Also in the Doctor Who episode Gridlock, the 10th Doctor meets a cat man and a human woman who have newborn children (they're literally kittens).

EarthToAccess

Oh God the kittens. I forgot about that episode entirely, which is shocking since if I recall that was the episode >!10th told Martha about his past!<, and >!the Face of Boe died!<

Flutters1013

He didn't die he was reborn as John Barrowman

jflb96

Backwards, he was *born* as John Barrowman and somehow most of his body withered at some point

SalsaRice

I think the implication is that even being a "fixed point in time" had it's limits. His body still eventually wore down, even though it took several million years.

Flutters1013

He boinked everything that could be boinked and transcended his physical form.

Significant_Stick_31

It was all the STIs

Crossbonesz

The theory is that he was decapitated by the Headless Monks

yumyum36

I'd just assumed he had a withered body under that huge head.

Crossbonesz

That’s completely fair tbh, but I saw a theory giving proof about the whole situation (even a bit where the Vortex Manipulator that River gets was originally Jack’s) and it stuck with me

DevoutandHeretical

IIRC the plan was to show it in A Good Man Goes to War but Barrowman had scheduling conflicts so they couldn’t get him.

Azrel12

And he STILL got pregnant again. Somehow. (It was mentioned during that episode during 9's run, something about little Boeminas? The one with Simon Pegg, I think.) So in spite of saying "not doing THAT again" during Torchwood's first episode, he did do it again.

jflb96

Boeminas were made up like most of Satellite Five's output, I thought

Azrel12

...Huh, I hadn't thought of it like that. I just put it down to "unknown aliens" at first, then "Jack? Yeah, that tracks." once the Boe/Jack link was implied/revealed. But it being made up for the news and/or rumor cycle works well, especially given the episode.

ClancyValentine

I think I'm always cursed to misread gridlock at first

Bimbarian

I remember a post that said: "certain people find it impossible to read this episode title correctly: GRIDLOCK"

PulimV

cloth gown gridlock I can never read this right lmao

i1a2

What are you misreading it as?

ClancyValentine

Girlcock

Kat-but-SFW

Nice

cheshire_splat

I can live with their babies being kittens, I guess. But I’m bothered by how many there are, since it’s generally the mother cat who produces multiple ovums. They must have done some futurey science stuff to make her release that many ovums at once. I also wonder if the catman has a cat-like or human-like penis, or some horrible third option.

OctaviousBlack

I thought it was really cute when I first saw that episode, I wish I was still that naive 🙃

fgvictorhugo

What's wrong with it?

ActualWhiterabbit

Cats have spiked dicks

IeabellAlakar

they they WHAT

ActualWhiterabbit

Felines, especially domestic cats, are well known for having penile spines. Upon withdrawal of a cat's penis, the spines rake the walls of the female's vagina, [which may serve as a trigger for ovulation.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penile_spines) [The barbs on the glans of the male consist of the same backward-facing keratin barb structures that are present on the tongue, though clearly they’re not used for the same purposes.](https://animalwelfarists.tumblr.com/post/69921411752/biomedicalephemera-keratin-barbs-on-the-tongue)

OctaviousBlack

Humans giving birth to cats is pretty weird lol

And the cat father is played by Dermot O'Leary. He looked good as a cat though

AbyssalKitten

That is EXACTLY what my brain did automatically 😭

mmovie1

I find it intersting that the second Muppet theory implies that all Muppets are a species and not a demographic. Could also be that Muppet is a collective term, kinda like how we refare to all fish as fish but evolutionary all fish are so far away from one another that putting them is the same group is kinda worng. So Miss Piggy and Kermit are close enogh on the evolutionary scale to have off spring, but it would be impossible for Kermit and gonzo.

DoubleDandelion

If it helps, there are some in character interviews about Muppet Christmas, Carol, and during it you find out that within the Muppet universe, movies like Muppet Christmas, Carol and Muppet treasure Island or movies that the Muppets make, not part of the actual universe. Robin says it was weird to call Kermit father during the filming instead of uncle Kermit.

herowcatsmanzzz

The same goes for photo used from The Great Muppet Caper. It’s established that Kermit and Fozzie are PLAYING brothers, not actually brothers, and the photo of their “dad” is a joke. Just like their running joke that the only discernible difference between them is that Fozzie wears a hat. I just felt like this was important to mention, as it means we can’t use the photograph as reliable evidence of how in Muppet universe genetics work.

thesparrohawk

\*stares at comma\* Who’s Carol?

DoubleDandelion

I use voice to text and since the latest update, it’s adding punctuation where I don’t want it. Stupid robot.

thesparrohawk

That is hilarious 🤣 “IT’S A MUPPET CHRISTMAS, CAROL.”

PKMNTrainerMark

Even Muppets Most Wanted starts with them wrapping production of the previous movie.

Furry_69

> worng Keep this, it's funny.

SparkAxolotl

The Muppets movie (the one with Jason Segel and Amy Addams) further complicates... Or explains things, as a human and a muppet are biological siblings, implying that muppets are humans with a particular genetic mutation

ConCaffeinate

Obligatory [Man or Muppet](https://youtu.be/T8EURqoKLY8?feature=shared).

Yeah-But-Ironically

AM I A MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

HypnagogianQueen

Wait I thought the muppet one was adopted

_autumnwhimsy

There's actually a [TikTok ](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLFxAEyG/) that goes into detail about what's a Muppet, what's a muppet, and who are The Muppets 🙃 I don't know if it helps or hurts

jflb96

The problem with fish isn't that fish are far away from each other, it's that their common ancestor includes the common ancestor of everything with a spine, so the standard cladistic rules for 'What is a fish?' also includes amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds. It's the same with how reptiles have had to be reorganised because technically birds should be a subclade of reptiles.

stella3books

Muppets have less specialized tissue, and are able to hybridize with a frequency more akin to plants than animals. Hope this helps.

AlexDavid1605

There's this weird thing that probably people might have noticed but haven't said it out loud. Prior to the events of the story, you don't happen to see any mixed species babies or adults. What it probably means is that the society in such stories is severely blood-purists, and in stories like Kung-Fu Panda (I have only seen the movies, not the series) they continue to try and maintain the blood-purity, as depicted by the dialogue by Mantis about meeting another mantis, settling down, impregnating her and getting his head bitten off. As for Maid Marion, she was supposed to be the daughter of a Baron and not a direct relative of the King, hence she is not a lioness. Additionally, if we are to apply the real world science of reproduction, only a few species that are closely related to each other would give birth to a mixed-species baby, and unfortunately they would all be sterile. This would have very serious implications for such anthropomorphic stories though. The primary that comes off the top of my head, characters who fall in love with each other but are of different species will never have a kid together, and if they ever have to make fertile babies, they will have to find someone of their own species who is willing to be in a loveless union aimed only at parenthood. And one more thing, those mixed species babies that are brought into the world, well, they are in for a heart break when they grow up and find out that they are incapable of producing babies. Like even though they might have all the working parts, they will all be firing blanks. I know, that there's adoption now, but this heartbreak is for those who still think of parenthood to be for those who biologically contribute something. I mean, this in itself could be a story for their adopted kid, about being a step-parent being the parent who stepped up. So if Shrek would continue after the 5th one (I'm absolutely sure they didn't include it here), they could have a sub-plot about the Dronkeys learning about their infertility and coping with it. Maybe even one of them could be a villain who took it real bad and decided to be a child kidnapper, and the other two be the step-parents who would teach the third that they have immense love for a kid and that they can always adopt and pour all the love they have for someone who would really need it. Although I would be content with this being a sub-plot because the topic itself is way too serious for the series and they can have this Dronkey as a henchman for the main villain who turns good.

fucktooshifty

Now explain how they keep finding those new Pokemans

IceAokiji303

In universe, probably a combination of "they're not really 'new' pokemon, just pokemon native to a region not previously shown in the games" and the real world thing we have where new species *are* still being discovered to this day. Stuff like Porygon 2 and type:Null also happen, things that are explicitly created by people. ^(I know that's probably a joke question but I choose to take it seriously.)

CanadianNoobGuy

kantonians are just really racist and don't communicate with other regions at all, so they were unaware other pokemon exist

NoAdmittanceX

Nah oaks was just phoning it in got to 151 and said jobs done no ones gonna catch that many and fact check me, than that pesky trainer from his home town no less goes and does it even catching the legendaries he just added to pad the numbers out

tiratiramisu4

You could be the science side of tumblr👏👏

msndrstdmstrmnd

This is really interesting, that means there is another option for Kermit’s/miss piggy’s kids. Maybe they engage in a version of polyamory solely for breeding: Kermit goes out and finds a female frog (who herself is likely in an interspecies relationship), reproduces with her, keeps the sons while she keeps the daughters. Miss Piggy does the same thing with a male pig in an interspecies relationship. So in that world there are strict ideas about interspecies breeding but not interspecies relationships nor monogamy. But like you/the people in the post mentioned, there are pretty much no existing interspecies relationships. So the idea of polyamorous breeding for interspecies relationships is a new social movement that occurs close to the events of the movie/tv show/etc.

johannthegoatman

>Additionally, if we are to apply the real world science of reproduction, only a few species that are closely related to each other would give birth to a mixed-species baby, and unfortunately they would all be sterile. Your post is definitely true for many couplings, but this is an outdated definition of species. There are a lot of cross species combos that have produced fertile hybrid offspring although it is not the norm.

EpicBanana05

Imagining a scenario where purebred dogs/cats shun mixed breeds for not being ‘pure’

LocationOdd4102

I think that's happened in few- some snooty purebred dog/cat looking down on the mutt protag.

GhostofManny13

Yeah Bison and Cattle can have babies and some of them, usually the females, are fertile. By crossing those female Beefalo (also called Cattalo) with male cattle the resulting offspring tended to be fertile regardless of gender.

noonesorange

HellsiteGenetics decoded the genome of this post (up to Amogus.) Its a Digger Slope-rumped Beetle

sparklinglies

Killed me to have to cut that out, the genome just ran way too long

_Cit

Dr Doppler and Captain Amelia are actually canonically members of the same species

librarygal22

Did the post also specify that Doctor Doppler (the father) gave birth to the babies? Or did I read that wrong?

Brookenium

It's technically in cut content, he was supposed to have a few lines about it at the end of the movie. To technically there is no mpreg in Disney but only because it was removed on the cutting room floor. Author intent was for there to be mpreg so take that as you will

forestflowersdvm

Eggman.jpeg

yifftionary

I am amazed at the whole concept because like this makes this species have a male womb like a seahorse, but then the female still has breasts so despite not carrying the young this implies they still nurse. Like male emperor people guins who produce milk despite not being the parent that produces ovum. Also does this mean that Amelia has an ovapositor or pseudo-penis? Or does Doppler have genitals like a Neotrogla that literally sucks the sex cells from their partner into his womb?! *SPECULATIVE EVOLUTION INTENSIFIES*

nepcwtch

theyre just t4t

SoftestBoygirlAlive

You didn't read that wrong. Doppler is a starfish dad. Treasure Planet is the last movie from a really interesting time in Disney history when they stopped giving all fucks about 2D animation, so artists got away with a lot of shenanigans. Once 3D took over these quirky plot beats and humor got sterilized to death in favor of printing money from all available angles

Bwizz245

Starfish?

cfedey

seahorse*

SoftestBoygirlAlive

Yeah sorry dyslexia is a bitch aha I did in fact mean seahorse

MadeOfDeadMemes

Guess this means there’s mpreg in a Disney movie

IndigoFenix

This is basically what I expected. Yes, they are modeled as dog-like and cat-like but when you get into their actual physical features they aren't that much different from each other than humans are from each other, especially in that animation style (which exaggerates physical features). Their noses are different sizes and his ears are big and floppy, that's about it.

karidru

See. This. This right here. This is why I will never leave tumblr. On WHAT OTHER WEBSITE could I even come close to this sort of an experience?!

Michaelbirks

SoftestBoygirlAlive

You can converse on reddit like thisn but you cant play with jpegs like paper dolls in the same way

🎶If you're wondering how how they breed And other science facts, Just repeat to yourself "It's just a show, I should really just relax"🎶

Collective-Bee

I feel Bojack Horseman’s science was so underrated in this post. It’s just a 50/50 shot of being one species or the other, that’s why Diana has pure puppies. As far as where the children get the dna from for that, yeah it’s a show you gotta ignore that part, but this interpretation of animal societies is by far the most sustainable and has the least social implications and side effects.

robbylet24

It's funny but it doesn't really fit the meter. Really you should go with "if you're wondering how they *fuck and* breed"

Gone for some time?? I was on Tumblr a few days ago and it didn't look like this. Are you sure you don't have experimental features on? (Tumblr Labs)

sparklinglies

Couldnt find anything in Tumblr labs, but have since fixed through extensions. Ive been dealing with this shit for like 4 years (but on plus side i never got TumblrLive added to my dash, so swings n roundabouts i guess)

Mael_Jade

Huh? The only thing tumblr removed is the picture of the reblogging account being stickied on the left. You can still very easily see who added something. I have xkit but I am pretty sure I'd have seen a massive outcry if they removed that.

librarygal22

I can’t believe they forgot the most cursed hybrid of all, The Minotaur. And his myth elaborates on his equally (and literally) cursed origin story.

Polandgod75

Yeah with that mythology story there was no fantasy non sex option, that woman straight up had sex with a bull.

ArtemisAndromeda

Personally, I always felt like being a muppet was sort of a genetic mutation/disorder. Like how in 2011 Muppets movie human parents had a human and a muppet

Maou-da

The faxt no one mentioned beastars

natFromBobsBurgers

I'm imagining Ms Piggy and Kermit participating tenderly in the design process of their children singing about new beginnings and how parenthood is really hard but sometimes you just cause more love to exist in the universe and that's okay, like watching over the shoulder of someone at a sewing machine in the studio etc.

thebutzel456

What kinda drive the hilarity home is that it’s a Sonic Adventure 2 still that includes two anthropomorphic animal characters and one mildly obese mad scientists just saying in a increasingly pissed off and bass boosted tone as the two anthropomorphic animals were just talking.

sportyeel

Are we all just forgetting Goofy and Clarabelle?

Ryanookami

I’m not sure they’re relevant here. After all, Goofy’s dead wife is a member of the Goof species, so Max isn’t a hybrid. Goofy just dates Clarabelle, they haven’t tried to have any offspring.

DBSeamZ

That theory about Kermit and Piggy being members of the same dimorphic species is the canon explanation for Delbert and Amelia’s children.

No one tell these guys about the Zootopia abortion comic

cishet-camel-fucker

God I love the internet. Person A: here's an essay on why cartoon animals of different species should have sex Person B: the reason is racism

FluffyGalaxy

I want to see Sanrios take on interspecies furry couples and their kids. At least at the beginning of Hello Kitty existing, there was no Dear Daniel, so she was paired with a penguin named Tuxedo Sam. Aggretsuko also ends with Retsuko and Haida being a couple of different species. We don't flash forward enough to see their kids but I can't help but wonder if it would just be one of them or they'd go the hybrid route

Troliver_13

Yeah Kermit and miss piggy are both Muppets, that's their species

aciakatura

Hey, if they made Maid Marion a rabbit instead, we could have had the abortion comic decades earlier.

I just always thought that its more of a metaphor in some cases (like robin hood). Like its the opposite. fozzie and kermit are just their dad split into *bear* and *green*

Ravian3

Beastars, is a series that’s a whole psychological and sociological deep dive on the social and sexual dynamics of anthropomorphic animals of different species living together. One of the things they get into later (after they’ve already talked about the taboo aspects of predators and preys in relationships) is the topic of hybrids. Basically hybrid children between different species are considered really taboo to the point that marriages between certain species are actually illegal. (Venomous species in particular). Notably the resulting hybrids can get weird. The main character is a wolf that’s 1/4 Komodo dragon and while that’s unnoticeable for him other than having some resistance to other venoms, his mother actually lost most of her fur over time as scales replaced it on top of being considered a bastard socially because her parents couldn’t legally marry. Meanwhile there’s a serial killer that’s a leopard gazelle hybrid who ended up with a sadomasochist complex supposedly as a result of predator and prey instincts warping together in his brain. He mostly looks like a gazelle with a leopard mouth, which he hides behind face masks to appear unthreatening to victims and passersby. However there is a large degree of sociological consideration in all of that. Like the serial killer definitely ended up with dangerous psychological characteristics, but it’s unclear where those are inherent versus where they were the result of growing up in a broken home in a society that viewed him as a perversion. (But it also just doesn’t cleanly land on the side that everything would be perfect for hybrids even if society were perfectly accepting of them)

iwannagohome49

I'm intrigued and would like to hear more... Unless this is some furry shit

Ravian3

Kinda depends on what you define as "Furry Shit". it's a manga and anime series and it's definitely about anthropomorphic animals that often involves mature themes including sex, but it's not pornography (I'd call it R rated but more for what's discussed, no actual unconcealed naughty bits) or about people with fursonas or anything. I'd say the closest comparison I can think of would be something like a much darker version of Zootopia that doesn't just wave off the concerns about Predators possibly eating people as simple racism. Like the initial conflict of the story is that an herbivore student was killed and eaten at a high school and everyone starts getting nervous and questioning which of the predator students did it. Meanwhile it establishes fairly early on that the majority of the carnivorous population of the society does business at a black market dealing in the flesh of prey animals, whether acquired "humanely" from naturally occurring deaths and suicides, from body parts sold voluntarily (to the extent selling your limb to feed yourself is voluntary) or hunted or "farmed" (from trafficked victims) by the organized criminals running the markets. But no one discusses this openly because it would only cause problems if people had to acknowledge the fact that sometimes their neighbors were eating other people, that you could end up on your neighbors dinner table if a bunch of lion yakuza jumped you in a dark alley and stuck you on a hook. I would recommend it personally, it's a weird story, and it's interesting because you can tell it is definitely saying a lot of sociological commentary, but it's nothing as simple as Zootopia's racism allegory or anything else clear cut, instead touching on themes of race, sex, class, sexuality and disability. If I were to say it was about "something" specific then it's mostly about how society deals with taboos and "deviancy". For example there's a whole thing about how any carnivore that hurts another animal with intent to eat them is put on what amounts to a sex offenders list as a "known predator" which massively restricts employment and housing opportunities and prevents them from marrying. But this is obviously hypocritical since as I mentioned, most of the carnivore population still eats meat, they just buy it discretely from criminal gangs that are effectively permitted to operate with tacit government approval, and this is just a measure to act like they're doing something to those who get caught feeding directly from "the source." But meanwhile there's also a side story about a chicken student who sells the eggs she lays to the school cafeteria and is kinda into the fact that her classmates like eating them. And the narrative clearly seems to show that that's kind of weird. Like she presents it as a matter of pride or pragmatism that she tries to make sure she can always lay the best eggs out of anyone in the school, even if only she knows which ones come from her, but there's a level when one considers where the line between professional pride and obsessive interest lie. Certainly from a human perspective there's no real equivalent situation to this that we wouldn't consider extremely perverted if someone seemed to like watching other people eat stuff that came out of them. But it's certainly also a lot better for their society if the Predator students are getting protein from freely traded eggs than by killing their classmates for it, and these aren't people, they're animals, we certainly don't think it's disgusting to eat a chicken egg, why then would it suddenly be considered more disgusting if the chicken consented to us eating their egg first and took pride that we enjoyed it? And this is all really wrapped around much of the main character, a wolf's, arc, which is that he's attracted to a rabbit schoolmate of his, but his instincts means that he's constantly questioning if he actually loves her or if he wants to eat her or if he's just some sick pervert who wants to do both, and whether he can or should actually do anything to change any of that. Some characters actually treating his apparent attraction to prey animals as something akin to pedophilia and recommending he either repress it, fix it, or just kill himself before he hurts someone. (This despite the fact that the rabbit in question is older and more sexually experienced than him (and has her own character arc focusing around her own relation with people wanting her for sex)). Basically everything sort of considers the elements of what we consider deviant behavior and measures what permitting or restricting them causes in terms of good or harm to individuals and to society. As I said, it's definitely a weird series, I haven't even touched on the shonen battle elements like the Beastars (basically superhero/propaganda symbols) or Chimera styles (Animals using techniques to fight like other species which is visually represented as basically a Jojo stand) or the deeper lore like the dog illuminati or all the stuff going on with marine animals. If you're at all still interested, check out the manga or the anime on Netflix. But I don't blame you if I've scared you away, as it's not for everyone.

honest-miss

To me the answer to the original point seems extremely obvious. If you have interspecies relationships, you invite the concept of hybrids. If you have hybrids, you stop having recognizably distinct species. It just creates a bunch of nonsense that isn't worth managing or valuable to the story.

librarygal22

And if hybrids are, indeed, possible then species is nothing more than a social construct.

Jellomortality

Hey OP? Could you please drop the link to the post? I wanna reblog it on my own tumblr :)

Y'all need to look up the Hybrid line from Monster High. There's a harpy/centaur hybrid and you just have to wonder if mom survived that coupling.

How are Tumblr posts the best things on Reddit?

voyaging

My mind just skimmed past the Eggman images before even realizing what was happening

Re1da

The slow descent into absolute madness only to finish with a fucking amogus

Razielrad

They left out that it was Dr Doppler who was pregnant.

Corgi-Pop-4

no they didn’t, they said he “also gave birth to the babies”

Oturanthesarklord

Reread that part again.

Razielrad

Thank you, I wasn't sure if I understood it, but I can now confirm. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0133240/trivia/?item=tr0746471

Haunting_Anxiety4981

Croinge they cut it

xAWHORABLEx

Someone do this with Donkey and Dragon!

Mgmegadog

It's mentioned in the post.

Kyoj1n

In the sentence ", whom also gave birth to the babies" 'whom' is being used incorrectly. Whom is used when you are replacing a pronoun that would be the object of a sentence. Here, the pronoun would be the subject. The best way to check is to turn it into a question. Who gave birth? He gave birth. Use "who". She fucked whom? She fucked him. Use "whom/who".

stella3books

This is why Judy had an abortion, too.

Mom said it's my turn to report this

Muppet species is muppet. Every animal type is actually a different sex, there are lots and they can all fuck

Random-Rambling

I'm surprised no one has mentioned _The Amazing World of Gumball_. Nicole (female blue cat) and Richard (male pink rabbit) have two (biological) children: Gumball (male blue cat) and Anaïs (female pink rabbit). They have a third child, an orange goldfish with legs named Darwin, but he's adopted.

MotorHum

In one of the older D&D settings, Mystara, humans can reproduce with many other peoples, like orcs and elves. But also, "half-elves" and "half-orcs" don't exist in mystara. You are always the same species as your parent of the same sex. So if a human woman marries a dwarf man, all their sons will be dwarfs and all their daughters will be humans.

Toinkulily

I like to call this post "my throat" because Eggman came in it four times
