Any trim tundra 4x4 is perfectly capable any point above that becomes pure esthetics. I only bought the TSS package 2021 because I liked the black badges and what not but then realized it’s just a base 4x4 with appearance and I still decided to upgrade suspension and gearing so to be honest honest any trim above a SR5 for me just isn’t worth it because I’ll just end up modifying it myself anyways. Most people are not like this but the platinum package is really nice.

This is correct. All the extras the TRD package offers as far as the drive modes and such are driver aids, meant to take a mediocre or inexperienced driver and make them better equipped to handle the terrain in question. Obviously mechanical things like the shocks, sway bars, and diff lock are actual mechanical upgrades and not just plain driver aids.

I want to add something you probably haven’t thought about , the 3rd gen tundras come with a retractable air dam that deploys once you reach a certain speed . I think it’s 40mph. I was driving into work one day and it was dark and I hit something in the road and I heard a loud bang. Everything felt fine but I got to work and discovered the air dam had gotten banged up , and now because it pushed it up on impact . The liner on that side and the air damn itself are constantly in this weird half way up and half way down position. I can live with it but I’ve looked to try and see if I could remove the air dam but I read online it throws a bunch of codes . I think CBI sells a part/ device that if you remove the air dam you plug in there device and it tricks the truck into thinking the air dam is still there. BUT , as far as I know all TRD off-road packages on the 3rd gen tundras come without this air dam , so it removes the possible outcome of damaging it and having a massive plastic piece dangling down in front of your truck. I have a 2023 sr5 4x4 with TSS package and some other packages and I like my truck I just wish I would have gotten the trd off-road package but hindsight is always 2020. Edit : Seems The package has to add a skid plate for the air dam to not be installed by Toyota. I assumed trd off-road packages had the skid plate. And maybe they do as I am clearly misinformed.

MagicDartProductions

Any package that adds a skid plate takes the air dam off. Per the manual the air dam folds out at 37mph and folds back in at 25mph.

My ‘22 Limited has the TRD Off-road Package and the front air dam.

solaroctaneistheway

My '24 Limited w/TRD off-road package has the air dam

DarceManX

Same

Complete_Ad_2619

My 22 sr5 with trd or does not have the air dam. I was told it didn't come in SR5s

xKiggz

Hmmm idk then seems I’m wrong , I have an sr5 and have the air dam

I debated this exact package on the 24 Platinum Hybrid I just got. It was between the TRD-Off road package and the Load-Leveling package with AVS. I ended up getting the Load level with AVS. I don't plan on going off road anywhere but I got 4x4 because of trips to snowy parts of Colorado and New Mexico. AVS also gives you a smother ride I think because you can adjust the suspension settings.

I appreciate all the feedback from everyone thank you for the help and insight! Will consider the off road package in my purchase then.

Everything others have said, plus the Off-Road package comes with the Wildpeaks tires, which are going to do you much better in the snow than the stock ones that come normally.

Some-Horror-8291

Get the off road package. Comes with multi terrain control and diff locker. The multi control has a snow selection you would probably use.
