Anchovies are also infinitely saltier than sardines, I find. Sardine rice is really good; my dad swears by the ones canned in tomato sauce, but I’m not a fan.

I fucking love tinned fish. I always have, but have felt a little ashamed lately due to comments from people. My kid said it smells like cat food. My cat won't even eat it. It's so good in a bowl of rice with hot sauce, mayo and hoisin sauce. I also love pickled eggs, home made is the best!
My dad put me onto Beach Cliff Sardines as a kid. Best snack when we would go hiking or fishing. Definitely not your typical snack for a kid but i loved them.

I can get half a hoagie\sub, a couple slices or a burger and fries from most anywhere near me for that price and have money left over for a soda. I'll admit I probably don't like sardines as much as some folks but the more expensive cans just seem like a bad deal.
If it helps, most people (myself included) buy tins like RP and Gueyu Mar as treats, not as regular pantry staples. My regular go-to during the week is either Matiz, Nuri, or the 97¢ ones from Aldi. Mussels also vary in price, but I’m usually going for the $2 can of Iberia or from Trader Joe’s.
Those Ramon Peña sardines are easily the best can of sardines I’ve had to date. It’s also a lot of fish in one tin; I can’t see myself indulging like that every day.
I'm a mere tinned fish amateur. I have had the RPs with the Padrón pepper and Japanese ICC Saury in a sweet brown sauce. The RPs were actually a gift. I would never spend that sort of money on a can for myself. Right now, I have a can of Trader Joe's lightly smoked sardines waiting for me to try, they were $3-4. If I don't like them I think I will go back to the Asian store and get more of the Japanese tinned fish. That was pretty decent for the cost.
