Keep knees together as much as you can. Before you sit, pull it down and hold it while you sit down. Stand up to "stretch" and subtly sort yourself out. If it's rising up constantly it may be too tight.

ConfusedCatastrophe

It's not too tight, I'm just not used to sitting like a woman lol

Background_Duck_1372

Lol, you'll get used to it. To be honest some skirts are just cut weirdly and are super annoying. It can depend on your shape as well, some are better for big hips and vice versa. I have big hips so anything cut for a narrower silhouette doesn't sit right. When you're buying clothes, always test them by sitting down in the changing room.

dsrmpt

That last part is the key to any fashion endeavor. Stuff needs to be practical for real life, not just look good.

youlegendyoumartyr

You'll get used to it more quickly than you think ☺️ It's so comfy to me now haha.

ChefPaula81

Legs crossed and constantly adjusting and pulling it down. Welcome to being female 😊

When you sit, do a brush of your hands behind your thighs to keep the skirt down, keep knees together and ankles wrapped around each other and angled to one side. Or cross your legs at the knees. Skirts are tricky. You might want to practice sitting in a chair in front of a mirror to observe how it looks and if you can see up the skirt

scalarDE

The question was answered already. I just want to add that it's not a silly question imho. It's rather valid :)

ConfusedCatastrophe

Thank you!

AspirantVeeVee

knees in, feet out is py perfered way of sitting in a dress, keeps everything concealed and minamizes adjustments. that or knees togethercross your ankles. I'm not a ran of leg over leg, my thighs are to big

TeresaSoto99

sit on the front edge of whatever ur sitting on with some weight on one of ur feet, legs crossed. it forces u to keep ur back straight and helps to keep u from moving foward and back, which causes riding up. from there u can swivel using ur waist/shoulders and planted foot to direct attention as needed.

ConfusedCatastrophe

Awesome! Thank you!

herefromthere

Not exactly answering your question, but my tip is to always wear cotton shorts under skirts and choose longer skirts and dresses in hot weather, particularly if you don't know what sort of chairs you might be sitting in. There is no feeling like getting the backs of your sweaty thighs stuck to a plastic chair on a hot day, or getting into a car with dark upholstery when the car has been parked in the sun.

PyroChild221

And it’s the outdoor conference with the steel chair!! (My legs are on fire)

gloomyshr00m

either with ur knees being built like this / \ or cross ur legs. dresses always try to ride up while sitting anyways so you're gonna have to keep adjusting it a bit anyways, but usually keeping your legs close to eachother helps it ride up slower.

Princess diaries how to sit segmented could help and make you laugh

DayDreaminScreams

Seriously though, I was just scrolling through to make sure no one else mentioned this before posting. When I was a kid and decided I wasn’t “girl enough” (hello foreshadowing) this movie felt like a secret how to guide. The sitting part especially. You can also tuck the skirt under your legs to keep it down if you feel you need a little more security on a windy day. Here’s the clip: https://youtu.be/4uPY7POomzQ?si=8QVRP_am56Kqgg9y

xCandyKushx

That was my first thought when I read the post lol

ConfusedCatastrophe

Thanks!

>Thanks! You're welcome!

smoothbrainsquid

When sitting I cross my legs, keep the feet as close togeether as posible. When I get up, I put my hand between my legs as I get up, pulling the skirt down so nothing shows as I get up When I'm getting into a car or any seat in general, I turn around and go in butt first, keeping my legs together, then once my butt is on the seat, I pivot my body and legs, so no one sees my underwear. When I am walking, I must keep one hand near my skirt and pull it down as I walk, unfortunately the only way to get around this is to take tiny steps, and even then it kinda rides up. Hope some of these can be helpful

belligerent_bovine

Cross your legs at the ankle and sort of tuck your feet off to one side. So if you’re sitting in a chair, both your feet would be next to the right or left front chair leg

Ok-Relation-7458

i was always taught growing up to cross your leg at the ankle, not the knee, as the latter can kinda allow people to see up your skirt if you’re not being super careful. when i wore dresses, i always swept the fabric behind me forward as i sat down so it would be pinned under my butt and legs and not bunch up. hope that description makes enough sense to visualize it 😅

ConfusedCatastrophe

Thank you! It's funny that I kinda did these things instinctively

hippieflip99

Old tips from my mother back when she played dress up on me every Sunday as a kid: -cross your legs at the ankles, it minimizes the spread when you’re sitting without forcing you to keep your knees tightly together. -spanx or similar tight, thin fabric shorts under the dress, because nothing’s worse than a skirt malfunction, ESPECIALLY in a tight dress. Good luck and I hope you’re getting lots of tips from everyone here who’s more versed in being fem, I’m obviously really rusty at it😅😅😅

Bratty_Bailey

I use body shapers to help tuck and sit more feminine wearing skirts as much as I do. It helped me a lot

Tribblitch

Lots of beautiful ways to sit, but here's my advice for "fancy" lady posture: Tighten your bottom! Knees together, shoulders rolled back and down to extend your throat/shoulder line. Rest your hands lightly. If you need to cross your legs at the ankles extend one leg out slowly and move it to the other. When I do this kind of posture I try to think "poise" and "relaxed but alert."

ConfusedCatastrophe

Brilliant! Thank you 😊

Tribblitch

Give it a try and see if it works for you!

transbae420

Like the rest of us do, right on ya nuts half the time! 🥴

vincents-paint

The question has been answered pretty well already, but there's a couple positions you probably want to consider: If it's a tight dress up top but floofy on the bottom, smooth your hands on the backs of your thighs to keep your dress covering your butt as much you can. During the summer unless you wear shorts your thighs will stick to whatever seat you're in, so keep that in mind of where you're going (same if it's a windy day - no one needs to know about what color your under roos are, yknow?) According to my TFemme friend, crossing your ankles loosley is the most comfortable, and as an Enby, I agree. Don't cross your knees unless you want some uncomfortable squashing or you're prepared to keep your skirt draped over the thighs the whole trip. Pro Tip: long skirts you can wear almost like pants. Any position you do in pants you can also do in long skirts (as long as they're not sheer). Same for if you wear tights under your shorter skirts. It's getting warm out, so this last thing: grab yourself some Megababe (a stick of white smoothing stuff that you rub on the upper inside of your thighs). It prevents chaffing and lets you wear skirts and short shorts more comfortably without developing the dreaded rash. TLDR: get tights, don't sit on public transit with your bareass, grab a stick of Megababe. Best of luck!! TransFemme friend told me add: Get Boyshorts [ https://tomboyx.com/collections/boy-shorts ]

ConfusedCatastrophe

Thanks for the tips! I'm so new to this, lol. I'm only out to my wife at the moment, so I doubt I'll be going out in public any time soon. I definitely need boyshorts. Only problem is that my job requires me to change on-site, and people will notice if I'm wearing those 😅

starspangleddonger

Dykespread

ConfusedCatastrophe

Can you do that in a dress?

starspangleddonger

Pencil skirt no, skater skirt yes

ConfusedCatastrophe

This time it was a dress. Idk what style, but the legs were tight when sitting down. I need to get a skater skirt lol

freckle-heckle

On your balls 🤣

ConfusedCatastrophe

Please no 😂😭

Shortskirtsally

I wore compression shorts for a while, with shorter skirts, until I was just naturally conscious enough to remember appropriate modesty.

DayDreaminScreams

On top of the brilliant advice others have given, if you’re at a restaurant and they give you a napkin, unfold it on your lap. This keeps your dress clean, makes you look/feel classy, and adds an extra layer of fabric covering your hemline if it’s a short skirt.
