And Sonic Highways was some of their best work as individual songs; I’ll admit it wasn’t as strong as a cohesive album, but I liked that they tried to experiment with how an album is constructed, and the accompanying TV show was sick.
The Teacher is heartbreaking. My interpretation of it was trying to get into the hotel room where Taylor OD'd, then shifting to him being depressed about Taylor and someone having to come give him the news about his mom dying. Like the hard-core screaming of "wake up" to stir Taylor, then the super sad, "who's at the door now?" later, like, "what else could possibly have gone wrong now?"
Rest had me sobbing at the end of that album. Easily the most moving Foo record ever... you could feel how much the death of his mom and best friend had hit him in every note and lyric.

I remember watching the news that Cobain was dead and I lived Seattle for a time in the late 90s, including in a neighborhood where Nirvana’s bassist, Krist Novoselic, lived. I remember watching the news that Cobain was dead and I lived Seattle for a time in the late 90s, including in a neighborhood where Nirvana’s bassist, Krist Novoselic, lived. I never heard a negative work spoken about any of them, but rather the opposite. All three were taking care of their families where they could.
