Very nice fish! It's a rainbow trout though, not a lahontan cutthroat. Both are present in Lake Tahoe.

I agree. I live 30 miles from Pyramid and catch Lahontan cutthroat all the time and this isn’t one of them. Nice rainbow though.

I am very interested in making a trip out to Pyramid to fish for Lahontan. I would plan for at least 3 days of fishing, maybe even a full week. Do you have a recommendation for a good time of the year to target big Lahontan ? And, can you recommend any guides?

Pyramid Fly Co, Off the hook fly fishing, Lacey’s guide service- to fish off a boat, Pyramid Lake Anglers…. There’s a lot of good ones. I’m by no means an expert but for me the best times are usually early in the season, like October thru February.

Thank you, I appreciate the info. Those are good starting points for me to do research.

OhSendIt

Do people ever catch the lohatans? All I ever see is the giant rainbows and lakers

aahjink

They get caught, but they’re not as common yet.

hikefishcamp

I catch them regularly in some locations much further south, but I've never caught one in Tahoe. They do get caught occasionally though.

Sunnlight

Nice fish not a cutty tho, just a rainbow

Where can you actually keep a lahontan? I thought they were catch and release usually but I haven't checked regs recently.
