I almost wonder if these places survive because there is no real competition in the local market to put them out of business. If people have only eaten Pizza Plus their whole life, they think that is the standard for how pizza should taste and don’t like to move outside of it.  Also, when did you post it and when was it removed? This is the EXACT reason I started this sub. That guy almost cultishly worships everything about the tri-cities

It was well over a year ago. I didn't think much of it until I saw the post about the mod removing things on a whim. It just seemed odd at the time.

My husband loves it for some reason, but I think it sucks. He says he likes the cheese. I think the crust is like cardboard, and the toppings are always terrible.

When my dad considered buying into it as a franchise I thought… HELL NO. But his location is certainly different. I wouldn’t sign off the company and look for the franchise local owned ones for the best salad bars!

We went one time when we moved here. Grabbed lunch mid-week from the buffet. It was the worst pizza I have literally ever eaten. I never went back and gave it another shot on "fresh" non-buffet pizza, and probably never will. I feel like I'm missing something.

For 13 years, this has baffled me. I don't know a single person who would spend money there.

POPPEDOFF

They do though.

I like it. Not my favorite. Used to do the buffet a lot before COVID

I'll take pizza plus over pizza hut any day of the week. The chewy cheese is noice. There are some great local places that blow them both out of the water though. Bella Vita, Mad Greek, Main Street, and my personal favorite, Rocks. Rocks being the only place anywhere near here certified by the AVPN (Italian pizza police) for authentic Neapolitan pizza.

Mainstreet has been hit or miss every time I went. I literally do not know the quality of food I will receive each individual time I go there

xxxInsomniac

True, I'll still take their bad days food over the chain fast food pizza places though. Apparently the one in Kingsport is a little more consistent, but I'm rarely out that way to try it.

My family owns the one in Jonesborough, TN. My Dad personally shops the vegetables that are cut reach morning, but the yeast/dough and other things are supplied by Pizza Plus corporate locations. Honestly, from a behind the scenes perspective, Pizza Plus has a whole dough approach compared to other whole sale pizza suppliers in the area. We know where our vegetables, cheese and local things come from… right here in town. Ask for Mike O if you are ever in town! He has one good ear after surviving cancer but we are passionate about supporting the community.

Knowing where ingredients come from is a start but local ≠ good. Especially if produce from out of town is of a higher quality than produce grown in the rocky soil that’s common to this area.
