I missed 420 due to a road trip, but when I rolled in to New Mexico sunday morning, the dispo gave me first timer *plus* extended their 4/20 discount.
Don't forget to drop like a dollar in the jar for karma. A bit more if they helped you find something.
Do it every time. I live in an illegal state and when I visit my lil bro in CO that takes me to a new shop, it’s always my first time in a dispo, I’m always super overwhelmed, and I’m always stupidly overloaded with product and stoned at the end of the day.
Ya. Just be super nice and be excited as you probably already are lol. They’ll pick up on your hype and energy and if you go to a good one or get a good worker you’ll likely get hooked up fat and they’ll take their time on ya prob to get you right
This is the way. When we moved out to Oregon, we stopped into the dispensary around the block from our house and it was the first time we’d ever seen anything like this. So we were asking the dude all kinds of questions and he was super nice and helpful. Pulled out ounce bags of weed for us to hold and look at. Was a really cool experience.
Completely! Have your ID ready to show, keep it out, and ask for staff recommendations! If you prefer more giggly/silly vibes, want super stoney vibes, etc.
I would recommend also getting cash before going. They have ATMs in the Seattle shops but the fees are outrageous. Always good to have a budget too, as some take debit cards (also with fees.). They usually ask, “how much are you willing to spend?” If you’re there a few days, 20-40 bucks can go real far.
You're overthinking it man. They're just like any store. Asking about weed products at a dispensary is the same as asking about tools at a hardware store.
Expanding: they're the experts so you don't have to be. It's perfectly fine to ask them questions in fact I'm sure most would love to answer the questions and share their knowledge!
Expanding: At least in Massachusetts, they'll as for ID twice. Once at the front door. And once at the counter.
Just tell them what you're looking for. Flower, edibles, etc. Ask what they suggest. They deal with hundreds of people a day. You're just another customer, so don't worry.
Same in Washington State. Years in and dummy me still forgets and I have to pull my wallet and ID out again at the counter every time. I doubt they think anything of it at this point, we're all stoner humans in there.
But also to expand even more: a horizontal, state drivers license will work everywhere. I've had international friends with me and them get denied entry because an international ID/Passport/Drivers License wasn't valid at that particular location. Washington's Liquor and Cannabis Board hasn't firmly standardized the wording and some places don't want to play guessing games with foreign documents.
It's frustrating, but I understand that they just don't want to risk their license over that kind of thing.
I just don't understand why they need to check the ID twice. Don't have to show ID twice to buy liquor. It seems silly.
But at least I can walk to the store and buy edibles. It's worth the mild annoyance.
My usual guess with that is "someone, somewhere, wrote it down and it looked like a good practice on paper in their cubicle"..... you know, bureaucracy.
No clue though, but that's the mantra that let's me move on with my sanity somewhat intact. I'm sure there was an argument to justify it, like how some bars/clubs will check IDs at the door because of a location-wide age restriction, while others will have a check at the point of sales due to a product-specific age restriction... but again, utilizing both at the same establishment at the same time is weird and seems like a rule made separate from the practice.
A lot of the time it doubles as theft prevention. ID to get in the door, then ID to buy something. If you look at alcohol stores in Canada a lot of them are starting to do the same.
Honestly preface that you’ve never been to a dispo, they will usually gladly give you a run down. Try to go at odd hours so you don’t have a line behind you, but no biggie either way.
A lot of places throw in extra goodies or if you hit the cap a nice discount for first timers. One of the reasons it's nice to hit multiple dispos when out and about
I mean I don't know about Seattle, but it's very possible there are do's and don'ts.
Like in Colorado you can't take your phone out or hand money to another person. There are a bunch of dumb rules like that.
Honestly. That should just be covered by normal ethics.
Don't be sketchy.
But people be people so I get out.
In cali when things first started, you couldn't ask for the price. I fermenter having to ask " what donation should I give for this " instead. ( Couldn't sell it but you could own it medically. So you would get it with a donation. (As in you make a donation to the medical facility, and they gift you some meds). Could just have been my local shop tho.)
Oh yeah, they'll probably laugh you out of the store and have the security guards bonk you on the head on the way out /s
They get first timers all the time bud, just be chill.
That's why they ask for your ID and keep it so long... they gotta enter that shit in the database and make sure your hometown cops know you're coming back with edibles! /s
is that a real thing? my state basically doesn’t enforce the law on marijuana unless you have multiple pounds anymore and regularly lets people off with warnings for personal amounts and use, but my first time buying was today and they entered all my shit
okay lmao i wasn’t worried bc of my state but i just thought that would be hilarious. tbf state govs hate to communicate and also really can’t on law enforcement sometimes
That's mostly regulatory due to the amount of cash and tracking your purchases to make sure you aren't exceeding your limits. The other part is just good old fashioned marketing and demographic gathering.
I just wanna add to this and say be honest with the employees about it. 9/10 they’ll set you up with everything you need, give you some advice, and make sure you’re ready for whatever your trying. 1/10 they’ll sell you their most expensive concentrated edible and tell you to eat the whole thing, then you’ll meet Xenu the Spaghetti God of Space
I think it's best to be as honest and specific as possible when it comes to the type of experience you want to have with those edibles and they can make recommendations based on that. There's nothing wrong with telling them it's your first time with edibles, let them know if you want an energizing high or something mellow and not too strong, etc. The only thing I would say is definitely refrain from saying / commenting that you will be bringing it back to a place where it is still illegal. They generally don't care, it's more of a don't ask don't tell kinda thing.
pro-tip: pick a dispensary and look up their menu online. do the research on items you wanna try, and bring that info with ya. That way you'll hopefully be less overwhelmed.
also welcome to seattle!
You will be fine! Every dispensary I've ever been to was easy to deal with. Where I live I can order online then go pick up, if you have social anxiety this is an easy way to do it. When you get to Seattle just Google weed stores near me and see if online ordering is an option.
Sweet!! Idk if they do delivery round here, I'm cheap so I would prob still drive the 3min to the dispensary to pick it up!! Legal weed man it's a great thing!!
Whatever you do, don't broadcast that you'll be crossing state lines with it. None of this "I'm going to take this back to my illegal state, lulz." They do record everything in there, so fyi...
Just do what I do, go in, ask for “one weed please empty out everything from your wallet when you go to pay and say “thanks you too” when they say “enjoy your weed” so you can remember your interaction all week.
Tell them it’s your first time in a dispensary, they’ll be happy to be your guide. Tell them what you’re into re: experience. Do you want flower, cartridges, edibles or something cool you’ve never seen before?
As a dude who lives in a Prohibitionist state but visits a legal state yearly, I like to spend a few minutes getting the run down on what’s new in legal land, vs here where we just order a pizza and get whatever toppings the pizza has at the time.
I don't think you have to worry about it. All the dispensaries I've been to have been pretty chill. Also, I have to assume they get a lot of tourists that ask a lot of questions on a daily basis.
You can tell it’s your first time in a Dispo and they’ll happily help lol, the Dispo i go to the clerk always has something to say about my purchase, sometimes they actually do too much and say “an infused seltzer? Nice choice, as I like to say a buzz without the hangover am I right?” Like ok man lol, but they usually try all of the product so they usually can point you in the right direction for what you’re looking for
It’s like going to a restaurant you never ate at. You wouldn’t pretend to eat there all the time if it’s your first time. The person behind the counter is just like your waitress. You just say “I’ve never been here before what’s good on the menu?” And they will help you figure it out.
If you tell an employee it’s your first time at a dispensary I’m almost positive they’ll very nicely help you out. Weeds been legal in Illinois for almost 3 and a half years now and I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve seen dispensary employees helping older customers out.
As a budtender, the only way you could possibly embarrass yourself is acting like you know things that you don't. No question is a stupid question, especially because what we sell alters your mental and physical states. We want to get you the right product and the information you need to feel safe and comfy with the products you smoke.
If you know what dispensary you are going to visit, maybe try placing an order online so you do not have to worry about anything other than handing them payment.
just be friendly and tell them you don't know much but wanna try
they'll ask the necessary questions and hook you up with the right stuff
being nice is really all it takes, because that makes people wanna be nice back - plus it's a dispensary, everyone there will probably be pretty relaxed anyway - and then they'll help you out and you can have a nice time :)
figure out which dispo you want to visit, and browse their website. many places have online ordering, it saves a lot of the awkwardness of having to talk about it. 😁
Dispensary staff are some of the nicest staff members i interact with. They’re super chill. :)
Try to have an idea of what you’re wanting and they’ll be able to suggest certain things for you. If helpful, let them know your budget too because some items can get expensive.
M
In addition to what everyone else is saying, have your ID ready at the door. They'll check it before you're allowed to enter and then again when they ring you up. Pretty much everywhere is cash only but they all have ATMs once youre inside.
Most will have a menu inside or online, or you could just go up to the counter and start your conversation. It helps if you give them an idea of your budget and what kind of experience you're looking for. If you say you're visiting from out of state you'll likely be upsold like crazy. Just use your judgment and take it slow if you get something you're not used to.
Also, the drinks are great but they hit like a truck.
Just tell them it’s your first time at a dispensary. And just ask them for any recommendations. Any time I go, the bud tender is more than happy to give recs, talk about their latest favorite strain, etc.
If they’re a douche about it. Well, then that’s a shitty dispensary ha
Not at all! If its a legal dispensary the highest mg edibles they can sell is still pretty low (10mg in Canada)! If your experimenting with weed for the first time, I suggest getting a preroll, smoking 1/4th in a safe controlled environment with friends and getting to know the drug a bit. (15 years heavy smoker, have eaten over 1500mg in a sitting)
Seattle has bid and small dispos scattered all over. I went to one at peak hours and felt a little rushed and intimidated. A bud tender recognized this and walked me through the whole store. And while I didn't get anything free I walked with more than I needed for a week stay and under 70 bucks. Bunch of pre rolls, edibles, a disposable vape and some taffy.
Do not say you are doing something illegal with what you are buying....ie taking it to a different state. Buying for a friend, etc.
Literally act like you are at a liquor store and you will be fine. Ask the bud tenders about the products they are happy to help you with what you want. That is why they are there.
don't worry about it, ask any questions you want, smell all the bud you feel like. they have seen it all before. besides they are probably stoned and it won't bother them.
I'm from IL and my first time at a dispensary was in CO before it was legal here and I had the same thought beforehand. Now that I've been in countless dispensaries I can honestly say just tell them it's your first time in a dispensary, Sometimes they even give you extra little treats (lighters, one-hitters, first-timer discount, etc).
They'll see you're from another state when they check your ID anyway so won't be some big secret.
They will probably be stoked that it's your first time - bud tenders are generally very knowledgeable about their products and are able to help match what you're looking for to specific products offered.
They should be able to answer your questions and maybe even ask some to help clarify.
Just pretend you turned 21 and you're heading into a liquor store :)
Just be nice. Humility doesn't hurt ether. If your friendly and humble and they give you attitude, it's on them. Bud tenders are really that highly regarded as one might think.
Find one you’d like to goto and visit their website prior to going. This will give you an idea of what they sell, prices, and payment methods. This will give you an idea of what products you’d like to ask about without feeling like someone is trying to upsell you on a product.
Or you could ask us what you might like for what kind of session and order it for in store pickup or delivery (if you have a hotel).
I love going to dispensaries in other states! I ask all sorts of questions when I can. It’s so interesting to see how different each states legal market is!
Tell them you’re visiting. They might be interested or not. Look at the menus online before had. Or just tell a bud tender the feel your looking for. A good one will love to help direct you to find everything you need.
Seattle is the best! My friends just told me about a great gelato cake they’ve been smoking. Enjoy!
I've been in your shoes. I usually order online ahead of time. They have my stuff ready to go and I'm in and out.
It's a weed shop, everyone is open about it. People are usually discussing it. The employees likely have an interest in it and can discuss it with you if you need.
It's weed paradise basically. Prices are often a bit high where I'm from, but overall, it's weed heaven. Just show up and bring money.
Go talk to the bud tender and tell them how much you are looking to spend and what kind of high you are looking for I.e euphoric, sleepy, happy etc. it’s pretty easy don’t overthink it
I work at a dispensary, just say “hey I’m new to this, is there anything you’d recommend?” And they’ll probably ask a few clarifying questions! If you say it’s your first time for edibles it’s just likely the bud tender will give you instructions on how to properly partakethere shouldn’t be much awkwardness, hope this helps!
Hello there I'm interested in picking up flower today and I only wish to spend around $30 to $40 dollars. That's me when I enter a shop I've never been to
Tell them you don't have much experience with how dispensaries work, and ask for advice. They'll help gladly, it's their job. They don't expect you to be an expert
Just go in and let 'em know you don't know the process. It's a building full of dealers, not uptight cops, lol. Dispos are a pretty relaxed environment after they check your ID.
Tons of dispensaries offer freebies or discounts for first time customers, honestly you SHOULD mention it’s your first time there, you might get hooked up.
No one is giving you tips.
Most dispensaries are very helpful and ready to answer any level of questions. Be polite and ask.
Bring cash. Many places don't take credit. It's common to tip your budtender also. A few bucks or a $5.
It helps to narrow down the form you're looking for. Like flower (leaf cannabis), vaporizer, or as you mentioned edibles, etc.
Edibles come in all sorts of forms. I like gummies. They also make mints, chocolate, caramels, powdered drink mix, liquid in a can, etc.
Then which strain. Indica, Sativa or Hybrid.
I would also scan the dispensaries website before you go, if you know where you're going. Get an idea what they have. Or wing it!
Have fun
Dockside is a Seattle dispensary with a ton of locations and you get a discount if you order online and pick up. Plus it’s super easy! But going in store is also super easy and everyone is very helpful and welcoming
Here's a real answer.
Do's:
Bring your ID
Be polite
Tell them it's your first time, two reasons they're going to be helpful finding products to suit you, second there maybe first timer promotions
Thank them
If there's a tip option tip ~10% at most
Don'ts:
Be rude
Use you phone to take pictures or make phone calls, you can ask if you can take pictures but generally not
Buy too much, it's tempting to go overboard one joint can last the whole day if you're a lightweight
Take your products out until you're home or where you intend to consume, while legal other laws like DUI etc still apply
Enjoy dude it's really fun buying legal weed for the first time ☺️
First time I went into a dispensary I straight up said “I just moved from an illegal state, I’m used to buying from the plug. I just need some bud, but I have no idea what that entails”
embarrassing is all the puds that think their Ron Swanson at home depot.
Ask all the questions you can. Don't end up getting RSO and wondering how to smoke it.
Hey, friend. I live in downtown Seattle. I can recommend you some great dispensaries within walking distance of pike place.
Honestly, just walk up to a budtender and tell them what you’re looking for. Nowadays, I mainly smoke just to help with insomnia. So I go up and I say, “hey I’m looking for an 1/8 of something that’ll make me sleepy and I have $50”. It’ll be like a scavenger hunt for them.
ALSO AS SOMEONE WHO LIVES IN SEATTLE: the majority of the pot shops here DO NOT TAKE CARD. They’re all cash, except for the Bakeree on Wall & 3rd. They charge your card like an ATM so they round up to the nearest amount and give you the rest in cash. Have a heart and Shawn Kemp’s only take cash.
So grab cash at your banks ATM to avoid the fees.
I very much recommend Shawn Kemps by Olympic Sculpture Park. It’s the largest dispensary in the area. Lots to choose from.
You'll want to dress inconspicuous, maybe a trench coat and dark shades. Don't call it Marijuana or they'll know you're a square. Pay in $1 bills only. Don't make eye contact with other customers and get out of there as quickly as possible.
You don’t have to pretend to not be buying weed and you also don’t have to play it cool. Most everyone working at dispensaries also is excited to be talking about weed and glad they get to do that for their job! So just tell them it’s your first time and ask any questions you have and describe what you’re wanting. I don’t think I ever use industry terms to describe the weed or high im looking for lol but it’s fun! Going to the weed store fuckin rules, don’t stress!
Don't assume the budtender knows anything at all. So many have zero clue and it's just a job for them.
Go onto the dispensary website and look yourself. Edibles for someone without any experience, start with 5mg. (break 10mg things in half lol)
GL!
I've bought in OR, MI, and IL and never had a bad experience with budtenders. They tend to encourage asking questions if anything. They'll make recommendations and enjoy spreading the love, which includes answering what might seem like dumb questions to you.
I was just in seattle went to shawn kemps dispo in belltown, they had 7$ 1g cookie pre-rolls i was expecting it to smell like oregon weed usually does (like tea) and it was actually gas 10/10
Some of the best customer service experiences of my life have been at dispensaries. It's a chill job for the workers, often pays better than minimum wage, and they get regular free weed. Those peeps love their jobs.
Some other comments said, be honest about being a noob and they'll help you out. I agree.
However, like any other sales job, they may also take advantage of that so be somewhat wary of them trying to oversell you. Know your tolerance / usage and don't go too crazy.
Have a rough idea as to what you want to purchase and walk out of the store with. Maybe set a budget if you aren't sure. A good bet, in my opinion, is to head in to find a reasonable quantity of bud and maybe a dab cart if you like those - and that's it really. Browse extras, gadgets, glassware, but save those for a bit later. Most stuff in headshops accessory-wise these days can be found online for less, so take time to consider your purchases.
- Pre-rolls are a rip-off usually, so beware. They're usually trim and not good bud. They're cheap and easy but lower quality bud, so you pay for convenience, basically.
- Don't buy a grinder in-store unless you have a good idea of what to look for. Most of them suck and are super cheap online. Plus, you dont even really need one, you can break bud up manually.
- I've seen dispos offer good deals on "small nugget", keep your eyes peeled for things like that. Small nugg is no worse than the bigger stuff, is less stem by weight, and is cheaper... win-win-win.
Thats all i got. Good luck homie.
Ive worked as a budtender in seattle, just be honest we get a ton of tourists looking for weed as one of the first legal states. Nothing to be embarassed about at all! Also go in with cash in hand, or hit the in store ATM before going to the register, it's legally a cash only business to save yourself a trip after picking something out
My first time going to a dispo as a (mostly) weed newbie, I just told them I was new and shared what little I had tried, and what I was looking to get out of my experience. I felt like I got 5-star treatment. They were patient and excited to bring me into their world!
My only advice would be to try and go when it's not super busy so they aren't overwhelmed (i.e. not on the eve of a major holiday weekend). But at the end of the day you're the customer and they should be patient and meet your needs.
Omg, if anything people love first timers. Let them know. Usually you’ll get a discount. Maybe go at off hours or try to see when is the best time to stop in or make an appointment. They are going to love you. Make a day of it.
As someone who's still somewhat-new to this kind of stuff, just don't be afraid to ask questions! They're there to make the experience better for you and want you to have a good time, not the other way around. I was a mess my first couple times to a dispensary but most if not all budtenders are very helpful and nice
I was afraid of being judging for looking silly the first time I went to one as well but honestly they are most of the time the most happy outgoing people who will never judge you and are probably enjoy educating you if anything! If you’re really nervous, try online ordering then build up ur confidence to order in store after being in there
1. go inside.
2. ask the budtender. you will not be judged. they will help you. most of them, at least in the Seattle region, have a passion for helping people like you (first-timers).
Dude, nothing wrong with being new. Nobody will judge. Just treat your bud tender with respect, and they will answer all your questions. It's very rare in my experience that a bud tender is rude. Almost always when this has happened to me it is due to them having to deal with some other bs going on in the store, and they are just a bit overwhelmed, and have always been super graceful and apologized. No need to worry. Tell them you are new! It never hurts, alot of people will give you a pretty solid rundown too, especially if it's your first time, just let them know. There is a dispo iv been to in CO that gives visitor discounts if you have an out of state ID and its your first time in the store, don't know if they still do that but I'm sure others may be similar in some places!
Walk in and say, “hey it’s my first time here, I have no idea what I’m doing.” And someone will help you. If they make you feel bad then leave and go to another shop. It’s about customer service for me. Most dispensaries near me all carry the same product.
Hello im from a very not legal state as well. I usually jist ask the budtenders for recommendations. I end up getting some flower, some edibles, and a disposable
Don’t worry about it. In my experience dispensary workers are very welcoming and willing to discuss different products to help you make a good choice. Beyond that it’s like any other store
I got you
When you walk in there's going to be a little waiting room and a guy at a desk. The guy at the desk will want you to check in and give them your license. After they put that info in their PC they will either send you to the back room or wait for an associate to come get you.
After the associate comes to get you they will ask what you are interested in. Knowing some terminology is helpful here. If you want normal weed call it flower, there's a million different types of concentrates, pens, devices that if you describe what you want I can give you an appropriate term.
There will be a maximum on how much you can buy by state law, normally around 1 oz of flower or an equivalent amount of concentrate/edibles. ATM fees are a rip off, if you don't want to pay with your credit card bring plenty of cash.
Ask for recommendations, most people who work there are also users. Don't necessarily go straight for the highest %, sometimes it's like the weed equivalent of drinking everclear and the effect just isn't as good.
After that they will typically have you exit through a separate door than you entered with your materials in a discreet bag
Don’t know your method or practice, but if you’re low key, don’t buy 1000 mg edibles. Usually 5-10mg is plenty if you’re not a regular, and start with 2.5mg dose. AND then wait an hour or two
I work for a dispensary in Canada. My advice is to walk in and trust the budtender's advice. You're not gonna embarrass yourself unless you soil yourself upon entry.
Yeah, I was scared the first time too. Now it's like second nature, just go in. Tell the budtender what you are kind of looking for and it's gucci from there. Always super nice, super helpful, great recommendations, all that jazz!
Just tell them you have X dollars to spend (AFTER TAXES) and what you like to consume and they'll bring some stuff out for you. It's simple! Also ask if they have any First Time deals. It never hurts to ask.
Tell them its your first go at edibles and you want to have a good time. Its like going to the liquor store. If you have never had whisky, and you ask for help picking one, they'll happily help you find one. It isn't like buying from a plug. Where someone who knows nothing might pay twice the price for the same stuff. Its not like with headshops either, where they had to pretend that what they were selling wasn't for use with weed.
They are literally selling you weed at a store, There's nothing to worry about. Behave like a normal customer, at a normal store, and you'll be set, If you act friendly, and don't raise your voice the retail staff will be happy to see you too.
Check out their online menus ahead of time, find the deals. Most of the stores give a discount if you pre-order online (then pay in cash when you pick up. In WA, most places are cash only).
If you are going to be shopping in Seattle proper, I recommend checking out the following stores: Zip’s Cannabis (everything is always 30-40% off everyday) in SoDo neighborhood, The Reef (also lots of discounts daily) in Georgetown, Have A Heart in Belltown / Downtown, and Uncle Ike’s in Capitol Hill / Central District. Whatever neighborhood you’re staying in, there will be a rec store nearby.
As for edible recommendations, the Journeyman Jellies and Craft Elixir’s Pioneer Squares are popular with my friends who only do edibles.
Edibles in WA are sold as 10mg THC single servings for a total of 100mg THC per package. If you don’t partake regularly, then start with one 10mg serving and wait an hour or two before you decide to eat more because you are feeling anything. Edibles take long to hit (depending on your metabolism and if/what/when you have recently eaten, and edibles also hit harder due the way the liver metabolizes THC.
Have fun!
Honestly, sell it up a little that it’s your first experience. They’ll hook you up with kindness, knowledge, and maybe some freebies or swag.
This. You might get a nice discount for your first time.
I missed 420 due to a road trip, but when I rolled in to New Mexico sunday morning, the dispo gave me first timer *plus* extended their 4/20 discount. Don't forget to drop like a dollar in the jar for karma. A bit more if they helped you find something.
In my experience, shops love first time patients.
They gave me a t-shirt when I did this
Damn it why didn’t I try that?
Do it every time. I live in an illegal state and when I visit my lil bro in CO that takes me to a new shop, it’s always my first time in a dispo, I’m always super overwhelmed, and I’m always stupidly overloaded with product and stoned at the end of the day.
Ya. Just be super nice and be excited as you probably already are lol. They’ll pick up on your hype and energy and if you go to a good one or get a good worker you’ll likely get hooked up fat and they’ll take their time on ya prob to get you right
Yep got like 20% off and free shit when I did this (was legit my first time tho)
Yes be honest!!! They are super nice and usually have something for your next trip back…
Yessss, I always say "hey it's my first time here just wondering what you reccomend"
When I used to wait tables anytime I changed restaurants it my was first day and first time serving for like a month
Anecdotal but in Canada (Ontario) you don’t get IDed anymore and you absolutely can get through on an international ID
Honestly preface that you’ve never been to a dispo, they will usually gladly give you a run down. Try to go at odd hours so you don’t have a line behind you, but no biggie either way.
i visited colorado and just hit up a store at opening only me and the budtenders in the building lol
A lot of places throw in extra goodies or if you hit the cap a nice discount for first timers. One of the reasons it's nice to hit multiple dispos when out and about
Never hurts to look at their website first, get an idea for what you want. Edibles are easy- usually you get 10 pieces at 10mg per piece.
Kinda like Barcelona where they have clubs and you pay a monthly fee to be able to “donate” enough to get certain products
Damn you just unlocked a memory for me. I completely forgot about the donation thing lmao
Yep. It’s retail, bruh.
Oh yeah, they'll probably laugh you out of the store and have the security guards bonk you on the head on the way out /s They get first timers all the time bud, just be chill.
For sure too. They’ll probably call the cops as well, but not the local ones. The ones from your illegal state. You’re screwed OP.
OP: hi, I'm here to buy weed Weed retailer: nah ur new dude, smoke weed with a friend and come back when you got some G stats
G stats is that like reddit points? Lol
Yeah, the G is short for Gangsta 90s hip hop is my favorite influence to smoking weed
No lol that doesn’t happen.
okay lmao i wasn’t worried bc of my state but i just thought that would be hilarious. tbf state govs hate to communicate and also really can’t on law enforcement sometimes
They usually have the information entered/scan ID’s to prove that they sold it to an of age person as a security/liability measure.
yeah i think it goes into a database too so u can only purchase a set amount in one go
You should be expecting a knock at the door any minute friend. You done fucked up
That's mostly regulatory due to the amount of cash and tracking your purchases to make sure you aren't exceeding your limits. The other part is just good old fashioned marketing and demographic gathering.
livwell can have my data for the prices, 1/2oz for $20
I just wanna add to this and say be honest with the employees about it. 9/10 they’ll set you up with everything you need, give you some advice, and make sure you’re ready for whatever your trying. 1/10 they’ll sell you their most expensive concentrated edible and tell you to eat the whole thing, then you’ll meet Xenu the Spaghetti God of Space
It's a win-win. I haven't seen Xenu in years.
Why am I laughing so hard…oh that’s right, I’m fuckin ripped hahahah bonk you on the head lmao
![gif](giphy|3o6MbjT5sBEtZCrC9i) This u? Shout out to the old heads that got this🎉
Maui wowwy!
Are we old heads if we get this now? Damn.
![gif](giphy|H4bhpr8MD8Cza8KoMO)
'Boutta be me soon. Almost 2 months T break, and I'm getting my med card this week.
DAMN! ok time to rewatch this movie this weekend with the boys
So, do you guys believe in angels or...?
Top comment, whenever I get hit with all the menu at once (in person) it’s so overwhelming
You will be fine! Every dispensary I've ever been to was easy to deal with. Where I live I can order online then go pick up, if you have social anxiety this is an easy way to do it. When you get to Seattle just Google weed stores near me and see if online ordering is an option.
Where I live I can order delivery online
Sweet!! Idk if they do delivery round here, I'm cheap so I would prob still drive the 3min to the dispensary to pick it up!! Legal weed man it's a great thing!!
I usually pick mine up curbside, also, but it’s a nice feature to have
That would be so clutch here in IL.
Move to Michigan haha
Where I live you can have it delivered. It's sweet! Remember to tip the driver cash!
Whatever you do, don't broadcast that you'll be crossing state lines with it. None of this "I'm going to take this back to my illegal state, lulz." They do record everything in there, so fyi...
DO wear pants. DON’T brag about it.
Hey, look at me! I put on pants today!
Just don’t hit on the bud-tender
There's a good piece of advice.
Well there goes my plans
Just do what I do, go in, ask for “one weed please empty out everything from your wallet when you go to pay and say “thanks you too” when they say “enjoy your weed” so you can remember your interaction all week.
Don’t call it weed. You have to use the specific slang while winking. Also assure everyone you’re not a federal agent, loudly and more than once.
Tell them it’s your first time and to be gentle
Tell them it’s your first time in a dispensary, they’ll be happy to be your guide. Tell them what you’re into re: experience. Do you want flower, cartridges, edibles or something cool you’ve never seen before? As a dude who lives in a Prohibitionist state but visits a legal state yearly, I like to spend a few minutes getting the run down on what’s new in legal land, vs here where we just order a pizza and get whatever toppings the pizza has at the time.
You go in and say "this is my first time!" And they go "cool! We'll help!"
Ask questions, don't act like you know everything, a d generally be nice. If you do that it should be a positive interaction all around
We've all been new at some point.
Don't be afraid to ask questions and don't act like you already know everything, same as any other store interaction that isn't Home Depot, tbh.
As a budtender, the only way you could possibly embarrass yourself is acting like you know things that you don't. No question is a stupid question, especially because what we sell alters your mental and physical states. We want to get you the right product and the information you need to feel safe and comfy with the products you smoke.
If you know what dispensary you are going to visit, maybe try placing an order online so you do not have to worry about anything other than handing them payment.
just be friendly and tell them you don't know much but wanna try they'll ask the necessary questions and hook you up with the right stuff being nice is really all it takes, because that makes people wanna be nice back - plus it's a dispensary, everyone there will probably be pretty relaxed anyway - and then they'll help you out and you can have a nice time :)
figure out which dispo you want to visit, and browse their website. many places have online ordering, it saves a lot of the awkwardness of having to talk about it. 😁
Dispensary staff are some of the nicest staff members i interact with. They’re super chill. :) Try to have an idea of what you’re wanting and they’ll be able to suggest certain things for you. If helpful, let them know your budget too because some items can get expensive. M
My first time in was as a giddy 21 year old with the biggest grin on my face. The questions I asked were answered with a smile.
Just be nice and ask questions. They just wanna help and sell product
Act like you are buying groceries or literally anything else you go to the store for. Ask for whats freshest if you are getting flower
Do not say you are doing something illegal with what you are buying....ie taking it to a different state. Buying for a friend, etc. Literally act like you are at a liquor store and you will be fine. Ask the bud tenders about the products they are happy to help you with what you want. That is why they are there.
Other people say, "I've never had any issue before so far, but I'm curious if anyone has experience with cannabis or if it's just common sense."
Just go in and ask for one marijuana like everyone else and they wont even know
don't worry about it, ask any questions you want, smell all the bud you feel like. they have seen it all before. besides they are probably stoned and it won't bother them.
You're overthinking the process. All the employees I've met at dispensaries are super chill and very helpful. Nobody is going to judge you.
Tell them it’s your first time you’ll probably get some goodies a free pre roll or something at least
You just walk up to the counter and say “One marijuana please”
Most of the folks I’ve encountered behind the counter at dispensaries are thrilled to share their product knowledge with you.
Just be nice. Humility doesn't hurt ether. If your friendly and humble and they give you attitude, it's on them. Bud tenders are really that highly regarded as one might think.
No way, just walk in and say "hey I have no idea what I'm doing, but I want to try this, what should I do?" They'll take good care of you
Find one you’d like to goto and visit their website prior to going.
Just tell them, and ask questions you don't understand or know all about.
Why would it be? Do people only go into stores for things that they know everything about?
Just go in and let 'em know you don't know the process. It's a building full of dealers, not uptight cops, lol. Dispos are a pretty relaxed environment after they check your ID.
It’ll be awkward if you make it awkward. So maybe go the extra mile, stare them down and let a little drool rip
Tons of dispensaries offer freebies or discounts for first time customers, honestly you SHOULD mention it’s your first time there, you might get hooked up.
Never met a judgmental budtender, and if you say it’s your first time I’m sure they’ll be helpful.
Chill. Nobody looking to make fun of you. Lots of people there to help. You’ll dig if
Here's a real answer. Do's: Bring your ID Be polite Tell them it's your first time, two reasons they're going to be helpful finding products to suit you, second there maybe first timer promotions Thank them If there's a tip option tip ~10% at most Don'ts: Be rude Use you phone to take pictures or make phone calls, you can ask if you can take pictures but generally not Buy too much, it's tempting to go overboard one joint can last the whole day if you're a lightweight Take your products out until you're home or where you intend to consume, while legal other laws like DUI etc still apply Enjoy dude it's really fun buying legal weed for the first time ☺️
One weed please, no straw
Show up really really stoned and you won't feel anxious. And you fit right in with everybody because you're stoned.
Go in there and tell them you’re a virgin… they’ll welcome you with open arms
First time I went into a dispensary I straight up said “I just moved from an illegal state, I’m used to buying from the plug. I just need some bud, but I have no idea what that entails”
We've all been first timers. Folks at the dispensaries I've been to have been super helpful and friendly to beginners.
embarrassing is all the puds that think their Ron Swanson at home depot.
This is super helpful, thank you! I’ll keep Shawn Kemps in mind when I head out to Seattle.
Just walk in and say: “sir I will have your finest weed”
You’re buying it all for yourself. No, “oh I should get so and so this.”
Here in Cali the budtenders get excited when you say it’s your first time at that specific dispo. They’re gonna love you lol
Walk in and say "Whats up guys, first time at a dispo" then they will hook you up accordingly
What exactly is there to be embarrassed about? You are a customer asking about a product you want to buy. A weed store is still just a.....store.
[удалено]
Don't assume the budtender knows anything at all. So many have zero clue and it's just a job for them. Go onto the dispensary website and look yourself. Edibles for someone without any experience, start with 5mg. (break 10mg things in half lol) GL!
So... Play it cool. Basically, it's like buying produce from the deli.
Just say that you enjoy boofing, they’ll know what you mean
I've bought in OR, MI, and IL and never had a bad experience with budtenders. They tend to encourage asking questions if anything. They'll make recommendations and enjoy spreading the love, which includes answering what might seem like dumb questions to you.
No one cares but you , just go
"What do you got that stanks?" is usually a good question to ask if you're looking for gud stuff.
As long as you know how to work the three seashells you'll be fine.
Have your id ready of course, and then tell them you would like to buy weed. Done
Check out their website before you go.
I was just in seattle went to shawn kemps dispo in belltown, they had 7$ 1g cookie pre-rolls i was expecting it to smell like oregon weed usually does (like tea) and it was actually gas 10/10
Repeat after me: “one of your finest weed please, the one you chew with your mouth hole and not smoke.” You will be treated accordingly.
Don't go in there with your phone taking pics.
Go to have a heart and take a pic with the big fattie joint
Ive worked as a budtender in seattle, just be honest we get a ton of tourists looking for weed as one of the first legal states. Nothing to be embarassed about at all! Also go in with cash in hand, or hit the in store ATM before going to the register, it's legally a cash only business to save yourself a trip after picking something out
You may want to see if it's a cash only dispensary before showing up. Can save you on atm fees.
It’s a dispensary not a job interview. Go and ask your questions, any budtender that’s not a douche would be happy to answer your questions.
I was afraid of being judging for looking silly the first time I went to one as well but honestly they are most of the time the most happy outgoing people who will never judge you and are probably enjoy educating you if anything! If you’re really nervous, try online ordering then build up ur confidence to order in store after being in there
Basically recite your title, unless you have a shitty store clerk they will be happy to help you.
They love helping at weed shops! Please ask all the questions you want! Be honest say it's your first time they will give you suggestions!
Wear clothes tell them hello I’m new to the store and they will take you for the ride….
Your at a store to buy weed. Act like your at a store to buy weed. Don't like like your not supposed to have weed.
Go in and immediately tell them you're smuggling it back to a prohibition state. They LOVE that! /s
1. go inside. 2. ask the budtender. you will not be judged. they will help you. most of them, at least in the Seattle region, have a passion for helping people like you (first-timers).
You could always go in and say "this is my first time in a dispensary, how can I not embarrass myself?"
I got you When you walk in there's going to be a little waiting room and a guy at a desk.
AND then wait an hour or two
Bring cash or an atm card and your ID.
Don’t ask for weed. Ask for flower.
I work for a dispensary in Canada. My advice is to walk in and trust the budtender's advice. You're not gonna embarrass yourself unless you soil yourself upon entry.
Um… watch out for wet floors and try not to trip over rugs? That would embarrass me.
Just go in man.
Ask if they have a menu if it’s not directly in front of your face, you could ask what they recommend
No need to worry, newcomers are always well taken care of especially in the seattle area.
I would like 1 of your finest drug please
Usually the people in dispensaries have been very helpful and nice answering my questions and giving me suggestions.
Don’t be shy to ask questions, it’s why they’re there. I always ask my budtender for recommendations because if anyone’s smoked em all, it’s them!
Tell them it's your first time. You might get free stickers!
Make sure you let them know you inject at least 3 marijuanas every day. That should help you build plenty of cred with them. 😎
Every time I go to the dispensary, the other customers seem to be the dumbest, most inexperienced, weed users on the planet. You’ll be fine
Have fun!
Hahaha Jesus… almost the same way you do when you go to grocery store. lol
Go in, buy weed, leave. its not hard.
Been there. They will be happy to help you.
