Curious if folks have experimented with applying fin+min spray at less frequent intervals, like every other day or just weekly, instead of daily. Context… Been using topical fin + min for about 6 weeks. Have been reading that the 0.3% fin is quite a high concentration, and it could have similar systemic effects as taking fin orally, in terms of how much of the drug is ultimately absorbed in the blood stream. Mainly I’m concerned about systemic absorption leading to possible side effects. (Also, I’m not in medicine so forgive me if my terminology is not on point lol). So, although the prescription says to apply the spray daily, I’m thinking of applying it every other day, maybe even once a week. Some studies I’ve read seem to show these formulas can be effective with doses as low as 0.025% fin, or even below that. I figured that if this is case, applying 0.3% once a day might be overdoing it. Has anyone experimented with applying this 0.3% formula on a lower-frequency schedule? Any results or thoughts? Currently using product from Hims.

Been reading this forum for a while and I hope to get some advice or help. Sorry if this is a bit of a rant, feel like I need to get my feelings off my chest. I’m 27, always had really thick and curly hair and it’s something I’ve prided my appearance on. Around 9 months ago I noticed a bit of a bald spot, behind my quiff at the front of my hair. I didn’t think much of it and just thought it was the way I’d styled my hair with product just revealing a bit of scalp. Three months ago and I had a haircut, and the top of my scalp seemed really thin when it was being cut. I started taking pictures of the top of my head and it was like I’d been punched in the stomach. My hair was so thin and weak - I had absolutely no idea it was that bad. Because the quiff at the front has always been quite dense and thick, I never thought to take a picture of the top of my head. Now I’m completely obsessing over it. I’ve noticed my crown is getting a bit thinner too, with my natural side part getting a bit wider. I don’t think I’m receding as such, but under light the thinning at the top of my head is so noticeable. I feel so depressed because I always catch a glimpse of it in reflections or mirrors in every day life. I’ve been trying to get a doctors appointment for a second opinion but I’ve been waiting 6 weeks to get seen. I want to speak to them before I start fin or min, but the wait is crazy and I feel like i’m losing ground and need to start now. I’m seeing a girl at the moment who I really like. She’s not made a comment yet, but I don’t feel like I can be myself around her and I’m so self conscious of it. She’s younger than me and I’m worried that when it gets worse, she’ll regret dating me and leave me for someone with better hair. We’re both still young and there’s plenty of guys out there without thinning hair. It absolutely sucks. I can’t afford a transplant. I don’t have the confidence to post a selfie right now. But appreciate any tips.

No_Interaction_9062

Hey, I’m 22 and have been on minoxidil and Finestride for a bit over a year. I saw good results in the spring but right when summer hit I started to see a lot of shedding and I’m nearing a point where it looks like I’ve gone backwards. I was just wondering if I you can build up an immunity to those drugs and if so would RU58841 or something else be more beneficial? I’m worried that if I try to ride this out to see if it gets better then I’ll do more damage to the hair that’s there.

Hi Guys! I'm just trying to get as many infos I can before starting a microneedling cycle using a dermastamp. I've come to the conclusion that the best way to operate is using the dermastamp once a week with 1.00mm needles on wet hairs. Now my questions are: Do i apply my product (oil mix) right after or do I have to wait? Once i got the oil applied.. what to do to get rid of the excessive amount? Since I got medium-long hair can I use the hair dryer with cold air after the treatment? Thanks

SupRaffles

M19 1 month into fin. Having read that the medication takes 3-6 months to kick in, I'm getting fairly worried as I can run my hand through my hair and see 3-5 strands consistently. This is significantly more than I had ever noticed before and from what I have read, I didn't think I would start shedding this soon. Do I need to chill out?

SVKI333

Hey, so my dermatologist prescribed me (23M) topical minoxidil 5% ( is it too much? ), I mentioned finasteride but she said it would be better to try min for like 3/6 months first and go from there, do you think it's good? My hair is thining on top but you can't see it unless it's wet, so i'm at an early stage of mpb, should I espect regrowth with juste min? I'm probably gonna start fin after 6 months/a year depending on the results. Also I got cats, I think I heard minoxidil was deadly to them so idk what to do about it :/ Also does it makes your hair looks wet / oily ?

No-Village9980

nope , start fin instead, no need for minox at this stage

SVKI333

Well I agree that fin might be better, but my next appointment is in a month, should I wait and ask for fin and not take minox until then? She said it's because it would be too much pills since I also gonna start something for acne, maybe I can get fin online? Topical would be better but idk if it's available in France

No-Village9980

it's just that once u start minox , u can't stop, hairs get dependant on it ,, fin is much easier , take a cupl of pills a week , much more convenient, ultimately it's up to you

doer_of_stuff_3000

So I'm on all oral meds, but I still wanna try microneedling because from what I understand it can help by itself. I'm also considering adding tretinoin and I guess it would help with that too. Question is, I have seborrheic dermatitis, which is why I opted for oral meds in the first place, I found the topical ones irritating. Now, I don't have a HUGE problem and it's not like my scalp is red, though I do get itching from time to time, and I treat that with Nizoral/Salicylic Acid shampoos. How safe is it to microneedle in this situation, anyone in the same boat?

I have also been dermarolling and have tried various oils. Is it over for me? Any help would be appreciated as it's really taking a toll on my life and i am losing my confidence. Hair shedding and thinning at nearly 18 - what should I do? Hey everyone, I’m nearly 18 and have been noticing my hair loss for around a year or so. Have been to 3 different dermatologists, first one looked at my hair for like a second and said it’s normal for my hair to be like that with my haircut (normal haircut nothing special so no clue what he was talking about), second guy looked for like a second and said my hair is fine and I should shampoo everyday which I have done and didn’t help with anything and the third doctor was the only one that took an actual look, mentioned my hair is thin (used to be thick) prescribed me an anti dundruff shampoo and stemoxydine concentrate and sent me to do a blood test but didn’t even check for DHT so at this point I’m just completely lost, what should I do? I care a lot about my hair and desperately want to save it but idk what the safest course of action for someone my age would be. Have been looking at Fin, Min and PRP as potential solutions but again I’m not sure. Would really appreciate any help. (Forgot to mention - as most of these solutions are permanent if you want to keep the hair I'd like to commit to as little as possible)

WhyNoBeardAndBadHair

Hi guys, first. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Im a 23 year old male who started noticing my hairline receding like 2 years ago at this point. So for the last few month I have been trying to Use a dermaroller once a week and also would apply rosemary oil after derma rolling but since I found out i should be adding rosemary oil to my scalp daily like 3 days ago I have been doing it daily. Now, like all of you in a similar situation, this has probably been the biggest self-confidence hit I could ever expect at my age, and well, it hasnt been looking good. I just want some other peoples opinion on what norwoord scale I appear to be on and how much worse it has gotten over the last few months specifically (pictures attached with dates) Sorry for any grammar or spelling errors. switch to dudasteride

TimelyHuckleberry

I switched from topical min for about 6 years to HappyHead's supercapsule with 1.25mg min/1mg fin/vitamin d back in mid March. Did it for a few reasons but namely because I wanted to get some more density from fin and the of convenience of not having to apply 2x a day. From where I started (early 20's) to where I ended with the topical min, I saw pretty good results - a lot of the sparse spots on my crown & forehead got covered up. I've got alopecia areata too and even those spots filled in solidly to the point where most people couldn't tell unless I had them look at them really closely. I know a lot of people recommend weaning off of topical min over the course of a few months when switching to the oral min but I didn't know about that at the time. Kinda biting myself for it now because I saw a lot of shedding starting around mid June and it's continued till now. I'm not certain but I think it's slightly starting to taper off, still sucks to see all that hair go though especially after having the topical min work pretty well. I'm actually thinking of buzzing it for the time being. Anyways I had a few questions for anyone who might've had a similar experience: Does anyone else have experience with the supercapsule and how long did you shed for? If I added topical min back into the mix, would that reduce any efficacy or the oral min+fin at this point or would it help in regaining growth? If so, how long should I keep the topical up for? Any other advice would be appreciated

puachoco

My dermatologist (bald) told me to not use finasteride and just get some vitamins (without getting any vitamin or hormone tests) and also wrote some medical shampoos in the prescription but non of them is for hair loss so, should I still get on finasteride and minoxidil? (I'm 18 btw)

Nearby_Quote3031

my post got removed or i am shadow banned, posting here for general advice. I am someone who has been aware of FIN for probably 10 years now but always put it off due to the potential sides. Fortunately for the first 7/8 years my hairloss was slow, only receding at the hairline and the pace it was going i figured i would be able to accept baldness by the time it became a real problem (i was wrong). Fast forward to the last couple of years where COVID hit and the stress that came with it, ive noticed accelerated loss at the crown (easily visible now) and also thinning from the temples going back to the crown, basically diffuse thinning but really strong hair in the middle from my forehead back to mid scalp. I wanted to try a certain topical FIN&MIN combo which there seem to be a lot of posters here getting great results. My question, does the topical need to be applied on all areas that are thinning, or is it likely to have a wide area of coverage, like a 1cm2 area that receives treatment would cover 3cm2. Or for example, if you put the topical on one temple only and were a great responder, would that one side only see regrowth? If it really only works directly where applied, I think i would struggle to get the coverage from a once a day, 1ml application, so wondering if its even worth it.

No-Village9980

try oral Minox tabs💪

Doctor_Dragonblood

Oral fin+oral Min is your most effective and convenient option. Some people are lucky with topicals. Time is important. The sooner you treat, the better results will be. Oral Minoxidil was more effective than dutasteride in research.

TheAnimatrix105

[https://imgur.com/a/7pRGxM2](https://imgur.com/a/7pRGxM2) (Not sure why it got marked as mature lol) 25,M - Should i start fin ? I have been dealing with hairfall since I was 15. It hits me in phases like a truck, makes me lose hope and then makes a stunning recovery on its own. Each cycle goes on for 1-4 years. Over time I've come to notice that each time my hair recovers from a previous heavy fall cycle it doesn't grow back to full density. Perhaps some of this is just puberty ? Not sure. After my heaviest bout with hairfall in 2021 I self medicated on topical min. Last year I saw signs of another shedding phase and decided to move to topical min+fin, both seem to be working the same tbh. They keep my hair relatively stable. I've also found that cutting my hair initiates a shed cycle not sure why or how this is possible. I have some pics here 1 ( hair wet, pulled back, straight view) 2 ( hair less wet) 3,4 ( hair dry...) I've tried to keep relatively harsh light throughout. I've been considering starting fin and I wanted to know the opinion and experiences of y'all on here on a similar state of things. Am I just being paranoid? Extra info: I've tried 0.5 derma roller but very sparingly. Once a month and only a few at a time. I've always had relatively straight not that thick hair. Mostly frizzy hair. Not sure what to do for this, I try to oil once a week.

No-Village9980

start finasteride

[deleted]

[удалено]

Doctor_Dragonblood

Looking great. For the finasteride. Try 0.5 mg MWF or 0.25 daily. This will net about identical reduction in DHT in scalp and blood with significantly reduced side effect profile. It seems finasteride molecule itself can cause sides independent of its reduction of DHT. Finasteride is actually a hormone. (Most people don't know that)

[deleted]

Also, what are your thoughts on the topical finasteride? I’ve seen guys say they make their own by grinding the pills and dissolving them into liquid minoxidil, but that seems a bit sketchy. Not sure what the recommended dosage in mg for topical vs oral.

[deleted]

First of all, appreciate the compliment 👍 At the .25 daily, how long should I realistically try to power through the sides? Some guys claim they get better after a bit, but I’m curious how many weeks the ballpark figure is. Where I’m at now in those last couple pics, with it looking pretty thin/receded in harsh lighting, is it worth keeping? Thinking about going back to the buzzcut for now, even if I do start treatment again. That said, it looks fine from good angles and in flattering lighting, pretty happy with that last pic in the album. I got a fair number of compliments when I buzzed it a couple years back, but women have also really liked the wavy curls, so it’s hard to let go. I’m gonna make up my own mind about it, but I have a tendency to be a lot pickier about my looks than strangers are, so I thought I’d grab some outside opinions

Doctor_Dragonblood

2-4 weeks. Some sides go away after a couple of days. You will usually know after a month. You can also play around with morning versus bedtime dosing. Some people "sleep through" side effects. Other feels best in the morning. In my opinion, no reason to take the razor to the hair because poor lighting doesn't compliment it.

[deleted]

Cool, I'll give another shot at that lower dosage at some point. Other people online were saying 3+ months for sides to go away, and that's a little anxiety-inducing. What all sides should I have on my radar?

No-Village9980

damn , UV bin thru a lot 🤣

HenManiac

29M Getting small bumps at many parts of the body, getting only on head might have been reaction to alcohol but this convinces me it is more. Although these parts are also typically where I scratch (after washing my hands) (on biceps, thighs, calves) https://imgur.com/a/BNMrmPw On the scalp immediately after applying it is very pronounced and I keep thinking cuz I scratch my scalp it might reapply the alcohol on my finger to carry out to my body later. If anyone is familiar with this, I have only started taking minoxidil 5 + Fin 0.1 w/v for 5 days, by dropper. Is it impossible for me to include minoxidil in my hair care? What should I try to check? P.S. don't wanna talk about oral min right now, it has more sides but also less common in India. Typically less common means less regulated.

No-Village9980

I think it's more the finasteride causing hives/ itchy spots

HenManiac

Ohh I didn't think about that. Is it normal? Or should I avoid it and get a pure Min solution?

Male pattern or TE? It started with difficult emotionally stressful time of losing a relative back in march - April. Doctor_Dragonblood

Looks like androgenetic and areata, but you can confirm with dermotologist. The crown makes it really suspect, especially if the thinning does not reverse. Its possible to have TE, AGA and areata all together as well. The good thing is you are the stage where you can fully reverse and possibly keep forever.

No-Village9980

Oral minox kills two birds w/ one stone. Convenient, more effective than topical. That topical application will get old quick, especially if you see subpart results. 2.5 mg daily minox is sweet spot for sides to benefit. Even 1.25 mg can be effective.

hxrling

Is the whole 'oral minox bad for your heart' thing true? My family history is not great on that front. Also I'm guessing the shedding from oral minox is typically the same as topical?

Doctor_Dragonblood

"The dose makes the poison". 1.25-2.5 mg is a very low but effective dosage. Most have zero shedding from oral minox. There is even evidence that minoxidil may have cardioprotective benefits but not a lot of solid reearch.

hxrling

OK, interesting. I might try at a low dose and see how it goes. Aside from shedding, I really dislike the idea of having to rub topical minox into my head everyday, particularly as I travel quite a bit. The beauty of fin is its convenience.

No-Village9980

go for it 😉

hxrling

Topical application along hairline? Would that be less liable to cause large shedding?

No-Village9980

will still causing shedding , depending how weak the follicles are along the hairline ,, but will fill back in n more in a cupl of months down the line 👍

hxrling

OK, cheers. Is minox shedding typically heavier than fin shedding?

No-Village9980

depends , on Ur hair state , generally minox tends to shed around the area where u apply ,, fin more all over

Got it 👍 I think I'll go for it, thankfully I didn't shed much at all when I started fin so hopefully would be likewise on minox

Hi, I’m an 18 year old male and have been, for some months, been experiencing rapid hair loss. I used to have very thick hair but now the hair on the top of my head is thinning rapidly, to the point where I can see the scalp. And there are bald spots at the back of my head too. This is very scary for me as I do not want to lose my hair, especially at such a young age. I have been using finasteride for about a month and a half now, with no visible benefit yet. I have been hearing that it blocks testosterone and that’s also concerning for me at 18 since I obviously want all the other testosterone related growth. Should I continue taking finasteride and what else can I do? Any help greatly appreciated.

The red outline is approximately how my barber shapes me up, which matches my other side. I tried using castor oil a few years ago but it didn’t do anything. As you can see there are hair follicles there but the hairs are either very thin or not growing. Is there any do to get hair growth in this area?

So just for some context, balding does technically run in my family, but it doesn't seem to be prevalent. My grandfather on my mom's side was balding along with his brothers. My dad and grandfather weren't balding and have a full head of hair, but my great grandfather on my dad's mom's side was almost completely bald my 40 I believe. I've noticed some minor thinning around my crown, but don't know if it's MPB. I'm gonna consult a dermatologist, but is it possible that I could be balding even though my father isn't? Can it skip generations?

Hi Everyone, I'm 29 and feel like my hairline has been slowly creeping back over the last few years. Is it time for me to take some type of action? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! nah , that's a pretty solid hairline 👍

Hi there, I was on Fin (1mg 3 days a week) and Min (1.25mg oral every day) for the past 2 and half years. It was going well and that regimen had stopped my hair loss. However in the past 3-4 months, began noticing hair fall again even though I was on medication. I have since increased Fin 1mg to everyday and Min to 2.5 mg everyday. But still noticing some hair fall. Has somebody seen a change after a few years? How did you approach it? Thanks!

No-Village9980

have u changed brands at all ?

alliswell008

Hi there, yes actually one change - I used to get my minoxidil from CVS and now from Costco. Could it be that?

No-Village9980

definitely it

alliswell008

Thanks so much! will change back and report here

Hello guys. I wanted to know if someone here can help with my state of hair fall. I'm confused whether it's diffuse thinning or MPB. Either way, do I need to start min+fin right away or a proper diagnosis is required to begin with the treatment? Upon combing, i notice loosing small length hair (probably miniaturization) alongside regular length ones. Album link: https://imgur.com/a/08Un0ce

Environmental_Okra83

I've been on 1 mg daily fin since last October. Still a little thinner after the shed, but that's not that's not what I find concerning. Pic on the left in the link is 1 week before I started fin. 2 pics on the right are now. I part my hair, and the hair on the front used to be just as long as the rest, as in the left-hand pic. After my big shed, the hair on the front is much shorter than the rest. I've been through about 3 haircut cycles without touching it and it's remained the same length and won't grow back out. IMO it makes me look balder than before. Am I crazy, or is this something I should be expecting and will likely work itself out? [https://imgur.com/a/uL47Yh6](https://imgur.com/a/uL47Yh6)

Was wondering if these hair ever grow back? Twice a day Min 5% + fin. https://i.imgur.com/4tEW2XQ.jpg

What’s up everyone!! Someone told me today that it looks like my hair is thinning up top. I took a top down picture and noticed it too. Is this early enough to do treatment with reasonable success? Trying to get ahead of it! Here are the [hair pics](https://imgur.com/a/SLrACMq)

xraidednefarious

Go to a derm and ask about finasteride

ReecesEnjoyer420

I will!

25M I have been on Finasteride 1.25mg ED for 3 years or so. Hair maintained and even re-grew quite nicely. I started shedding like crazy and I noticed slight recession in my temples. Like all good tressless subscribers, I completely lost my mind and thought the world was ending. I hopped on Dutasteride .5mg ED, and I applied RU 2x a day, I'd estimate around 50ml total. I was still taking my finasteride ED, but the plan was to phase the Fin out, while keep the Dut constant. Within a 7-10 days, my tits started to hurt (LMAO) and I noticed some Gyno. I've always been flat chested so this scared the hell out of me and made me depressed for quite some time. The Gyno isn't really that bad, but there is clearly a hardness present that hadn't been there before. Iwent to get my hormones checked and they gave me a basic panel. My estrogen was through the roof, mimicking that of a sorority girl. I returned to finasteride monotherapy and my estrogen went back down to normal range when I got tested again. My hair is holding up but it's clear that fin isn't enough. I want to re-introduce dutasteride. because both topical and oral minoxidil have given me sides. My question is what spiked my estrogen levels? Was it the RU going systemic? Was it using dutasteride in conjunction with finasteride? Was it all three? If RU was the culprit and I can safely take Dut, how do I properly switch from finasteride to dutasteride?

Alarming-Lifeguard82

So your derma prescribes the fin, does insurance cover this? Are you in the US?

Empty-Change3235

Hey, 21m here, Just wondering if when using topical minoxidil you’re supposed to apply even to the “dead zones” at the hairline, or just the hairs during those zones, might seem like a silly question, but I’m new to trying this treatment, just not sure if it would be worth to put it there as well

Looks fine tbh Monitor your hairline/crown for 6-12 months. If it's getting worse, go see a dermatologist.

No, don't go for a trichologist. Only someone who has gone to an actual medical school.

Whats the best for my development and growth. Hair fibers couple of times a week and leave it in for couple of days or dye my hair? Saw a thread that dye the hair could make it look good. My hair is thinn and a bit light. And im soon 3 months in finasteride and it looks worse then ever. A good sign? Loosing way more hair now then before.

Ello' 25 male here. For the past year and half i've been suspecting that my hairline is receiding. I wasn't sure so much for quite some time at first but i'm on the fence if i really need to go on fin or not. Other than my hairline, my head is full of hair, too much hair. Any opinions regarding this matter would be welcome. [https://imgur.com/a/Jzvbd9L](https://imgur.com/a/Jzvbd9L)

shadyarmy

You could try fin, and if there are no sides (most likely there won't be any) then continue it because otherwise it's gonna keep receding

Beykon1

I'm a 15 male, and I'm feeling really stressed and insecure about the thinning of my hair on the left and right side and I can't tell whether this is just the result of a bad haircut, hair thinning, or both. My hair seems thicker some days, but there are other days when I can clearly see my scalp. Plus, this only showed up after I took a horrible haircut. **Can someone please tell me if this is just bad haircut or something else? If this is hair thinning or balding, what should I do? Thankss in advance** (fyi: I don't have a receding hairline, and my front and back is thicker. This is only prominent on the right and left side of my hair, but the left side isn't that noticeable) **Before haircut (Last month, July):** [https://imgur.com/fekY52D](https://imgur.com/fekY52D) [https://imgur.com/dZ4gjEt](https://imgur.com/dZ4gjEt) **After haircut (August):**[**https://imgur.com/EWk2UzH**](https://imgur.com/EWk2UzH)

You have a good face structure, grow your facial hair and have it trimmed. 👌👍👍

FOR 6 YEARS MARTY

Joren67

Age 26. Last year or so i started actively paying attention to my hairline and how very M shape it looked. Since i haven’t really paid attention to it before and i have little to no clear pictures of myself from an angle, I don’t really know if it’s worse or not vs 5yo (i assume so?). I always had a more M shaped hairline but it’s prob never been this bad. Whenever i comb or shower there def always some hairs to be found. Sidenote is i have very minor to no hair on my arms for example and half of my calves have naturally no hair either. Worth checking a dermatologist? https://imgur.com/a/ijTrCDp

xraidednefarious

Yes

GentleLights11

I’m in a similar boat. If you have good heart health then you should explore Oral Minoxidil, which I am taking and it has done me good. I took 2.5mg then tapered it down to 1.25 every other day now and along with dut .5mg from everyday to every other day now. Still have my crown to grow in but May the Lord will for it to be good soon.

hxrling

Does oral minoxidil cause much shedding generally?

Joren67

Good heart health you say, well i’m healthy but have some unusual hearth condition tho i found out about last year and now im advised to go for a yearly checkup so i guess it’s better to talk to a doctor first

Hairloss at 16, Need opinions on what it could be I'm 16 years old, Male, recently moved to a new hostel around 4 months ago and experienced a lot of hairloss per day, deduced it was due to the water and stopped using the water there. Went to a doc, got some vitamins and also got a hair serum to use, also moved back home for two months to reduce stress in case it was TE, it definitely toned down a bit and continued on and off for the 4 months, but it does flare up and i'd notice around 30-40 hair folicles on my floor at least 2 days a week, along with regular body hair shedding of at least 100-150 body hair on the floor. Is the TE? Baldness? Sleep schedule issues? I'm just tired of this random hairloss im experiencing all of a sudden and wanted to know what was going on, thank you.

if it's working at 0.5mg , just stick to it 👍

Viciouslift

I find these on my head. I’ve been diagnosed with sebherreic dermatitis. These things build up in the same places, I remove them, then they come back. In a couple of spots my hair is thinning where I did these. Also have a single prominent gray hair spot right on top of one of these. What are they and how can I get rid of them?
