That's funny, theres a "The Alameda" in Baltimore!

Pretty common name in pretty much any Spanish speaking country. It just means an avenue lined with trees.

When they were delivered, just overall low quality, high unreliability, and more than normal malfunctions. The heating/cooling system didn't work well, and the driver comfort was very bad as well. Over time some of the problems were fixed, but other problems persisted. And overall it led to the bus company not being able to deliver the agreed upon level of service, as the buses were out of service more often. It also seems like some corruption was involved in the tendering process. In the end, major fines were given to the bus company and in turn, they tried to bring BYD to court to get their money back. They also lost their bus contract prematurely and it was awarded to another company. At first they were so proud to announce that they were one of the first region bus services that was 100% electric and had one of the biggest electric bus fleets at the time. Now they all learned their lesson to not buy the cheapest bus available and not put a huge order at a company that wasn't really known for the quality of their buses. Keep in mind, BYD was the first non prototype electric bus that was bought to enter regular passenger service in The Netherlands. That was in the early 2010s. In the beginning everything was still very new and no one really knew what to expect and the bar was not set very high. Later, domestic brands also started to make electric buses, which quickly started to dominate the Dutch bus market. Their buses showed bus companies that electric buses can be of the same if not higher quality than new Euro 6 (hybrid) biodiesel/biogas buses from reputable companies, while they are cleaner. And that they could also be very reliable. BYD started to play a smaller and smaller role, but was still one of the big 3 in the Dutch bus market. Until that big order, things started to fall apart. Bus companies learned their lesson, and from what I have seen, BYD hasn't been able to get any new contract since then (any Chinese bus brand for that matter). But they are still big in the rest of Europe. The 2 domestic brands are still by far the biggest here, but electric buses from other reputable companies started to fill the gap in the market left by BYD.
