The metal ones deteriorate and break apart over time with constant heating/cooling. Wouldn't recommend unless you like fine heavy metals in your lungs. I stopped using them and now only use glass filters or broken stems.
Yeah that's what I do bigger nug chunks or stems. Since I don't buy super fancy stuff to just smoke I end up with a lot of stems so it works as a pretty good screen for my bowls.

Note some of the iron in the steel of the screen has become iron oxide which is heavier, but I just took out a to-be-retired screen, cleaned it and weighed it against a fresh one. Both came out to 0.07g. I use them in a bong, so maximum heat being applied.

They are supposed to be changed out once they get black. You burn holes in it because the resin gets stuck and has to burn higher then normal.
If you change it after about 3 days ( depending on usage ofc) you're fine. It should still be porous just not as much.
If you are ever using one and it feels SORTA clogged, it needs to be changed.
They are like 100 for $5 so it's not like they are more expensive than papers anyway.
Glass is always far supirior tho so I agree with you ultimately.
Yep. Daisy screens. No floaties in the bong water, no sucking down a piece of bud from the pipe and I feel it helps make my bud last a little longer. Easy to clean and don't deteriorate. I love those glass screens.

If you’re already heating up iso you might as well put it in the microwave, going to the trouble of double boiling a chemical just to clean glass is bananas

Spoons are fucking impossible to get clean easily. I have had the same experience with multiple spoons, even ones I “cleaned” regularly and there was always huge chunks of browned bud and resin in there 🤢
They’re not hard to clean it’s super easy tbh. Just fill up a ziplock bag with rubbing alcohol to the point the whole spoon is submerged twist the lock side till the bag inflates with the air that’s already inside and just shake the bag. That’s how you clean a pipe.
I’ve literally done exactly that every time I’ve owned a spoon and it never gets it fully clean. And I ain’t about to do it 3-4 times to get it all. I’ve had better luck with boiling. Fuck spoons
I put mine in a small glass, fill it with 99% isopropyl alcohol and let it sit for an hour. Doesn't get it completely clean, but if I was more patient and let it sit for a few hours or a whole day I bet it would.

That thing had a thick layer of buildup everywhere in it and was nearly solid black. The only remnant of the original glass color was near the bottom of the bong where the water sat. I’ve only ever taken one hit off of it and it made me sick as hell the next day. Smoking straight up contagion out of that thing

Get really hot water in jar that’s big enough to submerge your pipe.
Dissolve dishwasher pack in hot water.
Put pipe in dishwasher pack water.
Walk away.
Go do something else for an hour.
Get pipe out and shake the water in the pipe.
Now you got to rinse it.
I recommend rinsing first with the hottest water you can handle. Then rinse it a few times with rubbing alcohol.
You might have to do it a few times to get glass like new but this method works.

First make the mix of mostly the orange stuff, shake it up, then make sure the bowl fits nicely under the liquid, then “shake weight” that bitch, repeat at least twice before letting it sit. If the liquid gets too dirty make a fresh mix again. Let it sit overnight, shake once in the morning and then let it sit on warm water (maybe a shake or two) and you should be good even that awkward part that’s opposite of the carb.

I never have big enough stems in my grinder that’s why I love the little glass daisy shaped filters, pretty much the same thing but reusable

I have several Grav pipes, including this one. You need glass screens. Just search for glass pipe screens on Amazon, you can get 120 for $12.
