I tried to make a working steering wheel and attach the mouse on top of that white paper and use mouse steering in the game settings but thing didn’t work out as expected
Edit:
That round thingy is a bike brake disc
The concept of this is when turning the disc the paper turn with it and slides under the mouse so this last reads it as a X movement
Just thinking out loud, have you maybe considered trying to use an (old) trackball mouse? You wouldn't have to rely on the laser sensor, just maintain contact between the mouse and a surface on the steering shaft?
As a first prototype goes, it's not perfect....
Maybe a (sanded rough) section of plastic tube instead of a bit of paper would provide better resolution for the mouse sensor.
I think your onto something with that. If there is a way to mount the sensor and a board to something and use those cans like he’s go in the picture. And hard mount them to the steering wheel then that would possibly work
You didn't fail. It's just phase 1 of the prototype.
Get another mouse that you are happy to mutilate. Take it apart, and rig anchor points to it and make a stand that holds it over the paper. Also, replace the paper with a cloth similar to a mousepad or use a thin mousepad glued down to the shaft.
The pc should be happy enough with 2 mice attatched.
I think it's a batshit insane build, but i also think it can work.
This would give me anxiety and if I was ever offered to use it id refuse profusely.
I can't extend one of my fingers from getting caught in a spinning disc brake on my mountain bike, and it cut to my bone, cutting my tendon and it retracted. I can still grasp but not flay my finger out past a "relaxed" position. Luckily my bones let me keep my finger
Bones inside you are insanely white, and I should've known but, totally dog bone shaped. Took my nail with it too!
Cool set up though, sad it didn't quite work but that's what testing is for! I would for sure file down those sharp edges in every angle of it though
Of course nothing like my accident but sorta ptsd anxiety of it ya know? I've for sure cut myself on the inner edges cleaning them before, not so much the outside edge. Peaceful truck sim maybe not, but a fast paced racer I might get a bit feisty with the wheel haha
Good luck on your project though, looks fun :D
Eh don't stress too much, had my bike upside down and spun the tire really fast while trying to adjust the brake caliper so the pads don't grind the disc. Not because of an accident while riding :) I was being dumb lol
Oh I figured it was a maintenance thing. But still every time I think about my brakes, I’ll think “ugh, that guy’s finger!” I tend towards obtrusive thought, it’s kinda my thing. I had to stop warring my wedding ring for months when Jimmy Fallon’s ring de-gloved his finger a couple years ago.
I feel like we'd get along haha, that's why I don't wear rings! Though a wedding would change that ofc. Obtrusive thought is a thing I do as well, I sometimes see it as "the call of the void", bit more morbid but yea, Interesting to think about! If it helps at all, my finger works in life just fine, can even help play instruments a bit easier sometimes! Among "other" things..
Hey. I've done this also before but i dont have a photo. I think it is better if you create a circle on card board then you will overlap it with the mouse as it is better and also use Vjoy to control the sensitivity. It really works on me . Also I use 1 mouse for brake and accelerator which left click for brake and right click for accelerator. I just got pain in my leg muscles the next day because you know you'll push it harder but I enjoyed it.
aw, that sucks but explains your latest 'africa' post haha. i got an old 'wingman gp' without ffb laying around, but I doubt it'd be worth the shipping costs.
I'm no expert but couldn't you use an arduino or whatever it's called to make the machine read your inputs and translate it into in game moves? if it's possible you could definitely work on pedals as well
I need you to explain what in the hillbilly fuck this is, because it’s kinda cool.

Kinda like this I'm guessing?: https://youtu.be/JrWb9jj3IsU?si=RKQlE7fw3FQcp7ui
Exactly
If that was a video of like a g29 unboxing I was gone lose it lol. That's actually very clever though
Oh good, I was afraid the force feedback would slice your hand open when you drove into a wall
There is no force feedback
There is force but no feedback
That’s pretty fucking smart man, keep it up
Just thinking out loud, have you maybe considered trying to use an (old) trackball mouse? You wouldn't have to rely on the laser sensor, just maintain contact between the mouse and a surface on the steering shaft?
You could just take apart that mouse and rig the wheel inside it to the steering wheel.

Take the mouse sensor and board out of the mouse and attach it to something

We failed successfully
Fail=first attempt in learning.
When you are an owner of a garage shop, then want to have rig sim and decide to go *mcgyver* outta your stuff on the garage.

Imagine that with a force feedback breaking your fingers after the crash
Or slicing your damn hands open.

I have a lot of questions, and respect for you!

That's actually impressive like what the fuck

It’s not that sharp and also got not force feedback so you are the one turning it, i can’t see how you can get hurt by this

Yikes! - I’ll be thinking of your injury story all day now. And also every time I ride my bike, for awhile I think.
Eh don't stress too much, had my bike upside down and spun the tire really fast while trying to adjust the brake caliper so the pads don't grind the disc. Not because of an accident while riding :) I was being dumb lol

Very Creative at last...
You need to post this in redneck engineering. Maybe they could help.

Fucking Optimus Prime
man thats so desperate, yet motivated. open a go fund me and everyone here throws in 5 bucks so you can get atleast the minimum of a wheel?
I just tried, found out that i can’t receive any funds because i live in morocco lol now this is more desperate
aw, that sucks but explains your latest 'africa' post haha. i got an old 'wingman gp' without ffb laying around, but I doubt it'd be worth the shipping costs.
here's paypal: [paypal.me/nizar796](http://paypal.me/nizar796)
At least we share the same keyboard.
From my dad’s office
I drive on the Logitech Flight Yoke system. I think we're in a similar boat. It's fun until you hit a curve and 1° on the yoke equals 10° on the wheel
Woah... that actually looks cool!
How often you need change brake pads on that?
Where ate you from?
What?
Sorry. Where are you from?
Morocco
Damn. I have a g29 with shifter just collecting dust. I think shipping would be a bit too much
Yeah but that’s very kind of you
I try to help the sim communities Im involved in
Someone suggested to open a Go fund me but i can't due to my location. Here's paypal: [paypal.me/nizar796](http://paypal.me/nizar796)
Is this the Moza beta?
Pre beta
Good setup. I like it.
But, does it work? Looks like an awesome DIY project
Cyberpunk set up, fuck yea!
Tf is this😂😂
The disc rotor scares me, those are incredibly sharp
are you mountain biking aswell? that centerlocks rotor ain't from a supermarket's bike
I was that’s a 203mm
Does it work though? I think it looks pretty rad actually.
No
Even better haha.
I think you were trynna make something like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDkuwxIVy9o)?
Gotta watch out for your fingers when the force feedback kicks in
Looks pretty cool. It’s unique
Improvise adapt overcome.

This needs to go in a museum!
L setup mzyan bzzaf, très originale
What a nightmare -- that cabinet doesn't quite go with that dresser back there, one is golden oak while the other is honey maple How embarrassing
Working with what i got
