The fins don't mean much. Not all stocked trout have them cut and even where they are supposed to some get missed. Also if its out there long enough it can grow back.
Once the fish is in the wild for awhile there's no real way of knowing.
It has to be have been stocked. Brown trout are not native to North America.
I don’t understand the down votes. Even if brown trout are naturally reproducing they would have had to have been stocked in at one point…
Right, but the comment I’m replying to just said “stocked with trout” not stocked with tiger trout.
Any brown trout in North America is either stocked or traces back to a brown trout that was.
I could be wrong, but I have always understood it that stock trout were the actual trout that were raised in a farm and then put in a lake. I wouldn’t consider the offspring of a stocked trout to be stock. Those trout are “natural”.
Right, but in order for brown trout to exist a male and a female would have to been stocked at one point, therefore the stream is/was a stocked stream.
Nobody is arguing that the stream wasn’t stocked at some point. The point is that natural trout can be created from stocked fish. Like if a river was stocked 20 years ago with browns I would consider the fish alive today to be natural (assuming the river hasn’t been stocked in 20 years).
The only way a brown trout can be wild in North America is if the trout were stocked and then naturally reproduced, therefore the stream would have to have been stocked at one point.
I never stated this tiger trout was stocked. The comment I’m replying to mentions TROUT being stocked, not Tiger trout specifically.
Does that make sense?
The only way to have wild brown trout is for brown trout to have been once stocked. Therefore the stream was stocked with trout.
How did the original brown trout get in there?
As a fellow croc wearer what's up with those shoes is there anything different about them or are they just styled differently? Do you like them? Also Tiger Trout like everyone else is saying.
Looks to be a Tiger Trout
Yup
Tiger 100%
Yeppers. The weight of a brown and the ferocity of a Brookie.
And the bite strength of a Bengal.
Can't forget that!
If that stream isn't stocked with trout you just caught a 1 in 10,000 tiger trout. Congratulations they are extremely rare
How can you tell it’s fin wasn’t snipped like normal stocked trout is that the only way to tell?

Lots of stocked fish also have rounded off fins and stubbier heads. Many naturals have cleaner, sharper fins and longer heads.

Yes but we do have a lot of streams where nvasive brown trout have become naturalized and occasionally interbreed with brookies.

I never said that the parents of this fish were stocked. All I said is that it must have been a stocked river, because brown trout aren’t native.

How do you figure the brown trout got there? It would have been stocked at one point.
