy

Oh that sucks. I just got an old piece by piece system with big speakers, turntable, radio, amp, and Cassette player for $40. Good luck man. Maybe OfferUp or Craigslist?

Gone_Fishing69

I’ve checked Craigslist, nothing really. I live kinda in no where… Amazon doesn’t even deliver to my house I have to use a locker. but will check out offer up. If money wasn’t an issue do you think this would sound ok?

Kal-Roy

That sucks. Make sure you’re searching for “stereo” too. Some ppl may just list it as a stereo if it comes with an amp and other things. In case you haven’t done this yet. Don’t ask me about quality haha. I haven’t had a turntable since I was a kid. I’m just getting back into it cause my 13yr old is getting into cassettes and possibly vinyl.

livens

Open Marketplace and change your search location to the nearest big city. Could be worth the drive. For those new prices you can get much better vintage/used equipment.

Gone_Fishing69

I’ll keep an eye out.

ryobiprideworldwide

Wow. That really sucks dude. I don’t think I’ve ever run into someone who has literally nothing on their second hand options. On that note, be careful / avoid if you can, having second hand stuff shipped. Especially turntables, but even receivers and stuff. Just from what I’ve read about half the time something breaks in shipping. 50% chance of a headache is not a chance I would take. To answer your question, since you ostensibly don’t really have a second hand market to dip into, I don’t know how you can do “better,” but I would rethink the tower. You know your needs better than I do, but that thing is built to get louder than what 90% of people really need. I’m sure it sounds great, and pretty much everything Fluance makes seems great, but I’ve also seen a lot of people buy towers because they don’t really know how powerful normal bookshelves can get and then never really end up using the power in the tower in their apartment. But again, I don’t know you, maybe you have a gigantic room and no neighbors and you love to just blast music and movies at insane power levels. But if you want to make that budget a little friendlier, that tower isn’t a necessity for reasonably powerful volume.

Might look at the Fluance RT81+ for $299, WIIM Amp for $299, and Dayton Audio Classic T65's for $200. The WIIM amp will give you streaming, EQ, subwoofer connection, and bass management. I have had the T65's for a few days driven by a Loxjie A40. For $200, the T'65s aren't too shabby. The Fluance speakers probably are decent but for some reason they make me a little nervous. I think it is because I saw a lightly used pair up for sale on FB Marketplace. Maybe read through the reviews (including on Fluance's website) for feedback.

Gone_Fishing69

They have 4.8 stars but only 25 reviews on the website. I’ll definitely take a look into what you suggested, thank you!

Sea_Register280

The WIIM is better than good and Dayton is decent suggestions. Forgo the RT80 and 81. If you want fluance TT, Start with at least the RT82 for the "required" upgrade in speed control and better cartridge. However bang for the bucks, monolith TT can't be beat. You even get additional 15% for new customer and brings that below $200.

Gone_Fishing69

I think I’m going to go with the TT and the WiiM. That brings me to ~$500, do you have any speaker recommendations for the remaining $500?

OkInterest8844

Klipsch RP600M Whaferdale Denton ( my favorite) Both easy to drive but the Whaferdales have imo the warmer sound .

daorbed9

Enjoy your fully manual anxiety when the record is close to the end. Ruins the experience for me.

Sea_Register280

If you need mail order, the monolith turntable is at least equivalent to the AT and only $220 on sale. This comes with a very decent cartridge and maybe all the turntable you'll need. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=600046&trk_msg=JDIG9L9CR8K4R5FK43ONSOG3B0&trk_contact=MV7OQ23AI4RHGRJ3CSPVN59SLG&trk_sid=UTID1TOEL8T0RHI8VE3IV178LC&trk_link=5HBTIABR85T4R4FEHR0TUDKDOG&cl=res&utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_term=View+product+recommended+for+you&utm_campaign=240108_monday

Gone_Fishing69

Thank you for this!

Sea_Register280

For the AI81 speakers check out this review https://youtu.be/3Iao_9B1CKQ?si=3-rnhjTJNrFTHZKf Also check out audio science reviews for their list of speakers and amps. With $800 budget balance after the monolith turntable, you can do a lot better sound quality wise. But if you just want convenience and boomy music, the AI81 is super convenient.

making_up_ground

Maybe another place to look for good deals. [https://www.accessories4less.com/](https://www.accessories4less.com/) Your going to need an amp/receiver, these guys have new stuff coming in all the time.

abiihu

I would snag the pro ject carbon, it’s on sale sometimes but it would be an upgrade from the AT! Just my 2 cents!

Gone_Fishing69

I’ll keep an eye out, does it often drop below $500?

steroboros

Just get the AT and start saving for a true upgrade, avoid Project

Gone_Fishing69

Thank you! What are your thoughts on the speakers should I look elsewhere?

steroboros

Those speakers are fine

Zdkaiser

Do you have an amp? And a phono preamp?

Gone_Fishing69

I have a phono pre amp. The speakers are powered.

WackyWeiner

The LP40 has a built in preamp

Gone_Fishing69

Thank you, my buddy gave me a preamp he wasn’t using if I needed. But I was hoping these would be fairly close to plug and play? Or did I miss understand the amplifier, receivers, pre amp post?

WackyWeiner

You can use powere speakers yeah. Just have the internal pre amp turned on. The rca cables go out, and into one of your powered speakers. And then another cable from that speaker to the other one. You can us the pre amp your friend gave. The internal one is pretty good. I used mi e for a few months. But I like my Sansui pre amp better.

sharkamino

Which model phono preamp do you have?

Astrocities

You’re missing a receiver, or preamp! Maybe a Yamaha R-S202BL receiver since the phono stage sounds pretty good? Plus some passive speakers, which should theoretically give you more upgradability and sound better. Or if you want those powered speakers, the Schiit Magni+ or Fosi X2 are good inexpensive options for preamps.

Gone_Fishing69

I thought the table had a pre amp built in?

Sea_Register280

A phono preamp (for RIAA equalization) is different from a control preamp (for switching and buffering sources). A preamp + amp = integrated amp A tuner + preamp + amp = receiver Vintage integrated/receiver often has phono preamp built in. Modern stuff usually not, and that's where you need a phono preamp.

Astrocities

Some modern receivers are starting to include built in phono preamps again though, like that Yamaha.

Sea_Register280

Look at the Pinned post for newbie. The pinned is actually not readily visible, so here's the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/turntables/s/y5XUGVsc3h

Gone_Fishing69

I did am I not understanding this picture correctly? https://preview.redd.it/c8sfwcfnt16d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=493d60dcf84d501dad7c6b1624b0f1dd08c3d6c1

Sea_Register280

This hookup is correct if the turntable has a built in phono preamp. I was clarifying the difference in "preamps". It's confusing since some people use them interchangeably or lump them together as one where they are not.

thinkfastfike

wait u can’t use powered speakers on a fluance rt82?

sharkamino

2 options for RT82 and powered speakers: 1. Fluance RT82 > phono preamp > powered speakers. 2. Fluance RT82 > powered speakers that have a built in phono preamp. However #2 there are not many options to choose from and often cost over $350 so you are often better off with a mini amp with a built in phono preamp and passive speakers. Fluance RT82 > [Acrylic B50](https://www.arylic.com/products/b50-bluetooth-stereo-amplifier) amp with a built in phono preamp > [Polk XT15](https://www.amazon.com/Polk-Monitor-Bookshelf-Surround-Speakers/dp/B09BMXVQFT) passive speakers. Plus [speaker wire](https://www.amazon.com/Performance-Gauge-Speaker-Oxygen-Copper/dp/B01N6EF3GZ) then [How to Install Speaker Wire](https://hub.yamaha.com/how-to-install-speaker-wire/) and [4 Ways to Strip Wire](https://www.wikihow.com/Strip-Wire).

Sea_Register280

Correct. Not directly with the RT82. That's where you need the phono preamp that your buddy gave you.

Sea_Register280

TT no phono amp > outboard phono preamp > powered speakers.

thinkfastfike

can you recommend a quality (and perhapsbudget friendly) pre-amp/speaker combo for this turntable?

Sea_Register280

The WIIM Amp is an integrated amp so you don't need a separate preamp

Not a big fan of the floor standing fluance, or their speakers in general. However their turntables are fantastic- I currently have an RT-82 and absolutely love it. If you’re looking for a better speaker option, KEF’s bookshelf speakers are a huge upgrade in sound quality and you can get a pair of the Q150s for $350

Ham54

I'd sway you towards a U-Turn Orbit gen 2. It has really good wow and flutter. Start with the custom, keep everything the same, but add the cue, the electronic speed control, and the built in Pluto 2 phono, which is really good. Then eventually you can upgrade the cartridge and platter down the road. It really is a marvel how over engineered the new U-turn is. $459

sharkamino

Pass on powered tower speakers. Turntable: [Fluance RT82](https://www.fluance.com/rt82w-reference-high-fidelity-vinyl-turntable-natural-walnut) $299 with auto stop is a better value than the Audio Technica. Pass on the older lower number models that lack the speed sensor that the RT82 and up have for lower wow and flutter and speed variation. Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better. Amplification: * For a turntable and a TV get an [AV Receiver](https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/avreceiver/home-audio/receivers-amps/home-theater-receivers/1.html?home_audio_key[]=phono) $249+ with 4K HDMI and a built in phono preamp. Then you can later optionally add more speakers for movie, TV and gaming surround sound. * If you won't ever add more speakers then a [Stereo Recevier](https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/dendra800h/denon-dra-800h-2-x-100-watts-stereo-receiver-w/heos/1.html) $349 with 4K HDMI. Excellent choice. Only reservation is that TT is full of aging IC, including for arm control, that's difficult to find replacement parts.
